Sorry about that...finger error. I'm so happy I was right about Nesbitt and I think letting the Veil deal with him is just perfect.

And the mystery unfolds, YAY! I love a good mystery....and a good horror tale....I might write one for Halloween......could be fun.....anyhoo.

I wonder....perhaps the veil will act as a modern day wood chipper when they toss him through....eww...that was gross wasnt it.....

Cant wait for it to all unfold and of course for the celebratory lemons......

    Happy Writing!

    Chapter 43

"portemanteau" (your spelling is missing an "e" I believe...and are you certain that this is the right word? In French un portemanteau is a stand upon which one hangs one's coat. At least that's how I use the term. So I have this image of the solicitor sneaking files neatly folded into the pockets of various coats hung upon coat hooks. Hehe...

Wow. This guy is monologing like crazy! There must be more to it than this...and I certainly hope that Lucius will get there in time to save Hermione.

    "andeluvian" antediluvian isn't it?

And Lucius comes back in the nick of time! Except that she already saved herself. Hermione is certainly no damsel in distress. :) I like that about her. I don't remember her purchasing another wand...is that forgetfulness on my part?

How will they dispose of all this incriminating evidence? Will they bring the sollicitor to justice or will this be a case of vigilante justice on the part of Lucius (and possibly Hermione)? Did the sollicitor really keep things as secretive as he appears to believe? A man who likes to monologue may have done so in the past...

Questions for the author...What was your motivation in revealing that "uncle Malfoy" was murdered in cold blood? Was it in order to provide certainty in regards to his death? Was it so that he would be punished for his squib hating (although I get a sense that you also wanted to redeem the dead guy in some small sense)? Was it to establish that his partner in crime was a truly evil man who deserved to be punished? I see a bit of all of these things in the story but I wonder why his "white collar" hate crime wasn't sufficiently evil.

    -----

Lots more to come you say? Woohoo! Looking forward to it all!

My favorite line in this chapter: "You owe me, Curly. Pucker up." It's great to learn a new skill.

I am going to go out on a limb here and say that I think the lawyer is the co-blackmailer. What's his name, Gus? I first thought the circled names were illegitimate children of the Uncle. However, that theory has bitten the dust.

OMG, what a hoot this chapter was. Talk about misunderstanding. Hot stuff, too.

Hermione's dress sounds so beautiful and tasteful, and Lucius is dressed to kill. I loved the detail you put into describing the clothing, both cut and color, and the jewelry. The social nuances of the party were also interesting.

Have you ever read the "Hornblower" series by C.S. Forester or a series by Patrick O'Brian, the first of which is entitled "Master and Commander?" They are similar as they are both about British officers, set just prior to your story, during the Napoleonic Era 1792-1815. You probably know "Hornblower" was made into a mini-series with actor Ioan Gruffudd (woff!) and "Master and Commander" was made into a movie with actor Russell Crowe.

Oh, Hermione's problem explains so much. Thank goodness she finally told Lucius. Well, she was actually cornered into revealing what the problem was. Those Slytherins. And we are branching out into role-playing. What delicious fun.

Hermione's tortuous teas sound worse than being in a battle. What a bunch of biddies. Then the bitches try putting the moves on her husband! What kind of society does that? At least she found out something of value to help solve their puzzle.

I adore the way you started chapter 28. That scene is very moving.

As for the influence of the Veil; Lucius and Hermione really let each other have it with everything that has been bothering them that they have been holding back. That was informative and extremely painful for them both. The laughter in Lucius's head was a nice touch.

I am enjoying your story so much.

Lucius's brilliant idea to take Hermione back to the bordello to prove his business sense and how his employees are "very happy" with their work certainly blew up in his face. "Harmless fun" Lucius calls it? Ha! How many bare arses has he seen and touched and spanked? This is his kink, so obviously he was aroused by doing so. If the women enjoyed it too, . . . Harmless, NFW! What would Lucius think if Hermione indulged in something similar with strange men?
