Sev darling, this just saved my day AGAIN. (I dropped my phone yesterday and some fucking bastard stole it after that and... well... a certain someone talked to me about making mistakes. :D)

Alex: Thanks for taking the time to be so thorough! I'll attempt to explain.

About the canon ages: I'm DEFINITELY not implying that Lucius would've been bad at school! He'd AK me on the spot for that :) I forgot to mention that this is very old. It was originally written way before DH, back in the day when most of us assumed Lucius to be at most two years older than Snape&the Marauders. It's just that I like the story so much... I might do it a bit differently, as James and Sirius' first drinking experience or something (if they're on their 2nd year they are 12-13 years old, which is about the age I got drunk for the first time so it might make it a bit more believable).

About Severus' spell-casting: Good point. I hadn't really thought of that. But the hex he used wasn't exactly in the Hogwarts curriculum :) Sometimes there are these stupid little things we just can't get exactly right no matter how smart we are... But I'll give it some thought. Thanks for pointing out the problem! (No, he's definitely no Ronald Weasley :) )

That was interesting. And very in character for the self-rightous bullying attitude of the Gryffindor silver spoon brigade.

Though a few things didn't add up for me:
    - canon ages: Potter and Black are clearly older teenagers here - which makes it impossible for Lucius hanging around Hogwarts, let alone as prefect. Lucius is canonically 5 to 6 years older than Severus (41 in OootP to Severus being 35/36 during that time) so they shared only 2 years at the most. Unless you want to imply Lucius was so horrible a student he had to repeat years at least 3 times?

    - Severus' problems with casting a spell due to mispronouncing incantations, apparently repeatedly since it seemed a wellknown problem to Malfoy. He's not Ron Weasley for Heaven's sake!
At the age you have them Snape had already successfully been developing HIS OWN ORIGINAL spells left and right! It's pretty ridiculous for someone on that highly advanced level of using, creating and understanding magic to fail at something basic like correct pronunciation. Especially someone who had to use Latin all the time to create his own spells (and thus must have had a MUCH better grasp of the language than, say academically and intellectually disinterested Harry and Ron!). And he was already able to cast wordlessly too...

It was very funny. I particularly like it when James try to be reasonable and finally gives in and that they wandered "drunkily" around. Also the hex was quite original and very effective ( I don't know many people who would go and complained about his h*** at Dumbledore or Mc Gonagall)
