    To Remarkable:

    I can only speculate but I don't think Snape 'abandoned' Hogwarts or the wizarding world, he may well have done the best - and only - thing he could do in the situation to preserve Dumbledore's plan to defeat Riddle.

    Consider his options;

    (a) follow Riddle's orders and reveal Hermione's knowledge of the plan thus dooming the wizarding world - for if Voldemort knew his horcruxs were in danger he'd most likely protect them or make more.
    (b) reveal nothing, garnering Riddle's displeasure, be killed and not be able to pass the necessary info to Harry to defeat Riddle (i.e. The Prince's Tale).
    (c) do exactly as he has in the story and retain the possibility to get to Harry somehow and pass on the vital info.

    Also, the students have not been completely abandoned, the other teachers/order members would likely protect them as best they can. And I believe that for Snape ensuring Harry's able to defeat Riddle takes precedence over any of his other duties given to him by Dumbledore - Albus himself considered the greater good paramount except were Harry was concerned.

    Again this is all speculation and only the author can truly know the ins and outs of this story, but I think that Snape likely saved Hermione because he had the opportunity to do so whilst still continuing with Dumbledore's plan as best he could - not solely for Hermione's and/or his own sake. I could be proven wrong though.

    Ooooohhhh so sad! Heart rending! Makes you wonder .... the strength of conviction he had to give up Headmaster of the school? All the other students for the sake of one? Wow! And his wand too! These two things make me bite my nails in anticipation, wondering what is so special about Hermione Granger that he gave up everything for her. Not that he had much left, but to leave the rest of the school and the wizarding world in abandonment after all of his sacrifice is just incredible. I am really, really hoping there is an incredible plot twist here to justify all of this.

    and the rape.... of her virginity no less.... so awful and you can tell that he is torn but stoic, loathing of himself but a realist about the whole thing. He gives away nothing. I wish he could give her some assurances but then I guess he realizes that his words are shit to her after what he had to do to "save" her. In her defense, I can see that it doesn't seem like much but then Snape doesn't do anything lightly. He wouldn't have saved her if there wasn't a purpose. If it was a selfish purpose ... well... then there'd have to be an obsession or mental illness involved, see above premise.

    Gods so many possibilities here! can't wait for more!

    I'm a bit curious, if Severus was going to betray the Death Eaters in ten minutes anyway, why didn't he do it BEFORE defiling her? Unless he has some plan and they don't know it was a betrayal... It just seems like it would have saved a lot of time earning her trust. Anyhow, I'm sure you've got a plan, and I look forward to reading more!

    CC, there is more plot here than in some of your other stories. I like it, but I do miss your smut. I know, I can be hard to please. But I will continue reading this story as well as all of your others. You are a writer who has reached out and grabbed my attention and will not let go.

    So I await your next chapter and any other postings by you. Your enslaved reader!

    I follow your other stories, too. I really appreciate the in-character portrayals here, as dark as Severus is - he is not a bad person, but he is ill-equipped to offer sympathy or comfort, and you have illustrated that well. Too many other authors turn him into emo!Severus and I think there is a distinct and important difference between that and angst. If Severus didn't care at all, he would have let her die. He is mechanical, to a great extent...he does what must be done; he is at a great difficulty to try to reach within to do anything beyond that. I loved that she cut his hair, in an effort to take from him a small part of the vast well of what he took from her (and as someone with long, curly hair - ah! The pain at the thought!). Hermione is another thing - yes, she is in canon a logical girl...but even the most rational among us would shatter under the weight of what she endured. I am glad she hasn't "come around" to reason just quite yet and is still blinded by Severus' efforts to heal her by her trauma. It is very realistic, much more so than other fics in similar veins that I've encountered. I look forward to following you on this journey. :-)

    My God this gets better and better! For a moment I hated him while he was cutting her hair! I felt a tear slip from my own eye. He doesn't seem to realize he's taken something else from her, It's just hair to him. I wonder how she'll ever forgive him. Even if he did do all this to save her how do you forgive this. At this time I can understand why she wishes she was dead. What doesn't kill us only makes us stronger and hopefully Hermione will become a force to be reckoned with! Once again a fabulous chapter. You are truly a gifted writer!

    This is one intense story. I would say I like it, but somehow 'like' seems the wrong word. It kills me to see Hermione like that. So much has happened and is still happening. When I saw you had a new chapter, I was almost afraid to read it. I have read some dark stories, but this is dark in a whole different way. The rape was very bad, but what happens afterwards is very hard. Instead of truly escaping she is trapped with her rapist who tries to heal her with such barbaric means (well at least comparing it with magical means).
    Very well written story and very intense.

    Yes, this story is not for the faint of heart! But I have to tell you I think your storytelling is simply amazing! These first 3 chapters have had me on the edge of my seat griping the arm rest just to see what is going to happen next! I don't know how I feel about Severus at this point and Seeing Hermione like this is so difficult. Even though she would rather be dead now I just now she'll turn out stronger in the end!! I can't wait for chapter 4!

    its interesting to see how this story will change the outcome of the war against voldemort. I always enjoy to see how the relationship btw people will develop. the only problem i had was how you portrayed Draco cause in the book he was petrified when seeing things like torture. I know he wouldn't do anything to change the situation because he's a coward, but he wouldn't be outspoken by insulting the victim. Rather, i think he would be trying to withdraw from it as much as possible or disturbed by what is happening in front of him and unable to look away.
