Sorry to hear about your computer problems and your stomach flu. I understand completely, I had a nasty stomach virus this spring that took me 2 weeks to fully recover from and my computer was mortally injured by a power outage. I had to finally brek down and get a new one, the awful thing is that I'd bought the old one less than 2 years before.

There is no Menwith, but there is a Birstwith a few miles to the East. Darley is a little closer just down at the bottom of the hill. I nearly went head over handlebars the day I decided to explore. I had just bought a second hand bicycle and decided to explore the area around the base. I didn't relize how steep that hill was and I wasn't used to hand brakes on a bike. When I put the brakes on to slow down I ended up steering into the grass on the side of the road to avoid hitting the asphalt. I almost made it, but I ended up with the scraped knees of a 10 year old.

The cottage sounds wonderful. I can't wait until you gert to the lemons. Update ASAP.

Good. the attraction is acknowledged by both. Are we now into UST? If so,11 I hope it gets resolved quickly.

When we were there Menwith Hill was an outpost for the 'Puzzle Palace' itself, NSA. The antenna field was leased from a local farmer and sheep grazed there. Those sheep were know to come to the bcka door of the NCO/Officers Club where the kitchen was located to look for hand outs. They must have been a breed that had some cat in their ancestry.

The wind could be as bad there as on Mt. Washington. It blew at hurricane force and they closed the school on those days because it was strong enough to blow the smaller kids down. They also used ropes attached to stakes in the ground to tie down the roofs on the chapel, the clubs, and the building with the PX, Post Office, American Express office and the Snack Bar. That wind missed harrogate altogether in only blew like that up on the moors where the base was located.

It's Menwith Hill, in fact when we were there it was the 13th USASA Field Station, APO 09210. That was many years before the original Beverly Hills 90210 and I always felt like they stole our APO number. Everybody called it Menwith Hill though. I took a bus tour from Harrogate to Harewood House one day and when we went past the base the bus drive/guide picked up the microphone and told all of us that Menwith Hill was an 'underground submarine rescue station'. Many of those very proper little old British ladies on that bus believed him, but they were mainly tourists and had no idea that Menwith Hill was a US Army base.

Finally a little personal background for Lacey. I'd been wondering about her single status. I hope that his 'There was someone, but she died' reply means that he's over Lily. She didn't deserve such devotion, she wouldn't accept his apology, or understand why he lashed out that day, and she ended their friendship and took up with his second biggest enemy (Sirius was the biggest villain of the Marauders). I'm pleased to see some signs of attraction appearing between them now.

"I loved the encounter with the house elf" lol This girl doesn't shrink from a battle. Her nerves are a little shot at this point though and she desperately needs a reprieve.

"How did Severus come to be there in the right place at the right time to come to her rescue?" This will be answered in the next chapter and I promise, it's completely innocent at this point. Except the better question is why he had to shut himself in the bathroom after seeing her wet and wearing only a towel...

"they did fight them off as equals and partners... They make a good team." And THAT is the idea. He needs someone who can match him. No shrinking violets for Severus.

I loved the encounter with the house elf and then the suggestion from the mirror that she get on with things and get dressed.

How did Severus come to be there in the right place at the right time to come to her rescue? I was wrong, she was a damsel in distress, but I wasn't completely wrong, they did fight them off as equals and partners. He called in a Hippogriff to rescue them, if her electronics were working she could have called in a helicopter. They make a good team.

I'm sorry that I didn't read and review this sooner, but I've been having computer problems. My was fatally injured in a power outage and I was without a computer of my own for 6 weeks until the new one I ordered arrived.

Lacey and I have the same viewpoint of the world, and Severus has pretty much the same viewpoint. I admire Lacey for her viewpoint and for the fact that she is the commander of the group that came to help at Hogwarts. She is not and never will be a damsel in distress that he will have to risk his cover and his life to get her out of a distressing situation. They will be equals and partners in their mission.

Oh, good job. I like Lacey's reaction to the house elf, and Snape's definite interest in her as a woman. Good job.

Glad you're still into it, I didn't know if interest had waned or not.

"I like that Lacey and Snape have much more in common with each other than they realised"
What I like best about this is that Snape now has someone who can commiserate. Lacey is more well-adjusted because of the military community, Snape hasn't had that.

I'm so glad to see you're back on the writing stick. (Whatever that means) I like that Lacey and Snape have much more in common with each other than they realised. I loved the "Cooter Brown" comment. I laughed out loud on that one. Great touch there, especially since Hagrid probably doesn't know the full meaning. Good job.

