Reviews for The Robber Bridegroom

Chapters 1-8: Dark, disturbing, foul, haunting, courageous, and heartbreaking. Hermione had survived so much - torture, isolation, starvation - and was 'saved' by Lucius Malfoy for...what? Sex? Altruism? Hardly. Hermione was clever enough to know he had saved her purely to save his own skin later if he was successful in bringing down the Dark Lord. She was his insurance policy against being held accountable for being a Death Eater when Voldemort's regime failed. He protected her, fed her, allowed her to have limited freedom within his house, but behind his every kindness was calculation.

Had he not also succumbed to using her in the bedroom, indulging himself carnally when he didn't have to do that, he might have won free. Hermione was also clever enough and experienced as a slave to know that Lucius probably didn't have much choice in Ron's fate when he was secretly instrumental in spying for Harry. It was a horrific act of war and Ron's death was terrible, but was that the deciding factor in Hermione's decision to betray Lucius? Perhaps her betrayal had a bit more of personal vengeance involved, knowing that Lucius, for all his personal agenda, had made Hermione feel something for him, something she was ashamed to acknowledge to herself - that the charismatic man had found a way into her heart. She was angry at herself for feeling anything for the murderer of Ron. In the end, Lucius paid for his accumulated bad, selfish decisions - his hubris and inbred sense of invincibility defeated him. Lucius and Hermione could never have had any kind of future together. Frankly, I don't think Lucius would have wanted anything real with her after he'd freed himself from Voldemort. She was a means to an end for him. He gambled on having mesmerized Hermione enough in the bedroom and with his kindnesses to keep himself safe. He didn't plan on one of the oldest of cliches - a woman scorned...

The saddest part of the story is the end - Hermione did what she thought she wanted to do, to deliver Lucius up to justice as the murderer he obviously was. She didn't let the ambivalence of his loyalties, spying for Harry, sway her as she caused him to hang. Yet for her to have turned her face away from a man who had made her love him, would cause her to forever ambivalently regret her action as she watches her son grow. She will never be able to forget what she did. It was her decision, her action, and she'll have the vision of watching Lucius die haunting her thoughts until the day she dies herself. What a horrible fate. Between the two, there were no winners.

This was very good. One of the most well written stories that I have read here in a while. I seriously got chills. I can not wait to go and read your other 'sets'. The idea is very intriguing and I like the premise alot. Plus, you are a fantastic writer. Keep it up.

This was an altogether different turn. Brother father to brother. I guess she loved Lucius in the end, but she hated him more than she loved him. Or perhaps she loved Ron more. Excellent turn!

Holy Crap! This is outstanding--it is dark, disturbing and fabulou all at the same time (and that is a tall order!). I am intrigued to see how Lucius and Hermione will take down the Dark Lord and how their relationship will evolve in th meantime.
    Fantastic start!

Oh my gosh... This is dark! It was truly disturbing and sickening at times. Nevertheless, it's a great tale and nicly written, too... Thumbs up!
