I just finished reading this story. And for once, I'm speechless. I really didn't know what to expect when I opened this story from your profile. I'm torn between loving it and puking. Not in a bad way, but just from the content. Your descriptions, for some reason, are just so much more vivid than anything I've come across. I've read about cannibalism and such before, but just the imagery of Draco eating Pearl without knowing it and being unable to sick the meat back up. Very powerful and evocative. Honestly, that one thought was carried with me to the end. Harry losing his foot bones, Draco losing his fingers and ribs. That descriptions alone, of the ribs and the mushy flesh left in its place, will be with me for a while. I think you hit on many of the inherent horrors of the flesh with those descriptions, which lends even more life to your style and the content.

The dynamic between Draco and Harry is unlike anything I've ever seen with this couple or anywhere for that matter. It's almost sweet, yet so utterly horrible and sad that I want to cry. I was rooting for them the whole way, but the realism that you employ for the aftermath was so convincing and -real- that I totally believed it. Part of me wanted them to go back to normal, but it was so thoroughly covered that you -knew- it would never be the same. The reader ends up mourning what could have been, while loving that what they have is so...almost perfect for what they have. If that makes sense. With the way they are, it fits. That was the most impressive thing. It all fits.

I also must congratulate you, as a fellow author. Putting that much conflict into a story and not having it blow up in your face is a feat of epic proportions. It's so hard to put that much suffering into characters' lives and bring them back - even a little - to some form of conclusion that the reader can be satisfied with. While Harry and Draco will never be the same that they were before the accident, they are at some form of closure after the incident. It's different, but still good for them.

And I applaud the plot. I don't think I would have ever put a spin on the labyrinth idea as you did. It's just phenomenal. Just the concept is brilliant. And pulling it off is just fabulous. I'm saving this story. It just so inspiring to see another author doing something so completely original and well done. I just can't stop thinking about this story. It's really a masterpiece. But at the same time, it's gut wrenching, terrible and beautiful. It encapsulates the human soul in its complexity while remaining true to a loose framework of the romantic ending. They are flawed and scarred, but they live, a little, happily ever after. Not easy and not perfect, but together. I love it.

I'll be working my way through your entire story list. And I can't wait. I've already read a lot of your work, such as Incandescence (loved!), A Reckless Fram of Mind (plus sequel) (amazing!) and Defendere (wonderful). You've just become my number one author. I'm literally swooning here! Fabulous!

    Bravo, Lomonaaeren. Bravo.

    That... was amazing.
    I loved it.
And I think the best part was that you didn't end it when Harry became human again... You let us see the healing process and you made it clear that while they escaped, were alive and relatively happy, it wasn't a story-book Happily Ever After.
Which I thought was fantastic, it was much more realistic this way. And made the story so much more about them than simply the maze.

This was insanely awesome. I usually avoid horror and pain and death and torture of this magnitude like the plague. But, on the suggestion of a dear friend, and her assurance that if I took it slow, and paused to breathe and reflect, I took the chance on this. Shigure-san, as usual, did not disappoint. It took me over three weeks, a little at a time, and breaking away from it when it hurt too much, but I am VERY pleased with this story. You took something horrifying, squicky, depressing, and downright nauseating, and made it into a rather heartwarming tale. No doubt this isn't all beer and skittles, and there are still MANY MANY things to be hashed out, but I like the way this horror ended and I really like your storytelling. I didn't get lost, the horror wasn't so over the top as to put off someone as chicken shit as me, and while I did have a dream or two about this story, I wouldn't classify them as nightmares.

Congrats on an amazing read and I hope you'll consider giving us more of your literary gems in the future.

Damn. Every chapeter was a work of art. Horrifying, heart felt and mind worping. I'm so glad that you finished the story the way you did. I was so afraid it would end with a 'I saved Draco, now let's live happily ever after'. Amazing work.

As avid a fan I am, your blatant skill begs the question why are you wasting time with fanfiction and not publishing? Perhaps you are. Either way, I would highly recommend it. I devoted 26 hours to this story. A small fraction compared to yours I bet. And many more hours for othe stories. The thing is, I would have paid for such an amazing brand of entertainment. It is rare to be in the presence of genius.
    Cheers

This was such an incredible story. I don't usually read horror, but this story grabbed my attention and held it the whole time. The details that made up the story line are fabulous - I'm still amazed and I finished reading yesterday! Thanks for a wonderfully written work!

I enjoyed that immensely. It was really wonderful, and quite unlike anything I have ever read before. I really enjoyed how you wrote this, and I enjoyed how you wrote both Harry and Draco. I was really afraid that something horrible had already happened to Ron and Hermione, but thankfully they were both okay. I'm glad they weren't tortured. I feel so bad for Draco. I can't imagine what it must have been like to be tortured for that long. I'm glad that Harry was able to save him in the end. I'm also glad that Richard got was he deserve, that man was really evil. The most powerful part was when Richard revealed that Draco was eating Pearl, that was sick. I'm glad that Harry was able to come back to Draco, this story would have been depressing if it had ending with Harry being the sacrifice. The last part was nice, I'm glad that Harry got over his qualms about being gay. I just loved the horror, and the surprises. This is one of the best stories I have read so far. Thanks for sharing it with all of us and I am off to read more!

