Harry figured this probably wasn’t the best time to talk to Hermoine--seeing as how she was frantically shaking her head at him and kept motioning for him to leave the common room. He tilted his head at her. Why did she look so frightened?
At that moment, a book sailed past his face. Dodging back just in time to miss it clipping his nose, Harry turned to see where it came from. All he saw, though, was someone’s trouser-covered arse waving in the air as they dug through all of Hermoine’s personal items.
“I know it’s in here.” Harry recognized Ron’s voice. “I’ve seen you look at it, I know you’ve been reading it--a-ha!” Ron sat up abruptly, holding a thin, gray spiral-bound notebook in his hands. Harry felt his heart sink into his stomach with a dull thud.
Hermoine stopped waving long enough to lunge at Ron. “Give it back! It doesn’t concern you!’
Ron looked affronted. “Your sordid little fantasies don’t concern me?” Hermoine flushed and pushed a piece of hair behind her ear. Frowning, Ron opened to a random page. “We’ll see about that.”
“No!” Faster than Harry could see, the notebook had left Ron’s hands and was now behind Hermoine’s back. The pit in Harry’s stomach lessened somewhat, but as long as the notebook was out, then his secret was not safe. He glanced around the room. Everyone was still absorbed in their own personal conversations.
Working up the courage to speak, Harry said, “Well, Hermoine, looks like I’m going to have competition if you ever decide to try for Seeker.”
Ron jumped up and stomped towards Harry. “You’ll never believe what Hermoine’s been writing.” He shot her a filthy look. “She thinks Malfoy is cute.”
Tread carefully. Harry thought. Must get the notebook. Must get away. “Er…Malfoy?” He panicked. Apparently Ron had read enough to know who was the subject, but not enough to realize that--
“Honestly, Ron.” Hermoine opened to a dog-eared page and began to drag her finger down as if searching for a certain passage.
Oh no, Harry thought. She’s going to read the--
Her shrill voice cut through his thoughts, “And it was then that he threw me up against the wall and grabbed both of my wrists and pressed them above my head. He whispered a binding spell, attaching me to the wall, and slithered down my naked chest. I want to wrap you up in silver and green, Draco said as he began to undo the buttons of my jeans. I want to keep you by my bed with a collar that says MINE across it and use you whenever I feel the need. He pulled down my underwear and took a hold of my thick cock which was hard and leaking pre-come for him.”
As she read, her voice became deeper and more melodious. Harry could almost see the vision in front of him, and maybe so could Ron if his slack-jawed look was anything to go by.
“You said cock.” Ron sputtered before she could continue reading. “My Hermoine said cock.”
“Do you want me to finish?”
Harry was blushing furiously in the corner of the room. “I think we get the picture.”
She threw him an apologetic look before closing the notebook. “It can’t be mine because I don’t have a co-”
“Don’t say it!” Ron shouted. “I can’t handle my girlfriend saying cock!”
“Oh please, with what we’ve already done--”
“Hermoine!” Ron looked scandalized and he glanced around the common room, noticing that people were beginning to stare. “Shut up.”
“Yeah, Hermoine,” Harry said a little more forcefully. “Do shut up.”
“What’ve you got there?” Seamus had come in from behind Harry and moved to grab the notebook.
Hermoine jerked backwards. “Leave it! There’s no reason to get worked up about--”
“A fantasy book about Malfoy!” Ron crossed his arms and glared over towards Seamus. “She writes sex stories about Malfoy and…and…”
“Another boy?” Hermoine arched an eyebrow. “Why would I fantasize--on second thought, it does make some sense. In an aesthetic sort of way, of course, not that I have ever thought about--” She cut herself off. “The point is not that it’s two men, but that it is not my notebook. I’m keeping it for someone who doesn’t want their personal thoughts shouted all over the place.”
Throughout the tirade, Harry had slunk closer and closer towards the portrait hole, trying as hard as he could to remain unnoticed and to get out of there as fast as possible. It was working until a hand clamped down on his shoulders. Harry yelped.
“Hey now, what’s this?” Dean Thomas must have slipped by when Seamus joined the conversation. Harry looked over Dean’s shoulder to see if they were the only people there. Thank god the twins left, Harry thought. I’d never live it down.
“Seems like Hermoine’s keeping diaries for people that are embarrassed about fantasizing of slimy, pasty-faced, spoiled, melodramatic, utterly evil--”
“Malfoy.” Seamus interrupted. “There’s a diary that probably some silly, little fourth year girl has been writing fantasies in.”
“That’s just it!” Hermoine shouted. “It’s not a girl’s notebook! It’s a boy’s! It’s…I mean to say that I have promised not to tell.”
“Yeah,” Harry nodded his head in what he hoped wasn’t a desperate manner. “A secret’s a secret, don’t force her to say anything and for the love of god don’t make her read any more.”
Ron shuddered theatrically. “Bloody hell, I agree. That’s something that I want obliviated. Immediately.”
“It wasn’t that bad.” Someone near the fireplace called out.
“Please tell me,” Ron said slowly. “That isn’t my baby sister listening to horrible, horrible smut involving that rat, that bloody ferret, that--”
“We get it, Ron. You don’t like Malfoy.” Ginny stood and made a show of flipping her hair. She moved closer to the portrait hole, one hand poised over the handle. “Although he is rather cute, don’t you think?” Before Ron could yell at her, Ginny threw open the door and tried to leave. Only there was a rather bewildered looking Crabbe and Goyle standing in the way.
