Hey hey! Shamefacedly, I admit, although I read A LOT of fics from AFF.net, as well as other sites, I do not often review. I generally just enjoy the story and go, despite all the sometimes creative and humorous pleas for feedback. I wish I could say that I leave my five star rating and go - but, sadly, I usually don't even do that. Like the vixen slipping out of bed after the guy whose name she still does not know falls asleep, I "back button" away feeling simultaneously satisfied and hungry for more. (*Takes a deep breath, stands up, and announces to the room in general, and to the fiance specifically*) "I have a problem: I am a fan fiction slut." I apologize to you for not telling you before now how much I've enjoyed reading your story, for not saying how utterly fascinating I think *this* Harry Potter is, for not admitting that I look forward to each and every update and, sadly, cry myself to sleep (metaphorically) upon learning that the update is a short chapter or not an update at all - just an author's note.
I read the author's notes, mind you, and the introductions and the thank yous to all the reviewers who are NOT ME. And these are typically the only thing that incur reviewing on my part. Now, again, I find myself spurred into typing my inconsequential thoughts as a result of something going on outside of a story. I should probably state (and this is absolutely not meant to upset or offend ANY of your past or future reviewers - except one) that I have intentionally tried to use proper punctuation, capitalization, and spelling to show that I am, indeed, educated (again this is not meant as an insult, as I know that reviews are often very informal), and capable of spotting a good story based on these qualities alone. Egotistically enough, I also highly value my own opinions in selecting talented authors. The book buying company for which I work agrees with me regarding this last statement.
When "Me" -and let me just say that only a coward would give such a dismal and pretentious review then not leave a name to back up his/her own opinions - reviewed your story, and tried, vainly, I think, to sound like he/she was giving an intelligent and organized point-by-point breakdown of the reasons that he or she did NOT like your story, it rather irritated me. Valid responses to "Me" deserve to be repeated here: This person did not have to read all 60 chapters of your story.
AFF.net is a site that welcomes all fan fiction, regardless of content. You warned readers that Close Enough was relatively smut-free - a long romance story.
To "Me:" The rest of this review is for you.
This is important, so pay attention here, because it directly refutes the majority of your points (e.g. Ron and Hermione being out of character, and Hermione's middle name) Fan fiction, by it's very definition, is NOT Canon. This may be a terrible leap for you, but fan fiction is fiction that is written by fans and is about an existing story and/or world. The author of any story is within his/her rights to take liberties with the storyline or characters. This should, in fact, be encouraged because it shows (*gasp*) creativity. If you want Canon, J.K. Rowling's already done that. Read her work. If, like me, you've already read it, read it again. If she doesn't update fast enough for you... well, J.K.'s talented enough and rich enough to get away with that. Have you sent her any hate mail lately?
Alright, yes, I cringed inwardly everytime I read the word Hogsmead... but there is a multitude of other stories on this site in which the English grammar is nearly unrecognizable, where everything is spelled wrong - from the "e" added to "Slytherine" to "Dumbledoor." Comparatively speaking, Close Enough is a godsend in the grammar department.
Despite my bad reviewing record, I know how much influence someone's words can have on a story. Therefore, it saddens me when, in a world that is ruled more and more by the half hour time schedule of sitcoms and "reality tv," someone gives such a pointlessly asinine review that would potentially dishearten a writer when the world is already short on good contemporary writers and good contemporary stories.
Incidentally, I've read Beren's work and maybe I didn't notice whatever evidence you have of Beren's femininity, but I had always assumed from the origin of the name Beren that the very talented author of Gold Tinted Spectacles was a man. Of course, I don't have to tell YOU that Beren was the name of the human man in the romantic story of Beren and the immortal Elf princess Luthien, who overcame all obstacles to be together, albeit at a cost.
You said something that caught my attention in your second post. I believe the line was, "Some how I missed the last couple of posted chapters..." Well, it's obvious to me that you missed a lot more than that. You missed the opportunity to enjoy a good story for what it is because you were too busy comparing it to what you thought it should be. I hope it's not presumptious of me to claim that I think I speak for all of us when I say that you are no longer welcome here. And any future pessimistic posts you make in regards to this story will be thoroughly ignored by myself at least, since you've proven that you're not really worth it.
Okay "Me," you can stop reading now. The rest of this post has absolutely nothing to do with you.
Myniephoenix, I apologize again for not telling you until now how much I enjoy your story. I love creature fics in general because they are the perfect excuse to bring together two obviously unlikely people like Harry and Draco. I also enjoy the fact that you did not make your story about smut. There is absolutely nothing wrong with smut or with H/D smut, but it is rampant out there, so if I want smut I know where to get it, and if I want substance I come to you. I can't wait until you post again. I love that your story is so long, but it feels to be winding down, and I'm going to hate to see it finished because I'll no longer have your updates to which I can look forward. Promise that you'll keep writing; I think I've read that this is your first fic, and I can't wait to see how your noticeable talent progresses. I'm not going to offer any advice about what I think should happen, because it's your story and I know that if I want a story to go a certain way then I am perfectly free to write it myself. And as far as your reaction to "Me" is concerned, let me just say "Bravo!" Too many writers let bad reviews get to them, but your response was strong, self-assured, and expressed a few choice words that we all wanted to say to this particular reviewer.
Thank you for the sheer entertainment value of your time and effort. I'm going to go out on a limb and click that "review" button now.
    The End.

