I really enjoyed this story. It's well-written and well-plotted. Still, there was a minor thing that struck a raw nerve in me. When it mentioned that Snape was depressed the next description of it was sulking. That's painful to hear; it minimizes the suffering inherent in clinical depression, like the feeling nothing is going to get better, being numb, and the sheer self-loathing. I know it's just a detail but it carries unfortunate implications. Still, overall, well done.

I have just finished reading your story, which was a nice and pleasant experience.
I really liked the dark Harry and the plot was nice and simple. I didn't really understand the arguments for how Voldemort and the Horcruxes was dead and gone, and that there was still a fragment left in Harry. That didn't really make sense in my mind, but beside that fact, the story line was well put out.
I was a little worried about your warnings but I must say that it wasn't even nearly as bad as I though it was. Guess I have read much worse stories than yours. But still warnings are nice.
Your language and characters were nicely build and will an eye for extra details.
I will try to look into your other work when I have time.
    Thanks for the entertainment! Anne

i have spent the last few days reading this from start to finish.... it made for sleepless nights and work seem endless.... i just wanted to get back to the story. i really.... really enjoyed it. book 2 has a whole different flow to it. after the horrors of book one it was a relief. but such is life. it is the natural flow of things.

Just finished reading this fic for the first time and I just wanted to let you know that I really liked it. There are a lot of slavefics that abuse and overcome and then everything just fixes itself, and it was really nice to see one where the problems continued and sometimes could not be totally resolved. It was more real, and more potent. Thanks for the story!

Finished the story and enjoyed the journey. How could I not love it when we get redemption and happiness in the end? I appreciate the fact that the story spans a long time period and that acceptance and love didn't just happen (as if by magic) overnight. There are some things even magic cannot fix, only time and hope.

I have you bookmarked so that I can check your other stories. Keep writing!

When I started reading this, I never thought I would get so attached. This was so amazing. You have amazing talent. The plot and characterization was spectacular. I love how every single character had more and more feelings for the reader to discover. This was truly a story of a lifetime--several in fact. I am glad you were able to stick with it into Book 2, and give your readers a chance to watch the characters grow apart and then together again. I was moved to tears by the love, friendship, and sacrifice that was laid out so boldly. Your talent is amazing. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Just now hopping aboard the train here. Thank god, a good story. It's becoming increasingly hard for me to find anything that suits my taste. I tried to read a slave fic once, and it was full of love and happy fluff with Severus being so sweet and submissive. I can't imagine that ever happening. Finally, some angst, rape, and torture. You'd better not let me down! I love dark Harry Potter fics.

I just want to thank you for the pleasure your story gave me. I have re-read it several times, especially the second part. I am very glad that you decided to keep it; it might have made sense to just let Harry and Severus stay apart, but it would really have made me feel unhappy for them :D
    So, yeah, my review.
First, it's amazing the way you manage to write such, well, non-canon stories and keep everyone in character so well, especially Severus and Neville. I never felt that something the characters did was OOC.
Second, I love the humor. "Ashes..." is of course a dark and haunting story, but you manage to insert such great sarcastic and funny remarks that it is never overly dramatic and tragic.
Finally - and this is the most important thing - you have a very good understanding of psychology. Is it by any chance your speciality or are you just a thoughtful and understanding person? :)
Thank you again and I wish you good luck with your writing!
