~*Wotcher, Stranger*~
Tonks closed her eyes, exhausted. Her breath came in short quick pants as she lay her head down on the mattress. She opened her eyes and tried desperately to catch her breath. She felt a hand slide under her back and another around her neck. Her partner’s lips brushed her cheek as she whispered, “Shh,” before resting her head on Tonks’ shoulder and closing her eyes. Tonks finally got her breathing back to normal and glared down at the soft golden hair that cascaded down her own shoulder and that of the girl laying beside her. She inhaled deeply through her nose in an annoyed huff.
“I don’t need you to take care of me. I don’t need your encouragement and I don’t need you.” She slid out from under the girl’s soft body and stepped over the side of the bed and stood up. Her foot landed on a feather pillow that shifted under her weight and she would have fallen if it hadn’t been for the two solid arms that wrapped around her and pulled her back onto the mattress. Tonks closed her eyes as she felt the warmth of the other girl encircle her. She sighed, it was the warmth she had sought out since her second year at this damned school. She needed someone to love her, someone to care, but not anymore. Now she didn’t need anyone or anything. She would show them, everyone. The bullies and the teachers. And Rae. This was her last year here and she wasn’t going to take anything sitting down anymore.
“Have you ever thought that as much as you don’t need me…that I may need you?” Tonks could feel the blonde’s lips against the back of her neck as she spoke. She glared at the wall across from her.
“You know damn well you don’t need me, Rae, you’re just fine on your own so stop with the soppy bullshit.”
Tonks felt more than heard the sigh from the girl.
“Fine, if you want to be that way. But you know I’ll always be around if you do find that you need me,” she slid her hand up Tonks’ flat stomach and over her small breasts and lightly traced a circle along each pert nipple before both of her hands came to rest softly by the spikey haired girl’s left breast across her heart, “I’ll be right here.”
Tonks groaned, “Enough with that crap, are you ready for another go? We still have time before lights out.”
Ooh hey, yeah
Hush, just stop
There’s nothing you can do or say, baby
I’ve had enough
I’m not your property as from today, baby
You might think that I won't make it on my own
But now I’m…
Tonks tried to cough as she choked on the dirt that her face was currently thrust into. She struggled to get up but the jinx was still working. She could hear their footsteps surrounding her. ~I’m screwed~ she thought dismally. Their laughter was ringing in her ears.
“Awww what’s the matter, the little baby cant get up? Awww did my jinx hurt you when you fell? Awww poor clumsy filthy half-blood. Its your father who’s the Mudblood isn’t it?”
The effects of the jinx were wearing off, Tonks could wiggle her toes and move her face. Just a few more seconds and-
“Let her go!”
Tonks could hear everyone turn to face Rae.
“And what are you gonna do about it, Sahar?”
Tonks could move her whole head now so she twisted her head around to see what was going on. She saw Raeleigh raise her wand and smirk.
“I guess you’ll just have to wait and see won’t you?”
Apparently the Slytherin girls didn’t want to wait and see because they took off down the corridor. Rae performed the counter curse with a graceful wave of her wand and smiled brightly at Tonks.
“It’s a good thing I showed up, Merlin only knows what they would have done to you.” She reached down and helped Tonks to her feet and ran a finger through her shoulder length blood red hair fondly. Tonks glared at her.
“I didn’t need your help, I had it under control. Why do you always show up and save my ass anyway? I’ve never asked for your help!” Tonks could feel her voice crack as tears began to flow inside her eyes, threatening to spill out, “You always just show up, don’t you think I can take care of myself?!” the tears spilled over her long dark lashes and ran down her soft pale cheeks, “Its bad enough that people do this to me without you showing up and being all great and making me look like an incompetent fool! IS THAT WHAT YOU THINK I AM?! SOME LITTLE KID YOU HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF? WELL I’M NOT AND I DON’T NEED YOU OKAY? JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!”
Stronger than yesterday
Now it’s nothing but my way
My loneliness ain’t killing me no more
I, I’m stronger
“Now that really wasn’t fair of Professor McGonagall to dock you points, its not your fault you’re a klutz.” a fellow fourth year Gryffindor said as they walked out of Transfiguration. Tonks shrugged.
“I don’t really care…” she said quietly. The truth is she didn’t, what was ten points? She was always getting punished in some way for her clumsiness and its not like it was her fault. She wouldn’t be so damned clumsy if it wasn’t for the ‘gift’ that she had.