Some people are just horrible with they way they review. If they read over 60 chappies and they didn't like it why didn't they stop? that tell me the that reviewer is STUPID. I have seen other stories reviewed by someone that uses that same name and all they do is b*tch and moan about the story and pick it apart. This is FANFIC. If that person wanted you to follow the books so closely why don't they just read the books and leave the fanfic and the writers alone. I myself am enjoying the story alot sure there were a couple of things that kind of confused me but it didn't really make a big different to the overall plot of the story.

The reviewer talked about how Hermione let herself be abused.... well you would be surprised how many people are smart, etc but are still let that happen to them. Plus it was all part of your plot that Hermione planned it that way.

About Ron being OC well he was being "controlled" by Hermione.... if any character is the most OC it is Hermione but I don't care for some reason I kind of like the stories that have one or two of Harry's friends turn their backs on him. I myself have a story where they don't get along as well as they used to only I hit a road block a LONG while ago and haven't worked it out yet.

But back to your story I think it is very well written and your beta is doing ok nobody is perfect not even a beta. (I mean no offense to them) Please keep writing and don't let that one person get you down. You have almost 200 reviews for this story so far and it looks like very, very few ones that are not good reviews. As far as the "Smut" or whatever again I have seen a reviewer with the same name complain about other stories not having smut to their liking... yes this is an adult site but it doesn't say you have to have smut in the first chapter or even smut anywhere. It just means that there should be content in the story that is not considered for people under the age of 17 or 18 yrs of age.

    According to the front page

    http://adultfan.nexcess.net

it says "This group and webpage is to be a safe haven for all Authors of Adult Fan Fiction. All tv shows, movies, books, etc are accepted. Fiction must be Darkfic, Hard R or NC-17. All pairings/lifestyles welcome."

I don't see where it says you have to have smut. As far as the story being taken off ff.net well they are strange sometimes and peoples stories get deleted for unknown reasons.

Again please keep writing you are doing so well you said this is your first fic if believe and you are doing great much better then me I only got up to chapter 14 on my first fic before I got stuck... my HP fic is only at like 8 or 9 chappies where I am stuck. You are past 60 and still going please keep going.... recharge those batteries and keep going and going and going..... LOL .... you know what I mean.

I applaud your courage to even put yourself out there with a fanfic. I can't immagine putting myself in the firing line. Just know that I think your story is wonderful, and even reccomended it to a friend. You can write, and not everyone who attempts this can write well. Still, even if I don't like a fic, I just stop reading. I don't write bad reveiws because I can't cast the first stone. Thank you for your entertaining story!

firstly I press thanks upon you for writing this story, and I must review hence hearing the news of your lees-than admiring reviews from other readers, this is currently one of my favorite stories, and I would just like to comment to you (and your beta)to keep up the great (and hard) work.

Well, fuck everyone else. I think this fic is fucking wonderful and I check everyday to see if its updated. You write wonderfully, your beta is good, your plot is fantastic and even though I don't like evil Hermiones, you've done an excellent job portraying & making me wish torture on her. Few authors can make me hate a character so much that it burns. Don't stop writing. Even if we don't tell you often, your story makes our days a little more bearable.

ok now I have to review again and say "It's okay." everyone has an opinion, but they're wrong. Some of the most aclaimed Potter slash authors deviate from the books. The thing about open cannon is that is changes with every book, so people will always be wrong even if they were trying to stay with cannon. You found your artistic voice and its a strong one. Otherwise, you wouldn't have fans or haters, people wouldn't care. Think of it almost as a comliment. You're popular enough to have haters! =)

Love it! I think it's important that harry and draco have deeper feelings for each other before they get to the sex, good job! You're a great writer.

I hate to hear that you are getting so many bad reviews. Who cares if the smut isn't strong or in every chapter. There is more to life than sex. You're writing this the way you want to see the Harry/Draco world. I sat down and read all 60 chapters my first sitting, so that is saying a lot. You're writing style is good. I don't see where people have room to complain. As for your beta, I haven't seen too many mistakes in the 64 chapters you've already written so she can't be doing that bad of a job. (FYI, I was an English Major in college. I'd probably catch most of them...but that's neither here nor there.)

I think your story is great and I can't wait to read more, smut or no smut. Don't let the reviews get you down. Keep writing for yourself for the most part and if people like it, that's even better.

I LOVE this fic.!!!!! It is one of the best fics I've read and I've read alot of them (DM/HP) and other HP fics.

Don't let the assholes that flame you get to you. Fan Fiction is just that FAN fiction. There is no law that says that it has to be canon.

Please keep writing, you are a VERY talented writer, so keep your spirits up, and your muses happy.