“Er…” Crabbe said, holding out a few pieces of parchment in front of him. “We’re here to see Hermoine.”
“Crabbe! Darling!” Hermoine flew past a gob-smacked Ron, Dean, Seamus and Harry, and wrapped her arms around Crabbe’s neck. “I have been keeping it a secret as long as possible, but it seems some people,” She looked over her shoulder at Ron. “Have no place for tact.” She grabbed the parchment and handed Crabbe the notebook.
Crabbe looked down and held the journal up with his meaty hands. “Thanks?”
“Just, be sure and keep it out of sight next time, all right?” Hermoine made a funny movement with her eyebrows and Crabbe nodded. She patted him on the shoulder. “Next week then.” She shut the door.
Oh my god, Crabbe has the notebook. Oh. My. GOD. CRABBE LIVES WITH DRACO. Harry thought he was panicked before, but this new fluttery holy-shit-I’m-going-to-die-if-anyone-finds-out feeling that was making him slightly light-headed and a little woozy gave an entire new meaning to panic. He wished the floor was melting so that he could sink through and just become a part of the walls forever. Anything would be better than this.
Seamus and Dean had begun to howl with laughter at this entire display, but Ron was fuming so horrendously that Harry was surprised that his head hadn’t exploded.
“Hold on. Let me recount what has just been made clear. Crabbe,” Ron pointed at the portrait hole. “Has been writing sex fantasies, explicit sex fantasies, about Malfoy. Draco Malfoy.”
Hermoine looked smug. “Oh, I don’t know. I haven’t read them all, but there was one titled Lucius--”
Ron threw his hands over his ears. “Shut up!”
“And there might have been a Weasley one, but I didn’t catch the first name--”
Ron ran out of the room, followed closely by Hermoine. Ginny was standing at the doorway looking as though she wasn’t sure which direction she should go in to spread the glorious news. Harry settled for collapsing in a chair and putting his face in his hands. At least no one knows.
Yet.
**********
Vincent Crabbe really had no clue as to what was going on. He had come here--to the Gryffindor’s Common Room, enemy territory--he had come here out of duress. Well, ok, out of terror of failing potions and facing Draco’s anger when he was left by himself among all the other Gryffindors.
Hermoine was supposed to go over his parchment; she really wasn’t all bad once you got to know her. Not that he knew her that well, just enough so that she could help boost his grade. But she had shoved a notebook into his hand and slammed the door in his face.
And she’d called him Darling.
“What was that all about, Vincent?” Vincent looked up and saw Greg standing there with a murderous look on his face. Either that, or he was hungry.
“I haven’t got a clue.” He looked down at the notebook. It had the words Don’t let out of sight written on the cover in a silver paint. “Maybe this has something to do with it.”
Greg glared and grabbed the book. He flipped open to a random page. “He grabbed both of our cocks together and began to stroke in an infuriatingly--yet tantalizing--slow manner.” Greg spoke in a perfectly flat voice. “Vince, you are writing fantasies about Draco!”
“I am not!” Vincent turned to walk away, but the staircase had moved from the platform. Huffing, he sat down. “I didn’t write in that diary, I don’t know why Hermoine gave it to me. She’s supposed to help me out with potions, not make it seem like I’m queer.”
“But you are queer.” Greg sat down beside him and nudged him with a beefy elbow.
“Yeah.” Vincent leaned over and rested his head on top of Greg’s shoulder. “Wanna shag?”
“I don’t know, Draco sounds like stiff competition.”
Vincent rolled his eyes. “I didn’t write in that--”
Greg nodded. “Fine. I believe you. We should get this to Draco before we forget, and plus it might actually be his. You know how self-obsessed he is.”
“Right.” The staircase lodged into place, and they both stood up and began to walk back to the corridor. Vincent bit his lip and brushed a few strands of mud-colored hair out of his eyes. “We’re doing it on your bed. Mine still makes that odd squeaky noise and it throws me off whenever there’s a rhythm.”
There was a moment or two of silence before Greg snickered. “Maybe that’ll teach you to catch your breath before casting charms. Although it is quite funny to see you hit the floor when the bed gets irritated.”
Vincent muttered something about how it wouldn’t be so funny when they got thrown off together and hurt sensitive bits of flesh, but Greg shut him up with a chaste kiss. Walking side by rather large side, they made their way to the Slytherin common room.
************
Harry was freaking out.
Ron and Hermoine had gone, no doubt to try out one of the fantasies that Hermoine was apparently well acquainted with--see if he ever trusted her again. Seamus, Dean and Ginny had all gone separate ways, and now Harry was alone in the common room. He leaned against the portrait hole.
Furrowing his brow, Harry pressed his ear up to the door and yes, he could definitely hear people talking. Was that Crabbe? Goyle? Seems like they haven’t left yet, Harry mused. Maybe I’ve got time.
The conversation was fading and Harry floundered for a moment; he didn’t know whether to follow the two back to the Slytherin common room, maybe distract them enough to grab the notebook, or if he should go run and get the invisibility cloak and hope that they were extremely slow walkers.
Words were becoming fainter, people were milling about the room, and Harry was suddenly struck with how conspicuous it was that he was standing with his ear stuck to the wall. He pulled away and opened the door, intent on following the two and stop them from ruining his life.
