I think that any parent of any student that goes to Hogwarts is already aware of the dangerous nature of the curriculum, particularly for an Advanced class. I'm not sure a Silencing spell would have worked on a demon. Any creature that can speak to several individuals at once most likely can not only hear but feel their responses. A Silencing spell doesn't stop the voice, only keeps others from hearing it. Can't be sure that would work on a demon. But you're right in that no one has perfect foresight. I think what happened with Snape could happen with any teacher though. Maybe not demons, but say, a child is killed on a field trip because he didn't follow simple instructions. It can happen. Not to say it does that often, but it can.

And about the entire Snape letting the class experience a demon... yeah, it was rather dangerous to expose students to it, but they were old enough to know better.
Still, he should have asked parents if they were willing to let their children take that risk or not.
Or he should have put Silencing spells on all of them so they couldn't talk at all.
But no one has perfect foresight. Not even Snape. And it was awesome of you, Figgy to keep him so in character.
Oh, and I really hope something awful happens to Edgar if he copies her paper or whatever lol.
    I am LOVING this story

Wow... Chapter 34 sent a trill of fear down my spine. I hope Hermione gets through it all right. Then again, with Snape at her side, how can she NOT?
    :)
Very excited for the next chapter

Great idea- I nominate Ron Weasley as the demon sacrifice! Problem solved! ;) I am constantly checking this page for updates- go Figgy go! I want a Snape bodyguard too! ::pouts:: This story just keeps getting better- and here I thought it would be over after the vampire problem was solved... silly me!

Wow, you really made me loath Minerva in this chapter! She's incredibly self-righteous and sanctimonious here and given that other DADA-teachers routinely took risks like this over the years without anyone objecting also hypocritical. But then it's so much easier to blame a Slytherin AGAIN when one of her own House is threatened...
And threatening him with Azkaban after all Snape did for the school and their side, after she already failed spectacularly during his own schooltime to protect him from her "nice" little charges! Gods, she really disgusts me here.

I hope that Severus, after solving this, can find a better place to work at, tell McGonagall to fuck off and leave Hogwarts' hateful halls behind...

I love Snape... but he did something VERY stupid this time (sorry gina XD) It is his fault.. a teacher IS ALWAYS responsable for what happens in HIS classroom. And Let's face it... 17 years old people ARE NOT COMPLETELY ADULTS... They are entering to be adults.. but still have so much to learn AND in Hermione's case her reaction was diferent cause her feellings were involved. No one else had her experience, for example in Harry's case he didn't saw Ginny but a woman he didn't knew. So if Severus screw it up... he must fix it... and let's remember that he ows Hermione u_u

AND Minerva Mcgonagal is over-protective anyway. She probably wouldn't even have DADA if it were up to her. Sorry I'm just mad Snape got blamed for doing his job. Hermione knew that wasn't the real Snape to start with. She should have figured it was just trying to get her mad. I'm finished now.

I don't think Snape summoning a demon is DADA class is unbelievable at all since he was teaching them how dangerous they could be. Summoning a demon is definitely dark magics. He's right. They aren't children but young adults, some of whom actually fought against Voldemort and have faced death before. Hermione should have kept better control of her emotions, especially since Snape warned them not once but a few times not to speak to the demon. It's her own fault this happened. Not Snape's. Hermione is always over-reacting to something.
