You know, I've always liked the Severus/Hermiony pairings because they have so many things in common, it just seems to be an excellent match. While Ron would always be impressed by her font of knowledge and leaps of logic, Severus would challenge and match her. A much more equal coupling.

Hmm, a Gryffin? That's pretty cool. I like how Snape is opening up and letting go. Nicely done.

VoraciousReader: lol. I didn't mean to imply that Snape's Animagus form requires pain, loss, and anger, but that Snape needed to release that in order to connect with his inner self. It was holding him back from transforming.

Please tell me he isn't an Ourobouros, (even though constantly chewing on himself would be totally in character.)Creature change triggered by primal feelings of anger, rage, pain, loss and greif? Great, now I have to find a bestiary! Good chapter.

Sorry that I haven't been reviewing regularly, but time's been an issue lately. I do love the way you've bent Severus' character without the added burden of twenty years of tension and suspicion weighing him down. The 'pissing contest' between him and Ron is very believable, as is his slow acceptance of Harry. That was one blind spot that always bothered me in the novels--can an adult really blame a child for the sins of the father so bitterly? Just seemed unreasonable to me, but I suppose it does happen. I also like the idea of Lucius becoming his patron instead of Riddle. I imagine it will signifigantly change the directions of his studies for his Mastery.
