The plot thickens....very interesting. I have a few theories.
We know the uncle was preventing Squids from getting married to wizards by bribing the wizards' families and this had been going on for about thirty years and was not illegal. We also know that someone else, who may or may not have been working with the uncle, later began blackmailing the Squid's families.
To be able to blackmail you have to have damaging information and no scrupules to use it.
The uncle probably gathered this information through his solicitors while doing his research on Squids. It seems he didn't intend to use it but nothing prevented his solicitors (Neviile & Ridge) to begin a systematic blackmail system with the knowledge they had. We know Neviile is a "veritable fount of rumors, innuendoes and outright scandals" of wizarding society and that he has no respect for muggleborns and Squids, so he has both information and the correct background to be behind the blackmails.
Maybe I'm right, maybe not but it's fun to try to unscramble your mystery.
Looking forward for the rest of the dinner party.

Oh my, they're almost as much fun getting dressed as they are undressing! I wish I had your gift for taking a scene slowly and yet never dragging or losing the reader's interest; you can make the most seemingly trivial detail speak volumes about a character or situation. I'm always trying to whip the action along; I find it really hard to stop and breathe sometimes. *Takes notes*

But my jaw dropped at the dress being cut down to her clit! I said "Hermione!!!!" in a shocked schoolmarmish tone. LOL. Fabulous description of the clothes though (I'm a bit of a sucker for reading about clothes).

Now how is this dinner party going to go, eh? Will anyone get Crucio'd? I will look forward to finding out.

You think snoring is bad?! My other half SQUEAKS. Though, I talk in my sleep, so it's not all him.

Lucius is so like my other half, as far as clothes goes! Andy spends forever trying to decide on what to wear for a night out! I'm dressed in minutes, he takes hours! I could never say Andy looks like Lucius, he's more of a tanned Snape with short hair, he's got one heck of a nose! (don't tell him I said that)... though, he's got Neville's temprement. lol.

Mum taught me well... but we don't agree on frills! Though we've the same attitude to makeup - if it isn't a special occasion, don't bother putting on your face. Makeup is reserved for weddings, christenings, funerals, birthdays, important nights out and job interviews. We're both blessed with very clear (practically flawless) skin, we don't need warpaint to cover it.

Are we still in the era of ankles being erotic?

    Hoping she'll sneeze? lol!

I've read that many married women of the era wore a 'cap' to show they were married. Pleas tell me Hermione doesn't wear such a horror!

Oh eye? Hermione reads playwitch, does she? And how many issues was Lucius ACTUALLY in?

Not that the wives will know any scone recepies! Their house elves will, but not them! lol!

To say Hermione won't like his little mind probing is like asking 'is the Pope Catholic?'

    Ooooh - the plot thickens...

Til I turn blue? That's all right, blue is a good color for me.

Oh, banter. One of my great loves. It's always so great between Lucius and Hermione, whether it's sweet, aggressive, or sarcastic. It's half the reason I adore them as a couple.

If Hermione doesn't develop any style from living with Lucius, there is no hope for her. Lucius was too cute with his dandy behavior. It stands to reason that someone who looks so polished all the time must be obsessive about clothing. Lucius, the leading metrosexual of the wizarding world, haha.

And isn't he sneaky, using legilimency, though I suppose that is a more direct route for the information he needs. I'm willing to bet that Lucius may catch a glance of that owl with the odd tail feathers - or is that a red herring designed to distract us? Maybe it's the Armbrusters.

Ah, but there I go again with my speculation. I think I'm going to clamp down on it for now lest I turn a less flattering shade of hypoxic.

Great work as usual...can't wait to read about Lucius displaying his 'wares', hehe.

Ah Lucius. I should have guessed he'd encourage his new leaf to take yoga and pilates to gain the flexibility he wants to suit his needs. lol Great update, I can't wait for more!

Funny having Lucius pick out her frock LOL for me it was always the opposite, I was always the one picking out the dickheads clothing. He was so horrible at it that at one point while he was away training, he went to an event at a commander's house that said Casual Dress...idiot wore jeans, tee shirt and nikes....the commander asked him where his wife was immediately when he saw how he was dressed.....

Oh well....anyhow, enjoyed that little bit of intimacy, thats how I saw it, an intimate moment of bonding between the two of them.

    Happy Writing!

Hmmm - the plot thickens. I so sympathesize with Hermione and her assets on display. Some stupid men can never look a woman in the eye, can they?

Lucius, you dirty dog! The ends justify the means though, right?

Keep up the great work, Lady!

I have been reading for two days, nonstop. I do apologize for not rewiewing before but you have to understand that I had to finish every chapter before I could calm down and write a review.
The storyline is fantastic. First your use of the Veil as a sentient being, purposely manipulating L&H to change the past. I think you have said you are a fan of Star Trek, I am too and the Veil made me remember a little the Guardian of Forever, you know, traveling trough a portal and altering the future. I am just waiting for it to say "All is right" once the timeline has been restored. I love the concept of time travel and restoring timelines.
Then the prophesy, how they slowly work it out, how it leads them to undoing the mistraetment of Squibs, the blackmail, the wierd uncle, and last but not least, H&L's fantastic chemistry.
Thank you so much for this story.
I just want to let you know I stll smile everytime I remember "The Wizard of Auds"...that was priceless.

Ah, the peacock and the peahen; a very apt image. And lots of feathers are being ruffled out in wider Wizarding society, which seems to be just as vicious and gossipy as the salons of the Muggle Regency. I like the idea that Lucius would 'sort them out' for Hermione though. He has a kind of Tony Soprano quality there, though Hermione and Carmela wouldn't have much in common.

The idea of Lucius ever blending into any kind of crowd is quite funny. He's not a bland type, is he? Oh no.

Anyway, you'll probably have updated again by the time I finish this review, so I'd better say a quick 'great chapter' and continue my day's reading.

Surprise the internet works just the same here in Dallas as it did in New Orleans...amazing. Finding a new chapter of yours to devour makes evacuation hell much better. Could the insight into her husband all part of the veil's plan? Are they going to become parents of the greatest squib of the wizarding world? So much to ponder. Thanks for something to think about.

Yay, you can update early all you want. I am starting to wonder what your next story could be. I know you have quite a few chapters, but now I am thinking you must be making a lot of progress with your new story, if you feel comfortable posting sooner.

Anyway, Hermione is so cute when she
