good story...I have seen this dish cooked in a cooking show and they said that it was a dish made by women cheating on their husbands as a way to fool them into thinking that they had spent the whole afternoon cooking an elaborate dish instead of having a clandestine affair.

Brazil has another legend for puttanesca sauce. The legend says this sauce was created by cheap restaurants who worked until late, the restaurants the "putas" - prostitutes - would go for eating after a night of working, The sauce was made f rests of others sauces, and puttanesca means something like "a la puta's fashion", they would enter in the 'almost closing' restaurant and ask for pasta, if they (restaurant) had no sauce left the prostitutes uded to say: "put everything that's left".
