Jadewitch: Nope. This Snape isn't infallible and makes mistakes. I think you may have hit the dragon on the scale when you said he might have been too sure of his own abilities. He is treating his students as if they are older than what they are, but then again, that is pretty much the Snape way. A simple instruction such as "Don't speak to it" is easy enough to understand. Even in Potions he had students brew potions that were potentially deadly if not brewed in the correct manner or actuall were deadly if imbibed. If Hermione had not had an emotional response to the demon's words, everything would have been fine. But that's still no excuse. He's responsible for whatever happens in the classroom, although Advanced Defense Against the Dark Arts is a dangerous subject no matter how you look at it. There is no way to prepare students against the Dark Arts unless those arts are demonstrated.

You have to keep in mind every student in that class basically qualified for it, having attended the course for the full seven years, more or less sans the Final Battle and school closure. I'm relatively sure it is an elective at this stage. Classes become more difficult in the last years of school. DADA is no different. More dangerous things will be taught in the final term, so maybe he wasn't that far off the mark, but only doing what he felt was correct to do in order to educate them. Still, whatever his motivations or beliefs, Snape is in deep dung right now. And yes, it is a great device too. lol.

Interesting new chapter- as if the vampire thing wasn't enough, now Hermione has a demon after her? Yikes. It still seems pretty stupid for Severus to summon a demon at all, much less in front of his students. Even if they are technically "adults", he is always yapping about how "dunderheaded" everyone is, why would he think anyone so young could handle a demon if so many mature wizards and witches can't? It's a great new twist to the story, but it doesn't quite seem believable that Snape would endanger his students like that- although it does provide a convenient excuse to keep Hermione close to Snape, lol! The only thing I can think of is maybe Snape has a little too much confidence in his role as DADA instructor, that he thinks he can protect all those students from a demon by his will alone? Maybe he was better off teaching Potions after all. Even if he knows he can handle it, he has no reason to assume the students can. Sorry Sev, but I have to go with Minerva on that one. He really should have known better. It will be fun to see how this develops!

I would really love to see Ron get his just desserts for what he did to those girls, and for dumping Aden with a baby. Little creep- how much would he be bragging then? Even unintentionally, he got those other three killed. I hope he finds out eventually in this story what the consequences were for not keeping it in his pants. Stupid boy, needs to learn some responsibility in this fic- I mean, come on, he's a seventh year! And I wouldn't mind if Adam and/or Victor gave him a good scare too- lol! Unfortunately some boys never grow up. Hopefully Ron will- at least enough so I don't feel like kicking his ass every time he opens his mouth.. much!

LOL oh my, ruth! what did you do to the both of them now?
and I had thought you'd be finished with this story as soon
as vashti was killed... but no, you draw this out more and more - awesome!
now, how will hermione react to that new situation?
I love how they're forced to deal with eachother now :P

Fascinating. I'm aware that you've put a lot of work into editing and reposting this piece, and it seems to have been worth it. You created some delightful original characters and have handled Severus' attachment to Lily with sensitivity and some original insight, regardless of invented history.

That said, I wonder if it might not serve your purpose (and do your story justice) to consider altering the presentation. It might take a bit of work, but the results may prove worthwhile, to consider this a two- (or three-, or four-, or...) part story. It strikes me that there is a clear delineation between the first arc of the story (Snape's turning and the subsequent adventure to regain his humanity) and the second (the consequences of "Book One's" events). It doesn't feel quite the same as the relationship between an original and a sequel, as the parts flow together so well, but posting "Book One" as a complete piece and treating "Book Two" as a WIP might attract readers who avoid WIP to Book One and get them hooked for Book Two; after all, the first part of the story's very little feeling and very much physical, and any true romantic is going to want to find out exactly how Severus and Hermione recover from their ordeals and get back to snogging.

Anyway. Just thought I'd, you know, review, share my thoughts, whatever...

Hey Shamandumb - Over two-thirds of the story has been about vampires. With your finely tuned talent for observation, I'd stay away from plot critiquing if I were you.

    oh man.. that was tough.
the part where hermione said how unfair it was to leave him in the shack all alone,
how they had all mistreated them I got tears in my eyes. I'm not ashamed to admit that
I've cried rivers for the man when I read he died. it just wasn't fair, you know, just
like your hermione said and it touched me. thank fanfiction indeed, it gives some
    kind of solace..

up to chap 31 so far. geez look what happens when u don't check in regularly. sev/lily/james parallels with herm/wolfe/sev. but frm where sev stands he's still the pitiable one but its not like that really. wolfe is more like snape was then and in the position to get hurt. poor boy, but mione will handle the situation much better than lily did surely. we're so cruel as children, but it's frm petulance and ignorance not malice. though u still have me hating lily just a bit. gods that experience was so damaging! all though u laid it on a tad thick, it's relatable. i am liking this new empowered mione. i hope she dussnt jerk him about, i doubt she would, its not her way at all. though she may let him sweat it out for a while. god snape would hate this vulnerable character i see him as now. no worries, he'll do some snarky something-or-other sooner or later that'll have me thinking differently. update soon. imma catch up now, just had to put my too-sense in. >;^
