“I came back,” replied Ginny, “I had no choice. I left something here.”
“What did you forget?” asked Remus quietly.
“My heart,” she whispered. “I didn’t forget it, though, I just left it here.”

    Harry wants insta-wife-and-mother. I can’t be that.

“Bossy as usual,” remarked Severus. “See what happens after marriage?”
“Hermione was like that BEFORE you married her, Severus.”
"Thank you, Remus,” huffed Hermione, “I think.”

“I’m glad,” smiled Hermione. “I hope he someday finds what he’s looking for.”
“As long as it’s not with my spouse, I’m fine with that,” retorted Severus, wrapping a possessive arm around Hermione.

"I made the right choice, didn’t I, Hermione?”
“You’re asking the woman who shocked the wizarding world by leaving the Boy Who Lived in order to marry the Great Greasy Bat of the Dungeons?”

“Ginny,” she began, “you loved Harry once. But you loved him as a child, as an adolescent. What was charming when you were sixteen is not charming when you’re twenty-six. The things that drew you to Harry then are the very things that drove you apart from him the second time around. "

“Percy,” she whispered, tears now streaming down her face, “you came.”
Percy returned her embrace. “I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.”

Hermione followed suit with the other ring, watching as Ginny slipped the silver band onto Remus’ finger.
“Stop holding your breath, Hermione,” whispered Remus, “I’m not a werewolf anymore. See?” he said, holding up his hand, “No damage, no screaming.”

“She could be right for him…” said Ginny.
    “Yes, she could,” agreed Hermione.
“I bloody well hope so,” grumbled Severus, “I’m sick and tired of the Boy Who Lived Only to Mope and Winge…”

(You know, one thing I never quite understood... it seemed Hermione put her Potions career on par for a while. For Mediwizardry? I presume she wanted the exposure to Medicine to help her Potions career - so isn't she going to go back to it? There are lots more things that need to be discoverd in that regard...)

You did well with the Hermione-Ginny contest.

"I have a proposition for you. Lemon drop?”
Ginny shook her head, trying to follow the headmaster. Was he proposing a lemon drop for her? What was that? Was it some kind of euphemism?

Finally. She, little Ginevra Molly Weasley, was picked first for something. She would be the head mediwitch at Hogwarts. After all these years, she came first!... She’d actually beaten Hermione at something.
At that thought, her face fell. Ginny had never realized that she was in competition with Hermione.

“You’re not… angry that Albus selected me?”
“Of course not!” said Hermione. “Why on earth would I be angry? You went to school and apprenticed and everything to become a mediwitch. I studied potions and decided that mediwizardry would help with my research and give me a steady position near Severus where I could also work on my research.

"I honestly don’t know, Hermione. What would you do?”
“Not a fair question. What I want and what you want are two very different things. I left Harry, remember.”

"Ginny, I wasn’t sure how to tell you this. I’ve made mistakes where you were concerned. I didn’t trust you to have grown up. The fact is, you did. You just did it when I wasn’t looking. Now that I’ve realized that...

“And I’m not ‘brilliant’? I’m meant to give up my career and have children? Am I a brood mare?”

“Are you done putting your foot in your mouth, Harry?” asked Ginny calmly. “I believe Severus might have a potion to take care of that if you need some assistance.”

Drawing a deep breath, she walked up the path to her destiny.

“We had a lovely date,” agreed Ginny, “but I wasn’t aware that a date equaled commitment.”
“I thought I meant more than that.”
“Harry,” said Ginny gently, “I’m a single woman trying to figure out what I want for my life. I told you that. I don’t know if I’m ready for a relationship that is so possessive.”

Remus left the castle, well aware of the glare leveled at him by Harry. As he walked down the front steps of the castle, he grinned to himself. Snape was right. All Remus had to do was be himself and be a gentleman.

Ginny watched him, her eyes glittering with anger.
How DARE he act like he owned her?

(Your Ginny beats Jo's hands down)

She liked the flowers from Harry, but the single rose from the Hogwarts garden was more her style

Ginny used to think she wanted the fancy trappings, but she was quickly discovering that it was the simple things that really mattered to her. Harry may be fantastically wealthy and his life may be exciting, but when it came down to it, Ginny was a simple girl from the Burrow.

    “You seem at peace.”
“I think I am,” he admitted, “and it’s been a long time coming. I think I’ve finally realized that I can’t change anything that happened in the past. I can’t change having been a werewolf. I can’t change Peter Pettigrew betraying James and Lily. I can’t change what happened in battle. I can only move forward, atone where I must and forgive where I can.”

“I was contemplating possibly purchasing the place with my reparation money,” said Remus, “I could fix it up and maybe turn it into a hotel or something…”
Ginny turned to look at the old house, mentally stripping away the decades of disrepair. In her mind, she saw a regal home, three stories of classic beauty, the color of the snow lilies, with a wrap around porch, “It should be yellow,” she commented.
“I’ll need a great deal of help with the renovations if I’m to do this,” remarked Remus.
Ginny imagined the wrap around porch with two comfortable rocking chairs.

“Yes, he went out with Remus. That never bodes well. I swear, even though they seem to have buried the past, I still think they’re trying to damage each other. Last month they got drunk and Remus ended up tied up in the Shrieking Shack wearing Madame Rosemerta’s bra on his head…”
    “Her BRA?”
    “Don’t ask. I didn’t."

“You don’t aspire to a career after marriage?” asked Hermione.
“I’m a mediwitch assistant, Hermione,” replied Kyla, “I get the worst shifts, the lowest pay, and I really don’t wish to attend any more training. I’ve never had aspirations. To be honest, I took the position at St Mungo’s to meet a mediwizard, and came here because the pay was better. Well, I need to get some rest. Have a wonderful day, ladies,” said Kyla, grabbing a triangle of toast and heading to her quarters.

