Been on pins and needles waiting, thanks for the update! Can't decide which character you write best for, you have certainly captured a distinctive voice for each. Can't wait to see what happens next! Which one will make the first move to have her all to himself? What will the reactions be when they realize she is manipulating both of them? This is really well done, 50 house points for you!

YES!! I have been absolutely dying to find an update from you and since ff.net has been down since 06/09, I decided to try here in the vain hope that you posted on more than one site. It made my day to have my assumption confirmed.

Another brilliant chapter. Your journey into the minds of these three people has been positively riveting, and Plaything has become my favorite SS/HG fic. You exceeded my expectations (and my bar is quite high concerning this fic) with the Hermione POV. She is admirable in her will and sheer determination to not let anything stop her from surviving. I like how you brought her memories, observations and logic sequence around full-circle. She now has a firm grasp on exactly what power is. Way to go 'Mione!

I like how she reveals her thoughts concerning Snape and Lucius. She is no more 'in love' with them then they are with her. And her grasp of the idea that rape goes far beyond the physical is true to life and a credit to your attention to emotional detail.

While I have been enthralled with this fic since it was first published, I feel that your readers will now be put on a rollercoaster ride for the remainder of this story.

I hope you don't mind that I have recommended your fic on a new Yahoo group called HP Recommendations. You are immensely talented and deserve to get boatloads of appreciative reviews.

Once ff.net comes out of its coma, I will probably continue reviewing on that site. However, now that I know you are uploading on this one as well, I will check here for updates. Most definitely looking forward to your next installment.

I've always had quite a penchant for BDSM and Snape/Hermione, although together, it just didn't seem plausible (or I didn't want to make it plausible in my head). But the moment I read this fic, I enjoyed it immensely. With Lucius thrown in, it's just brilliant. The powerplay is seductive, as well as the stark differences between Lucius and Severus' treatment of Hermione. And plus, I've always enjoyed the idea of the slave and the master switching roles in the emotional sense (although not necessarily the physical, though that's fantastic too). Keep up the good work. :)

This is just fantastic! I really love the first-person narrational approach you use, since ites tes the reader more able to interact directly with the characters' personas/feelings. And that last chapter was superb--you've really found Hermione's voice--a complex mixture of bed slave and head girl, and then some. I'm looking forward to see her use her powers!!! Can't wait til the next part.....

Woot! *does a little dance* I've been having spasms because aff.net was down and I couldn't get my Plaything fix! This and Awaken Me by Moonstruck are the two stories I follow where I feel absolutely no shame in stalking the authours for the next update. heh. *Unfortunately, I believe that Moonstruck is quite fucked off with me atm due to excessive stalking. However, chapter 8 is on the way because of my dilligence. Woot!*

Yes, we're old friends now. heh *huggles* I do agree with you about Severus and Lucius *this is your story, after all* Severus does tend to be in denial a bit where Hermione is concerned. And he'll surely be a bit smug. *rubs hands evilly* And I suppose that Lucius is a realist just as much as Hermione is. I do believe that Hermione may change her opinions of Lucius once she figures out what his true motivations were when he strangled her *perhaps a comment from Severus where he tries to show her that Lucius is pure evil, but it doesn't have the effect he wanted. Or even just the'se's never known Lucius to strike his son before. You know, something to get her mind spinning?*. She won't love Lucius madly, I don't think, but I can easily see her twisting it to her advantage and exploiting his fluctuating emotions even more than she already is. Lucius and Hermione are both very logical creatures and compliment each other well. The mind games will be interesting to see. Lucius will surely notice that she's playing them off against each other eventually, I'm sure. However, I think that it may take a bit longer for Severus to grasp it. Then again, epiphanies are known to happen. The true fun will be when Lucius realises what she's doing and retaliates. Ah, the twisted games they'll play! Mutual respect could easily grow from that sort of thing.

And in this chapter, your comment about love and what it truly means: was this a hint in one direction or another? So many ways this story can go. I do think that it would be interesting if Hermione came back to Severus with a huge, shit-eating grin on her face *forced or not*. And perhaps he sees her actually *standing* beside Lucius when they Apparate into his home? That would make for interesting twists and it would show Severus that Lucius is far kinder to Hermione than would be expected. Then again, I quite like for Severus to be in the dark about it all. As much as I want Lucius to have sole possession of Hermione for my own, quite obvious, reasons, I don't think that the story would be half as interesting. *btw, it would be amusing as hell if Hermione portkeyed back to Severus during sex with Lucius because he was a bit too rough with her or was in the middle of playing one of his sex games*

    *re-reading bits*

Actually, I take back the part about Hermione pretending that she's happy with Lucius in front of Severus. She'd likely want to squeeze every last drop of pity from the man so that he wouldn't touch her before she starts showing favouritism toward Lucius in front of him. The easiest way would probably be through the physical because Severus is quite insecure about his body and she knows it. I think though that once Hermione realises that her chance of long-term survival is almost nil *re: Harry and Voldie*, she'll up the stakes and attempt to make one or both fall in love with her so that they wouldn't bear part with her. So that they value her above their Dark Lord. Of the two, Severus is more likely to give her over, I think. He's a survivor and he's not stupid. If he could give up Dumbledore and all the rest, then he would easily hand Hermione back to Voldemort without a twitch and be thankful that it's her life and not his. Lucius though, now he's more interesting in this situation. Lucius is quite vain and proud, so I can see him being confident enough to think that he could challenge Voldemort and live because he's 'favoured'. Or daring enough to attempt to weasel out permission to keep her after they've done what they will with her. If Hermione is pregnant, he could plead her belly. If it's his child, it would probably be a 'this is my child that I put into your service, blah blah blah'. But if it's Severus'... heh, well, I can easily see Lucius saying that Voldemort could use that child in some odd ritual or something. *An interesting scientific note that may help you out if she is indeed pregnant: When a woman sleeps with more than one man, the one most likely to get her pregnant is the one who has the strongest feelings for the woman. That man's sperm will actually link tails and form a shield around the egg to avoid foreign 'invaders'. Honest to god, it's true. They actually have sperm wars in there if the chick's been messing around. Quite disgusting, actually. It all has to do with dopamine and seratonin levels and how much of those chemicals his brain releases when he ejaculates. 'Love' and possession are purely chemical reactions, after all.*

*cracks neck and back* Right, I think I've gone on long enough tonight. I'm looking foreard to the next chapter. If I'm lucky, it may be up at your group already. *don't I wish*.