The disgruntled fourteen year old ran her hands through her short black hair and sighed. Some people would indeed call being a Metamorphmagus a gift, but it didn’t come without sacrifice. First of all, it hurt a lot to change her bone structure and muscle. Secondly if your body is constantly changing how can you keep up with it? How are you supposed to know which way your feet will land or how long your legs are if they never land the same way and are never the same length twice? Thirdly its hard enough to figure out who you are once you hit puberty because your body is changing so much…how are you supposed to know who you are if you never stop changing? You don’t…you’d never figure out who you are.
“Hmm well if I were you I’d be mad.” the girl gave Tonks a small wave, “Well I have to hurry to the library, I want to get some homework done before next class, see ya!” and with that the girl turned down another corridor and vanished out of sight.
Tonks smiled to herself as she walked down toward the Great Hall for lunch. Yeah, a lot of people sweat the small stuff but she found that if she just went with the flow and didn’t make a big deal of it then she’d come off better in the end, besides she was used to getting worse for the wear. It was the story of her life, she just didn’t really care about herself. She tried to be nice to everyone, sure in some cases that got her walked all over like a doormat, but at least she still had people who’d remember she was nice to them and then maybe she’d have more friends.
Than I ever thought that I could be, baby
I used to go with the flow
Didn’t really care ‘bout me
You might think that I can’t take it, but you’re wrong
‘Cause now I’m
Andromeda sighed and rolled her eyes as she heard a loud crash from the living room. She set down the potion book she was reading and put her hands on her hips and walked into the living room.
“Nymphadora!” her eyes popped and her chest puffed out, “I told you not to play by the china!”
Nymphadora Tonks looked up mournfully at her mum and then back to the shattered china. “I’m sorry Mummy…” she mumbled. Andromeda sighed and guided her only child away from the shards of what had once been her favourite bone china collection, and patted her shoulder.
“Its alright I suppose, you didn’t cut yourself did you…?” she inspected the small child and sure enough there was a small piece of glass embedded in her daughter’s thumb. Nymphadora raised her sore thumb to her mouth to suck on it, but Andromeda stopped her.
“Don’t do that, Nymphadora, how many times do I have to tell you before you’ll listen? You could get it infected and then I’d have a right time trying to fix you up. Come over here.”
She led Nymphadora into the kitchen and repaired the wound and an instant with her wand.
“What am I going to do with you? I can just see myself taking care of you until you’re old and grey…”
Stronger than yesterday
Now it’s nothing but my way
My loneliness ain’t killing me no more
I, I’m stronger
Come on, now
Oh, yeah
Tonks looked straight into those honey coloured eyes and glared defiantly. All she got in return was warmth. It drove her crazy. She was sick of Raeleigh always insisting that she could take care of Tonks forever. ~I don’t need someone to take care of me, especially not her!~ Tonks thought. It was the last week of her last year at Hogwarts and she planned on letting Rae know the truth, that she, Tonks, could take care of herself just fine. She watched Rae’s face break out into a warm smile as she lightly stroked Tonks’ cheek before whispering “I love you.”
“Well I don’t love you.” Tonks replied coldly. She knew it was cruel but how else could she get the message across? Raeleigh never left her alone, whenever Tonks felt alone she was always there but Tonks had to let her know that she shouldn’t be there anymore. Tonks needed to be on her own.
The blonde’s eyes swam with tears and she let her hand fall to her side.
“I guess it’s for the best then, because I’m going to Canada and I don’t know when I’ll be back…” Her voice trembled and then broke off and she stared at the ground. Tonks nodded.
“It is for the best.”
Here I go, on my own
I don’t need nobody, better off alone
Here I go, on my own now
I don’t need nobody, not anybody
Here I go, alright, here I go
Tonks’ face broke out into a huge grin as she read the letter she had just received by owl.
“I did it,” she said confidently, “I’m an Auror!”
She did show them, everyone who believed she couldn’t make it on her own, here she was on her own and an Auror at that!
Stronger than yesterday
Now it’s nothing but my way
My loneliness ain’t killing me no more
I, I’m stronger
Stronger than yesterday
Now it’s nothing but my way
My loneliness ain’t killing me no more
I, I’m stronger
Stronger than yesterday
Now it’s nothing but my way
My loneliness ain’t killing me no more
I, I’m stronger