(a perfect way to set up harry/kyla)

“Good morning,” grunted Severus, “Tea, earl grey, hot.”
“Aye, Captain Picard,” quipped Hermione, pouring him a cup of tea,

“What I wouldn’t give for a wife like you, Hermione,” said Remus, “someone to calm my pounding head and aching muscles with a well brewed potion.”
“Be careful what you wish for,” grumbled Severus, “she hid all the hangover potion in our quarters and blackmailed me into taking her to the theatre next weekend. She’s a she-devil, this one.”

Throwing caution to the wind, Remus handed it to Ginny, “It’s for you. It reminded me of you and I knew you had to have it.”
Ginny put down the bouquet of flowers from Harry and took the rose, marveling at the sweet scent and the brilliant color, “Thank you so much,” she said, burying her nose in its fragrance, “it’s perfectly lovely.”

Ginny smiled and nodded, heading for her quarters, not noticing that she left behind the gifts from Harry.

‘Just once,’ thought Ginny, ‘I would like to be the best choice for something.’

He wished he were the one escorting her this night. He wished he hadn’t treated her like a child following their only date. He wished he could have opened his eyes and seen her as she was, a beautiful, confident, intelligent woman. And now…now it might be too late. Damn Harry Potter. Remus could not remember ever having bitter feelings towards Harry, but tonight, the bitterness was out in full force.

And you would want to win her over based on deceit? That is so unlike you,” said Severus, sipping his drink.
“Yes, but it’s not unlike you. So, help me here.”
“You think I ‘won’ Hermione through deceit and trickery?”
    “Didn’t you?”
Severus again snorted, “Good gods, no. Hermione is far too brilliant to be fooled by anything underhanded. And so is Ginevra.”

“If you win by lies and games, you ultimately lose. The lady WILL find out, and the lady WILL leave you. You need to fight the good fight, fight with honor. Remus, what is the first thing you need to know about your opposition in battle?”
    “His weakness.”

“And you dislike Harry enough to help me win another woman from him?”
“No. I just like Ginevra too much to let him subjugate her like he nearly did to Hermione.”

"Molly’s a good woman and Gin’s like her in a lot of ways, but she’s not a Molly clone.”
“Exactly,” said Severus, “I wonder if we could bump off Arthur and get Harry and Molly together. She’s fertile enough for young Potter.”

(lol - that is definitely the best line of the fic!)

“You are such a prat, Snape,” retorted Remus, “I should have eaten you back in school.”
“One more thing for you to hate Potter over, his damned father prevented that from happening.”
“You just would have given me indigestion anyway.”
    “More than likely.”

And you couldn’t plot your way out of an empty flat in London.”

You keep her on her toes with little things. If Potter sends her a dozen roses, you hand her a single perfect stem. If he takes her to a fancy dinner in the best restaurant in Paris, you invite her on a picnic. You KNOW Ginny, Remus. Potter doesn’t. Not anymore. He will try to court her favor with the best of the best. You will court her with the things you know she will like.

    (wow - great advice!)

    “Hey Sev?”
    “What?”
    “How’d you get so smart?”
    “I married into it.”

Neville was sweet and gentle, and was Ginny’s first date, when they went to the Yule Ball together. She often wondered about him, what would have happened had they decided to date instead of being “just friends”? Ginny sighed. She hated “just friends”. That was what Remus wanted. Was that was she did to Neville? Did he feel like she punched him the stomach when she began seeing Michael Corner?

    (hear hear... poor Nev)

“Ginny always thinks about others. Ginny is just like her mum. Ginny is such a damnable good girl. Well, I’m sick of it, Hermione. I’m sick of always worrying about what will make other people happy. When is it my turn?”

"And when you add Remus to the equation…”
Ginny shook her head, “Remus is a null factor.”
“And null factors can be dangerous in Arithmancy. The unknown quantity has a tendency to throw off the whole equation.”

"I know you want to keep first years because that’s where you make your early assumptions about who is a dunderhead and who is worth your loving contempt…”
    “I’ll ignore the contempt comment.”
“Why,” asked Hermione, slyly, “it’s true.”

“I’ll be going out tonight for a bit,” he replied, attempting to gauge her reaction, “with Lupin.”
“Socially?” asked Hermione, her voice registering a bit of incredulity, “I don’t want to discover him tied up in the Shrieking Shack again.”
“That WAS a social outing,” argued Severus, “well, at least it began that way. Too much Ogden’s is never a good thing.

    (lol)

But he brushed her aside when he was unable to reconcile the beautiful 26-year-old mediwitch intern with the slightly awkward 16-year-old girl she had been before he was kidnapped. That was a mistake, he realized. A terrible mistake.

The potions master glared at Remus, then, noticing his glare had no effect, sighed in resignation

“Bloody hell…fine. What do you need from me?”
“I need to win over Ginny.”
    “Just talk to her.”
    “I have a rival.”
    "Just talk to her,” .
    “It’s Harry Potter.”
“Tomorrow night, 8 o’clock, the Hogs Head,”

Hi there. Just wondering if you considered posting '10 years after' in the Snape/Hermione section instead of the General section? It's such a great story and I never would have read it if I hadn't stumbled across it by accident. I now look forward to reading the sequels.

Oops. I thought at the end of the previous fic that H/G was next. But it looks like Harry's going to get the short end of the stick again. I get the feeling u don't really like him:)
And Snape has apparently not lost any of his hatred towards the boy, even after he got Hermione.
Remus, willingly hurting harry. It is kind of OOC since I expect him to take Sirius' place as a surrogate father in HBP. Still its your story. Continue.