"I wondered what happened to this story, I'm glad you're back with a new chapter."

Yes, long time, no write. Life has definitely gotten in the way of fantasy and when it comes to this story, I'm stuck anyway. I'm still not quite sure where I want it to go. Whenever I figure that out, I'll get it there. I do have a new one up though, and I'm working on a second chapter for "A Better Fate," which will be up soonish.

    Chapter 1:

What an intriguing start. I look forward to more. I loved the (Obviously) American saying, "Dude, dude, look at the cat, man."

    Chapter 2:

Ooh, I like that they can see magic now. The idea that their eyes have been opened to another world after their encounter with the giants.

    Chapter 3:

I like the debriefing scene. Snape getting testy with the bravado of the soldiers was very much in character. Little does he realise that they've seen just as much, if not more than he has, as far as combat and the like.

I was wondering if you have an update schedule or if you give notices when you have a new chapter up. If you do, my email is: tambrathegreat@gmail.com.

I wondered what happened to this story, I'm glad you're back with a new chapter. It sounds like the Tedious one and the Death Eaters are going to get their butts whipped real good with lots of blood and guts and gore on their side. That's just what I wanted. I'm dying to know what's in store for Bellatrix. I'm guessing a combination of conventional weapons and magical torture before she gets ak'ed or kissed by a dementor.

Hey, thanks to you both. Chapter 3 should be up sometime soon since it's nearly finished, but the school year is upon us again--at least in service is, so I'm not sure when I'll get to finish it.

I'm glad to see you posted this. I'm going to copy my challenge from my LJ and put it here.

Rowling let a great number of good guys be killed or have violence inflicted upon them, or are tortured, but I don't remember any violence or torture inflicted on the bad guys and I only remember Bellatrix, Pettigrew, Nagini, and 'He Who I Find Most Tedious and Tiresome' being killed. And not one of them had the slow and painful death i was hoping forI'd bet that she only killed them because she couldn't get away with not doing it. Yet she killed off the real hero of the saga in the most disrespectful and ridiculous way possible, with a giant snake encased in a bubble and then let him bleed to death.

There is nothing wrong with showing th bad guys sufeering and dying. It happens in real life. There are times when 'field justice' is so justified that it's the only way to go. Vengeance can be very sweet. I'd love to see Bellatrix writhing in pain; or Peter Pettigrew howling his lungs out; or some other Death eater being tortured. No, all I ever see is Snape in that spot. I couldn't even find any pictures of suffering deatheaters to illustrate this entry.

I am politically incorrect enough to say let them suffer, they deserve it. How about somebody writing a little Death Eater or 'He Who I Find Most Tedious & Tiresome' torture? A slow painful death for them would be highly appreciated.

Now that I know there is interest, I'm going to run with what Pitt said and issue my first formal Challenge, The Death Eaters in Pain Challenge. Here's what I want to see: Death Eaters, particularly Bellatrix and Peter, suffering (bonus points if 'He Who I Find Most Tedious & Tiresome' suffers); Death Eaters die; A surviving Serverus inflicting some of that pain and suffereing getting his chance to have some justified vengeance on them; I want him showing that he can dish it out to them as well as have to take it; the women of the order, the older girls at Hogwarts and Narcissa doing the same to the Death Eaters who always made them feel threatened and vulnerable; snakeskin boots for Severus and Neville at least; Umbridge vilified and humiliated and forced to keep her government employment by assissting Filch by doing the dirtiest and most menial jobs that he hates to do and then doing the crap jobs for the house elves; a kick-ass OFC who is somewhere between 30 to 40 years old for Severus; Lucius and Draco must be either wholly villains or have changed sides completely (I enjopy reading them both ways).

Here are some more suggestions I'm editing in. When Umbridge has free time during class hours she could be used as a practice dummy for the DADA classes. I like the idea of a Death Eater Harmonica of Pain. The pain cry of each one would be tuned to a certain pitch and then by reading the music and pointing your wand you cast a pain causing spell at the one whose cry is the pitch you need to continue the music. I'd use Cruciatus myself, because you can time it for the lenght of the note you need and control the tempo of the music. It seems very Addams Family to me, that's why I like it.

Take your pick, but I do insist on a surviving and healthy Severus, the snakeskin boots, the OFC and the pain and suffering for the Death Eaters.

Now back to watching and rooting for local boy Michael Phelps.
