Reviews for Our Winter

This is by far one of the best stories I've read on this site. But even more than that, I've never read a story that so perfectly captures what it feels like to lose the greatest, purest love you'll ever have.

"But do you know what I've found doesn't pass? Love. It fades; it changes, flows and ebbs. It knocks you on your arse, rips out your heart, makes you bleed, and compels you to come back for more, but it doesn't pass. Not with time, not with distraction, and certainly not because someone has hurt you more than you can bear. Love, real love, digs in and hangs on long after you wish to be finished with it. And it hurts, God, how it hurts.

But the flip of it is, locked inside my heart lays the memory of something special and precious. I remember what it felt like to be loved. Not fancied, or the object of someone's passing obsession, but loved with someone's whole heart. Maybe it's not a happy ending, but that's the point: It's not an ending at all. Some things are just too great, too much to ever end."

"I'll wonder where he is, and if he's allowed himself to be happy. I'll hope he remembers our secret winter together as clearly as I do, that he treasures it as I do. For a moment, I'll long for him so much that my chest literally aches with it. And then I'll take a breath until the ache passes, as old aches always do, and tuck him back into my heart where he belongs, where he'll fade and change, grow and ebb, but never, never pass away."

I had to stop reading for awhile after these passages to compose myself. It's clear you've lived what you've written, because I cant imagine someone being able to so beautifully convey that mix of gratitude for having felt that rare kind of love, and eternal pain at having lost it, unless they've lived it. Thank you for writing this story, it's beautiful and so painfully relatable.

A well-told story, using what at first seemed like a silly device to delve into a full plot with an excellent ending.

Wow, that was one of the most amazing stories I have read, and I have read quite a lot. You did a wonderful job on this story. I laughed, I cried, and I ached for all of those involved. This was so sweet and endearing. I hope JKR can live up to this story. Thank you for all the hard work I know you must have put into this story.

in general, i LOVE your fic. absolutely beautiful. but i just have to gush about this bc it made me melt into a little pile of contented goo...

"Gin," he called out, and she turned to face him, a few feet away. "What exactly did you see in the forest?"

"A glimpse into the future," she answered after a moment's pause. "A glimpse into my heart -- what I hope, and what I fear, and what's inevitable, no matter how hard I fight against it." Another pause, and she debated whether to ask him or not. Before, it had seemed to her that he'd been trying to avoid telling her. Nothing gambled, nothing gained . . . "What about you? What did you see, Draco?"

His face contorted from one inscrutable expression to another, and he seemed to be conducting a silent argument with himself over what, exactly, he was supposed to say. Finally, he smiled a funny, ironic little smile, and said ruefully:

    "I saw you."

ooo!!! lovely, eloquent, perfect, wonderful, beautiful... the adjectives keep coming

That was the most...oh my...*sniff*. That...all of it...was absolutely beautiful. And if I could only come up with the words to describe it properly, rest assured, I would use them.

You are going to write more stories, right? Do say you are...

Wow. I've read good stories, great stories, even excellent stories, stories that have made me laugh, cry, and have touched my heart in unspeakable ways. But nothing, absolutely NOTHING got under my skin like this story did. The characters and emotions were so real. I felt myself feeling sympathy and anguish for Draco and Ginny's forbidden love. Truly a Romeo-and-Juliet-esque story. Of course I cried, I was crying throughout the entire story. For the first time, I felt I could truly relate to the characters and their situation (I myself have never had a situation like this, but I know what it feels like when you can't be with the one you love). People say unrequited love is the worst thing ever, but I don't believe that. To have reciprocated love and be unable to truly embrace it is worse than love unreturned (ugh, I sound like a wannabe Shakesperean poet there).

The condom/banana chapter was wonderfully y. y. You are one of the few authors that know where humor is appropriate and does not detract from the overall story. The same goes for the sex scences, which served to only add to the angf thf the story by emphasizing the ever-growing love between Ginny and Draco.

I don't really know what else to sor tor this review. What can I say about a story that's made me laugh, cry, and given me chills all at the same time? Ack, this is why I never review stories anymore!!! I guess all I can really say is if all of your stories are like this, you will have a lot more compliments coming your way. :)

Your ever-loving, touched, and truly inspired fan (I'm not sucking up, I swear!)
    Katie
