Thank god you posted another chapter! I felt like leaving some kind of snarky review, but figured you had a good reason and that it would be in bad taste to take your usually prompt updates for granted. Ron is really impressing me, here. In fact, developed further, he'd be a contender against Snape for me, just in that he's devoted, jealous, yet still reasonable. I'm interested, of course, in what Hermione was doing with Snape. Hopefully she wasn't cheating on Ron/seducing the Professor. A few of the quirky explanations (nonsensical or not) that drifted through my head were: vampire, life debt induced favour, checking a wound, a spell that required absolute eye contact etc etc. I'm anxious for your next update, and I'm crossing my fingers that it's quick.

For some reason I decided to sit through the series premiere of glee last night and it was quite entertaining imagining Snape as the glee club sponsor. I thought of all the goth/atmospheric metal songs the kids could be doing on stage and it was very funny.

Oh please please please please let him see the one where he sneered that he saw no difference when her teeth had grown past her chin. He needs to see what a smug, irritating, sadistic bass-tard he was! Oh, I want him to grow and heal and for them to get together eventually, but first he needs to know he was not the most pleasant person to be around with her. Snarky pain in the a$$! Sigh. Sorry, but him being so, well him, brought it all back for me. I guess it doesn't help that I just finish listening to Book 4 again two days ago and am on Book 5 now. Sigh..

Okay, back to fantasy Severus and your story... As I hope you can tell, I am really enjoying it. :-) I love your fast updates and I honestly look forward to more really soon! Thank you. HG4eva

Addendum: Concerning his reaction to Lily's death, I also used his older reactions from when he found out Lily was dead in Albus' office. He was wishing he was dead, agonizing she was gone and reacting quite emotionally, sobbing and the works. As an even younger man, I imagine his reactions would have been even stronger. When he begged Dumbledore to protect Lily, he was described as being on his knees and looking quite mad. So . . . you can kind of see where I was coming from with his apparently over the top, but based on hints from canon, understandable reactions. Fanfiction writers often have a habit of writing Snape as cool and in control, but in the books, he's really quite volatile and emotional, and actually quite cruel.

Hi Alex: My physical description only describes him as being thin. Nothing about his height although he is obviously taller than Hermione. I took his reactions actually from his OLDER personality in canon rather than his younger. Snape was known to shout, spit, tremble and become enraged when he became angry actually. That's the template I used for the younger Snape except he has even less restraint because he hasn't yet matured. And you are correct that he is 18, since I put the date as March. I'll correct that and put it as early January just before his birthday. Math messup. lol.

As for his maturity, you have to remember this Snape is a STUDENT, and as one, he does bow to authority. It makes more sense than his standing up to them as a true adult when he hasn't yet been on his own. I believe he is showing the right amount of anger and deference. Even in canon he deferred to both Voldemort and Albus, although he always questioned Albus before he deferred. He's doing the same here. He can only be so forceful because he's not in control of the situation entirely, at least where the adults are concerned. As a mother who raised three teenagers simultaneously, and who even in adulthood have immature moments, this Snape is extremely believable to me in his reactions as a seventeen year old frustrated youth. But we all have our opinions. Thank you for yours. :)

It's an interesting start. And well-written too.

However I can't help but feel that something is seriously off with your young!Snape. If it's 1978 in his memory, and thus his physical age, he's 18 years old! His physical description though (clearly A LOT smaller than his adult height which is unlikely for someone over 18 already, even a physically later maturing boy), his behaviour make him sound YEARS younger. From how you wrote him I would put him at 14, 15 at the most...

The way the teachers treat him and he how lets them without question despite (in his belief of reality) the fact that he's been an adult in the eyes of the wizarding world for more than year already also makes it hard to believe your portrayal of supposedly 18year old Severus. He's also curiously meek and willing to let himself be ignored and patronized by the adults: from how he acted in canon even as a much younger teen I'd find it not very likely that he wasn't more forceful in such a weird, suspicious situation. He's imo way too young acting/described even for an immature boy his new age - which makes it rather difficult for me to buy into your portrayal here.

That's our Severus, snarky at any age! Loved it when he blasted the portrait. It's about time somebody called Dumbledore on his behavior. So this time can Sev actually go for his Dark Arts mastery? Potions may be his occupation, but he'd make a much more practical Dark Lord than Riddle's insecure self-hatred.