    Cheers,
Sing (who's prancing off happily to join another damn yahoogroup)

Wait a bloody second here... You updated this on the 1st?? I'm confused. I check here every bloody day, but I didn't see the update until today. *ponders* Something's screwy here. Well, if you really *did* update on the 1st, then that means that a new chapter is just that much closer, right? heh Ack. This place needs update notification.

Yes! Thank you *so* much. You've made my night. *does a little dance, which is completely lacking in rhythm, but more than made up for with enthusiasm* God, you're bloody killing me here. I check for more of this story at least twice daily and it drives me mad! Ack. I know that you can't help it, you write when you can. But ugh, the suspense kills me. You have the character psychology down pat and I believe that we just reached the 'turning point' in this story. *rubs hands evilly* I was fairly surprised that Lucius outright admitted to himself that Hermione had wormed her way into his heart. On the other side, you have Severus, who just feels guilty because he was once her teacher and he helped to destroy her future. So far, I don't see any 'love-type' feelings on his part; only a dual sense of guilt and ownership. On to the rest, let me think... *thinking* Lucius giving Hermione a present from his own sense of guilt was *so* very accurate. Abusers often do that so the psychology was well played there. But the choice of present! Ah, that was brilliant. Lucius gave her clothes. I think that, more than anything, won Hermione's forgiveness *at least partially* Lucius is a clever devil. After giving her a robe, he takes her to his library. This is another example of the difference between Lucius and Severus. I remember a few chapters back that Severus wouldn't allow her to help him with potion making. In fact, he's acted as if she were a child with no brain of her own several times, even though he knows that that is far from the case. Believe it or not, I get a strong 'father' type vibe from him. He treats her much as if she were his child. In a very, very twisted way, of course. heh.

    *thinking*

I'm surprised that Severus didn't put two and two together once Hermione told him what Lucius did to Draco. Surely he knows Lucius well enough to realise that the man would never strike his son; especially not over a slave. If Severus does eventually realise this, he can certainly use it to his advantage. At the moment, Severus is smug in the knowledge that he has Hermione's favour. The only way that he may not figure it out, I think, is if Lucius forbids Hermione to speak of the presents he's given her or to speak of their time together, period. Lucius is not a stupid man. He has already admitted that he's fond of the girl and he knows that Severus will cotton on eventually. That would be the only way to prevent it, really. But when Severus finds out... *evil grin* what power he will hold.

    *re-reading bits*

I also find it fascinating that Hermione echoes Lucius' thoughts that she would be better off dead. Free from pain, etc. It has a nice effect and is almost like you're saying that they are mentally similar. At least, it's another line that makes one see the connection. Oh, and Lucius alluding to Draco and necrophilia... ick. heh. Just another thing to show how warped Draco really is. lol. Damn, I hate prepositions... *shrugs* Lucius planning to bury Hermione in the family plot speaks volumes to mt'st's as if he sees her as an equal, which I'm sure frightens him to no end. I wonder what will happen when Lucius actually allows himself to indulge in his 'tender' feelings. *muses* Also whilst reading, I notice that Severus insists that Hermione ask for things from him so he can use that against her. Lucius tends to offer her things that he knows she wants, so she doesn't really have ask him for anything. Intentional difference? It's also interesting to see that Hermione refuses to sit with Lucius on the sofa. More than likely, she's remembering Severus' 'do something for me and I'll do something for you' policy.

    So in conclusion:

Lucius now plays the part of the star-struck, guilty wooer; eager to please Hermione and sees her partially as his equal. *at least mentally*
Severus is smug because he's sure that Hermione will never prefer Lucius over him.
Draco is gone. Hip hip hooray! *throws confetti* Normally, I'm quite fond of Draco's character. I could almost say that he's my favourite character and I'm told that I write him well *as one of my reviewers said: a one-dimensional prick like in canon, but one of Shrek's 'onions with layers' at the same time. heh. Probably my favourite review. lol* In this story, Draco is even darker and more demented than his father. This is a refreshing change of pace. Lucius actually has some bloody feelings whilst his offspring is simply a cold-blooded monster. Lovely switch and counter-point, very original.
Now, you do realise that you're priviledged, right? The only other person whom I spend *this* much time reviewing for is Cathy *or Anise, whatever. She writes Jewel of the Harem, if you've heard of it.* But I enjoy reviewing your work. I find nothing stylistically wrong with it; the sex is bloody sizzling; and the psychology is absolutely fascinating. Lengthy reviews will doubtless make you feel all tingly inside and itching to write some more. *smiles evilly* so I can't say that this is all innocence on my part. It's one of Severus' tricks. heh. *blinks* Oh all right! So I lied. I'm actually doing this because I love the story. heh. Just the last thought occured to me, and well... Buggery. I'm tired. Happy writing!

    Cheers,
    Sing
