Hi Morph. Although you are correct that nothing is actually "said" about believing in the gods or Paganism, there is enough content to assume that there are some pagans in Harry Potter. For example a book entitled: "The Decline of Pagan Magic" was written by the celebrated magical historian, Bathilda Bagshot, on the lack of use of ancient Pagan Magic. So there must have been an audience for Pagan magic. The Harry Potter series is full of Greek/Roman references, Minerva (Athene) is the name of a goddess, Hagrid got Fluffy (Cerebus) from a "Greek chappie." Hermione is named after the daughter of King Menalus and Helen of Troy. The creature 'hippocampus' is mentioned in 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' pulled the chariot of Poseidon, the God of the sea. Argus Filch, the caretaker that watches over Hogwarts also has a mythic Greek background. Argus was a beast with a thousand eyes that kept watch over Princess Io for Hera.

So, there are enough inferences to (with a stretch of the imagination) include pagan references in an alternate universe HP fanfiction. It was not a mistake. I use the term quite frequently. My apologies if it threw you off the story but :::shrugs::: not every story is going to suit everyone. Thank you for your opinion. :)

Story lost me at Ron saying,"My gods" This is in very poor taste. Nowhere in HP is it even hinted that any character in HP is pagan.
Dreadful and unforgivable mistake on writer's part.

Ohhh I loved this one. Yes, the poor puffs always seem to get the raw end of the deal.

LOVE this story -- and the "quote" and the end. Don't know if it is a real quote, but it should be.

I really enjoyed this story of yours, Ms_Figg! It was nice to read about your theory concerning the house of Hufflepuff...the poor ones always got the bad end of the stick till now in terms of praise. Your characterization of Severus is (as always) down to a delicious T - even when he is not caught with his pants down *grin*. Thank you! :D

Brilliant writing and engaging story, as ever. I selfishly wish you'd make this into a longer story LOL but it works as a oneshot very well, too.

I was very thrilled to come across this little gem, especially on this website. I love your take on the Hufflepuffs, which are honestly not given much acknowledgement in the books and even the fandom. Sadly, most tend to classify them as the miscellaneous group. It is very refreshing to read a little drabble that pays so much attention to an issue that I have never truly seen addressed.

As far as the writing, I also believe you did a wonderful job in presenting this ideal version of the Hufflepuff house. After all, Snape's argument is very valid and well structured. I also thought his character was spot-on, and I liked that you also gave a glimpse of just what kind of Headmaster he would be (and I liked the view). With all of his own prejudices, and his problems, it makes sense that he would attempt to find ways to fix the problems that he sees, while also staying true to Dumbledore (and even adding in the dynamics of Dumbledore as a mentor).

Even though it was a very short writing, there was a great deal of punch packed in there. Its little stories like this that make you reconsider canon and the fandom. Thank you for sharing this. ^^

Very nicely written, and a very interesting concept. I like the analyzing part of it all.

However, I would rather see that you took the information from the books instead of from the films. The books are just better.

YAY! You are writing again!! :) this made my night of studying for my Psychology final SO much better!! :) I loved it, and I loved that you tied Cedric back into it. Even I sometimes immediantly think of Harry when the triwizard cup is mentioned, and the book and movie never go into detail about why Cedric was chosen. I love it!!

Great oneshot! It's one of the best I've read in some time. I wonder if Snape's admission will finally get the seventh years to stop thinking in terms of themselves and their own house's qualities like they've been doing for the past six years. Hopefully, it gets them to think that the other houses' qualities are just a great as theirs and brings the school together once and for all; because it seems the Final Battle didn't do it like it should have.

I agree about the Hufflepuffs getting the short end of the stick most of the time, it was nice to see something nice about them, especially from a source as unexpected and respected as Snape. Are you going to do a sequel about the outcomes of the essays they had to write, or the effect it had anyway?

Very well written, a very good Snape without oocness, and a very well deserved panegiric for the house of Hufflepuff. Congratulations.
