Yeah.... Hermione's never gonna be the same after this.... I wouldn't be surprised if she tried a few more times.... I know I probably would in her situation....

Loved it! I've been waiting for an update. I feel so bad for Hermione, and after all this, the thing she seems most worried about is her job. But I can think of a certain pureblood wizard who could "engage" her several times a day...

Jeez, I'm really glad she didn't do it! This story freaks me out but it's really good. I'm really glad this kind of diagnosis doesn't happen any more (that I know about anyway) but it makes me sad for the times when it was common. Great job!

Story is getting worse and worse as it goes on. It isn't even TRYING to live in reality, where if the Muggle Minister heard about this crap, the Wizarding world would be on the cusp of a war between Muggles and Wizards.

All I can say is wow. I just found your story and read all eight chapters in one go. It is a barbaric and an incredibly powerful read. I can't wait for the next installment. I was astounded at the speed that things became so out of hand. That seemed very real to me.I have been in situations where things have turned bad and have thought to myself how did things go so bad so quickly. I am surprised that it took Draco so long to discover her though. I would think that Draco having been her healer would have at least asked after her. A few years ago I had read an old family medical book that was about 80 years old and came across "Hysteria" one day. I was stunned at the flippant way it was discussed. The suggested treatment had me just dumb founded. Its hard to believe that those types of "remedies" even existed at one time. I can't believe i didn't read this sooner. Well done!!!!

Came here via a rec on LJ's crack_broom. Such an intriguing story.

Very dark and disturbing - the most frightening of which was when Granger's mental state was so obviously unsettled by the 'treatment'. I really find it hard to imagine how anyone could have thought exposing depressed patients to such macabre methods of treatment could possibly work.

And what an egotistic, oppressive, ignorant bastard De Belleme is! How fightening that someone can take away all of your freedom and subject you to such horrific torture with no accountability! Draco maybe doesn't have the leverage to do more than he has, but geez I wish he did. I'd like to see De Belleme subjected to a long dose of his own treatment and have him thoroughly discredited before his book goes on sale. He deserves nothing less.

And to think, he's training *others* to follow in his footsteps!! For him, no fate is too awful.

Again, wonderful story! I look forward to more...

I have been following along with this story and your other WIP...you are a very talented writer! I thought that there were very few "dark" things I'd find difficult to read at this point, but this story has pushed me to my limit more than once. I am a graduate student in English and spend a lot of my focus on women's issues, particularly the fourteenth century through the Victorian Era, and while I more often than not encounter (a somewhat surprising) positive treatment of women in literature, I am often reminded of just how tenuous a woman's position was in those days. The great poets and authors were such thinkers that they are not terribly representative of the larger population. At any rate, I appreciate how you've characterized Draco - you have not made him the hero here (yet), so I am very interested to see if he persists in his belief that hysteria is a legitimate condition, if at least comes to realize that the system he participates in is indistinct from the one that tortured Hermione - that he is culpable by adding to it, even if he is doing it in a much more clinical, sterile fashion. I also hope that Harry will show up at some point, which brings me to my only potential criticism (potential because you haven't finished the story yet!). You insist that the wizarding world is archaic and their medical system is equally such, and I agree that this assessment seems in line with canon...however, many witches and wizards are Muggle-born, and would be modernized enough to be absolutely horrified that such abuse was taking place. Hermione herself was shocked by it, so it seems that anyone else who grew up with Muggles would also be equally aghast. You (well, Draco) did note that "hysteria" is usually found in Pureblooded witches, so I can see where no one who would question the practice would have encountered it. Thus, I am very eager to see what happens when Harry finds out, if the general public finds out, and if Hermione recovers well enough from her trauma to take up this cause in her typical unyielding, passionate manner. I look forward to reading more. :-)
