    Chapter Two:
Ah, comfort. Thank you for this!
I liked Severus being Draco's godfather and finding out about Draco's injuries. I liked his disbelieve (although I couldn't quite imagine him shedding a tear, I have to admit, but never mind me). I liked Severus trying to persuade Draco to see a healer, but of course Draco didn't want to hear about THAT (oh no, abuse is something no one talks about, it never really happens, does it?).
I'm wondering about that nearly empty bottle... What kind of nightmares does Severus try to forget?

Chapter 1: Wow, what a chapter! Poor, poor Draco!
Now I see the scene in the infirmary in a completely different light. Especially Draco's behaviour - he isn't an attention seeker, but a desperate kid!
Lucius - oh, yes, I can very well imagine him being like this! The family's name is more important than his son's health and well being.
I enjoyed this chapter very much. Ok, "enjoyed" is maybe the wrong phrase - I was terrified and hated Lucius for doing this to Draco.

I spent the night rereading the whole story, and let me tell you: It's brilliant. The plot, the characterizations, the emotions. Everything just... It's so touching it made me cry. I think the amount of work you've put into this really payed off.

Dear Ras, have you ever studied psychology? The insight you have into Draco's mindset - the fear and shame he feels, the way he takes the blame for Lucius' brutality by insisting it's his own fault he was punished, that Lucius had to do it because Draco was bad and weak - is amazing, and very much in line with what I have read about abused children and spouses. In almost every case I've read about, the abuser always brainwashed his victim into believing he/she deserved to be beated *before* he started the abuse, and this is exactly what I see in Draco's case too. It's nothing less than heartbreaking to see Draco worry about Pomfrey or Dumbledore realizing how "bad" he must have been to have deserved such a horrifying mistreatment by his own father. The poor little lad is almost more messed up in his mind than he is in his body, thanks to that damned sire of his.

I should have trusted that Severus would come to the rescue one way or the other, but I was happily surprised to see that Narcissa stiffened her spine sufficiently to help him get Draco away. That was indeed brave of her, considering what man she is married to, and I think she genuinely loves her son but doesn't know how to show it. I'm also glad Dumbledore is in on the action, helping to decoy Lucius while Snape carried out the rescue. It's high time the venerable Headmaster did something for someone else than his precious Gryffindors. Does he know, I wonder, the price Draco has had to pay for his arbitrarily handing the House Cup to Gryffindor every year?

Severus was splendid as always in this chapter. The image of the stern Potions Master sitting up with his sick godson in his arms, gently reassuring him of his presence, moved me deeply, and I loved that he instinctively sensed Draco's need to be held. His words to Draco at the end of the chapter, about loving him like his own son, was just what the boy needed to hear - and what a contrast to the man that did father him!

I'm very much looking forward to what will happen next. I highly doubt that Lucius will be scared off by his night in Azkaban, but now the secret's out - too many people know about how Lucius has mistreated his child, Pomfrey has probably documented Draco's injuries, and Lucius was fool enough to let Severus witness his use of Cruciatus on the boy. That does give them a considerable hold over him.

I'm so happy you decided to continue your story - it's one of the best Snape & Draco fanfics out there, and I've loved every chapter of it. Although the bleak ending of Chapter 5 was only too realistic/logical, given the way Draco has been conditioned since childhood, I'm glad you decided to prolong your story and give us a little hope for a happier ending.

It is a testament to your talent that I found Chapter 6 too painful to read in one go. The horrifying torture Draco undergoes at his father's hands was so realistically depicted that I actually felt physically ill, and had to leave my computer screen a couple of times to calm down. I kept seeing pictures in my mind of a fragile 12-year-old child, helpless under the fists and wand of his monster of a sire (Lucius does not deserve the title of father!), and I couldn't stop crying. Nothing excuses abusing a child. Nothing. And when that thrice-damned Lucius insisted that he had never hit Draco without just cause I literarily saw red.

I think the most heartbreaking part of it all was seeing the little self-confidence Severus had managed to install in Draco slipping away bit by bit as the old conditioning took hold of him again, and he once more became convinced that he deserved his sire's punishment. And in the middle of his pain and fear his greatest concern is to protect his godfather... who said Slytherins can't be selfless?

As I've said before, Lucius is a mystery to me. In his conversation with his wife he seemed to show slight concern for Draco and indicate that he only punished his son to make sure his lesson "gets through", but to me he's definitely much too fond of applying said punishment. Using Unforgivables on a mere child, let alone your own son?!? And as for Narcissa... sneaking into Draco's room to give him water is a good start, but any husband of mine caught abusing my child would be lucky to find himself comparatively safe in Azkaban. *growls*

Please, please, Draco, press that Panic Button! If this isn't a life-or-death situation I don't know what is.

you must update this. please dont leave us hanging. you've evoked such strong emotions in us readers that you just cant leave us hanging. please let draco be taken care of and let Sev save him.

the sad thing about this story is that things like this happen everyday. there are so many children out there that hurt by those they love; people that are supposed to take care of them.

please finish this fic, its too good to abandon

I am thoroughly enjoying this! There just isn't enough fics that show Severus in a good light and Draco in a sympathetic way. I actually like both characters from the books and movies. I like to think I can understand them. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Lucius did have a bad habit of beating up on his son.
I hope you let Draco be healed soon...unless you intend for him to die. Malfoy deathfic?? ;_; (I seem to remember you wanting this to have a happy ending, though) Well, either way, I love the way this is written and it keeps me on my toes. Read 3 chapters last night and the other 3 tonight. I hope you update soon; I can't wait to read what happens next. Canon or no canon! Rawr! Keep Going! =D
