Disclaimer: I do not own any of the Harry Potter
characters, locations, or creatures created by J.K. Rowling. There is an
original character that is mine, some fake spells and such, and, of course, the
plot is mine.
A/N: Hello everyone who has chosen to read this!
This story involves an OFC who is working undercover for Dumbledore and what
was happening behind the scenes of what we read in the fifth book. From there
it progresses into a trip back through time and the consequences that come from
it. This is plot intensive and I’m estimating that it will be very long since
I was originally going to break it into 4 parts. The 4 sections will still be
marked off, but I’m going to keep it all under one post for easier access. In
order for this series to go the way I want it to, the final chapter of part one
will actually contain some text from the OoTP. Therefore, if you haven’t read
the fifth book there is a BIG spoiler in this story. You have been warned,
mmmwwwahhhhahahhhaha! My original character will be paired off with a few
different people, but the story also focuses on her relationship with Hermione
and also a pairing of Hermione and Remus both in the past and the ‘present’ of Potterverse.
There will eventually be a little James and Lilly and Harry and Ginny. Please don’t
knock me for all the time I put into my OC. I use my time writing fanfiction
to work on character development so almost all my pieces have original
characters. Also, for this same reason I really like reviews so that I have an
idea on what needs work in my technique. Okay folks here’s Beyond the Veil of
Time, please Read, Review, and enjoy!

Prologue: The Way it All Begins
August 2nd, 1995
Severus Snape stood on one side of
the kitchen in 12 Grimmauld Place glaring hard at the two men who stood
opposite of him. Black and Lupin were a burning reminder of all the things he
hated in his life, all the choices that had gone wrong. They were awaiting the
arrival of Albus Dumbledore who apparently had urgent news to share with them.
Severus had his suspicions as to what the news would be, but he was certain
that the two Marauders in front of him were too thick to have figured it out.
“What are you scowling at, Snape?
It’s not my fault that you’re here,” Black growled.
Severus sneered and turned to
stare at the door leading to the hall willing Albus to move his meddling arse
and arrive.
“What’s the matter, Snivellus?
Afraid without your keeper here to protect you.”
Severus was about to raise his
wand but he caught Lupin’s movement out of the corner of his eye. “Sirius,
please refrain from antagonizing him.”
Once again, the werewolf had
stepped in on his behalf, but where was that kindness when it would have
counted? No, there was nothing that these men could do to redeem themselves to
Severus even if they wanted too.
The kitchen door swung open then
and Albus hurried in and motioned for them to sit around the table. “I’m sorry
to have kept you waiting. There was an incident with Harry that needed
attention.”
“And what did Potter get himself
into this time,” Severus said with a scowl. Leave it to the Boy-Who-Lived to
interfere with his time even when he was not physically present.
“Apparently he and his cousin were
attacked by dementors, but that isn’t why we’re here,” Albus said with a look
that told them all to refrain from questioning him further. “I must prepare to
deal with the ministry so I’ll make this brief. Its time for Alice to arrive
and we all work to keep ourselves and the other members of the Order in line in
her presence. We all know that there is a great deal of information that will
have to be withheld from her and that we will have to control our reactions to
her.”
Severus smirked as he watched
Albus give Black a pointed look. Of course, that smirk quickly disappeared
when the look was transferred to him. “I’m fully capable of acting the part,
Albus.”
“I doubt I’ll be seeing much of
her,” Black said with a shrug. Severus knew he was trying to act as if it
wasn’t important, but he wasn’t fooled.
“Don’t even try to act like this
isn’t going to affect you, Black,” Severus snapped.
Black jumped up, knocking his
chair backwards. “Oh, and I suppose you’ll just be perfectly happy treating
her like dirt, the same way you do Harry.”
“Enough, gentlemen,” Albus said in
a soft, but commanding tone. “For Alice’s sake we must treat her as we would
any other newcomer.”
“How long will it be, Albus,”
Lupin asked softly and Severus just glared at him. Where did he get off
thinking he deserved that kind of information? Honestly! He was supposed to
be the smart one out of those four rejects.
Albus sighed and there was a sad,
tired look in his eyes. “I am the only one who can be burdened with that
information, Remus. Only the most prudent facts were given to me to begin
with. This is sticky business and people’s lives and futures are at stake.”
“So this is how it all begins,”
Black said in a harsh whisper. “Four men sitting around deciding to do
nothing.”
As horrid as it was to agree with
Black, Severus felt the need to share his sentiment. “We could end all this
ridiculousness right here.”
Surprisingly it was the werewolf
who answered that. “This is the way her life was meant to go. We have no
right to stop or alter the way things were meant to be. Time is a tricky thing
and we can’t know what might go wrong.”
“Yes, you must prepare the
others.” Albus stood, looking like he was about to leave. “I must hurry to
deal with Harry’s dementer problem. Have a good night.”
Severus watched Albus leave and
then hurried to follow suit. He was halted at the door when Black grabbed his
arm. “Just stay away from her, Snivellus. You’re going to do enough damage to
her as it is.”
Severus jerked his arm away. “As
will you, Black,” he hissed and then marched out the door. As he made his way
outside to apparate back to Hogwarts, Black’s words echoed through his mind. So
this is how it all begins.