I adored this. Or perhaps adoration isn't the appropriate feeling when people are being gutted constantly. When you first made the big clue of Harry contemplating without actually expressing the conclusion that he would become the foundation, I was oddly reminded of the myth of Atlas and Hercules, although that wasn't of self-sacrificial nature. So a few things: I like that you went beyond the maze a bit, adding in their recovery rather than just a hope for recovery. It was touching, when Harry was turned into for the first time-light when he rememberd Draco's name before his own. And although we knew Harry's sacrifice was coming, you wrote this particular section quite beautifully. I love the moments of his turning into the foundation, his moments when he heard Draco and Hermione talking, and finally the moments when Draco pleaded with Harry, and Harry came back to him, even if his intention was only to return for a few moments. It was sad to read that Harry's muscles disallowed him from any sort of strenuous activity, even moreso when he was described as retiring (taking a break) at 21. More ironic is the fact that they defined his heart to be his weak point now. Although it was touching how Harry didn't comprehend why everyone else thought his life was ending, as he now had Draco. A few lines I liked from this end bit: 1) We can make the truly valuable people, the ones who will most aid our world in the future, immortal and 2)

    Hello there!
I believe I've read some of your stories before and I think I reviewed you before if not here in fanfiction.net.
I am fascinated by your fics i think i've read almost everyone(not the severus/Harry, I'm a Harry/Draco fan). Your fics, your plots, your characters, the way you describe them is amazing, I see a lot of greatness there.
I was amazed by this fic in particular beacause you took your time developing the relationship between harry and draco and you justified every single approach they had, every moment. Your fic had mistery, romance, angst, horror, gore, it was everything at the same time.
Every chapter was long enough to make me wonder and rush to read the next one.
I hope I didn't bore you, I just needed to write this, perhaps beacause i don't leave reviews very often.
Keep on writing, You're doing a great job and congrats!!

Hello there! I'm only up to Chapter 9 unfortunately, but I'll have to take a break from this, which also breaks my heart since I'm rather enthralled by this, in a way I hadn't been in your other stories. (Just got my Breaking Dawn book :() The descriptions are horrifying and very amazing. I'm sort of reminded of and seeing this in my mind's eye through artwork created by Kaori Yuki (I recommend Googling some of her murder scenes). Sort of beautiful horror here. I was surprised that thoughts of Sirus in the story didn't appear sooner when Harry was disreguarding the unexciting job in the Department of Mysteries. A few things I really liked were these lines (I seem to be doing this more often. lol Sorry if it is anoying): "He was an Auror now, and Aurors were only expected to save individual people, not the world." This was surprising to me. I had always thought being an Auror was a rather inappropriate job for Harry's character, but this line convinced me in some aspects. "Mrs. Weasley

There really are no words for how much I love this story. This is the first 'horror' fic I have read that I would actually classify as *true* horror. Most others are just violent and dark this was just...wow. The imagery the atmosphere, the tortures made the horror fan in me so very very happy. Have you heard of 'Silent Hill'? I feel like it would fall under the same [sub?]genre of horror as this story.

My heart ached for Draco it wasn't so much the tortures, although they were horrible [that's not even a strong enough word for them], but how deeply they affected him. His immediate attachment to Harry and Harry's protectiveness was beautiful. All those hair petting and hugging moments were so adorable. I also really liked the characterization especially of Harry. I thought his protectiveness and 'I'm not gay!' mentality were very well written.

In the chapter were Harry was thinking about ways to remove Draco from the maze I knew he would probably sacrifice himself in the process but I really hoped I was wrong. From that scene onwards I became so anxious for Draco all the while screaming at Harry for being a self-sacrificing bastard.

    & the aftermath? perfect.

You, unlike many others, were able to capture just how deeply a trauma can affect a person. Harry's denial, Draco's near obsession, the rounded edges, therapy and isolation...

I do have some questions though: What would have happened if Harry had made Richard substitute himself under the imperius curse? What they maze have collapsed completely or would he have looked as Draco had in an incomplete maze?

I also wanted to know what the difference was between returning a memory and simply viewing it. When it is 'returned' is it knowing and remembering what it felt like versus simply knowing that it happened?

This is irrelevant but I don't usually enjoy bottom!harry but how he offered to bottom even when he was reluctant to have anal sex was so so sweet. So Harry. Still protective in whatever circumstance.

In short: I love this story and thank you so much for sharing your writing with us. :]
