October 1978, Hogwarts: School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
Professor Severus Malfoy’s
office
A
month had passed since Lucius’ departure, and Severus was feeling it and
looking it as well. He was just a few days short of being two months pregnant.
Dumbledore had inquired on one too many occasions about his health, and as
always Severus simply stated that he was fine.
But
in actuality he wasn’t. Severus was miserable aside from the morning sickness
that has been plaguing him. He missed his
husband and on top of everything Lucius sent one letter to inform him of that Voldemort was planning on taking out some of his top
opposition, and didn’t have any idea of when that would happened. Also,
Dumbledore should be concerned about his pet Gryffindors, James, Sirius, and
Lily, for whatever reason they were at the center of
the Dark Lord’s ire.
However,
an absent spouse was the least of Severus concerns. Lord Felix had once again
stepped into the limelight since Lucius’s departure.
Sitting
at his desk in his office, Severus was marking Second year’s exams when a knock
on his chamber door broke his concentration, which was just as well, the poor
Hufflepuff didn’t have one spot on the four-page parchment that was not heavily
marked.
With a wave of his wand, Severus opened
the door. He just didn’t have the energy to make the trek to the door.
“Had
I known it was you, Felix, I would have not opened it. What do you want?”
The
pure-blood smirked and sat down in the chair next to the younger wizard taking
in the surrounding area of lethal bottled potions and jarred specimens. He
spotted a simmering brew of something or other in a cauldron behind Severus’
desk.
“Why … to see how you are doing?”
Severus
scoffed as he rose to stir the cooking mixture then he snuffed out the fire and
gave his guest his attention. “As you can see I’m doing quite well. What do you
really want? And don’t tell me that
you’re concerned because I know otherwise.”
“I’m
crushed Severus that you would even say such a thing. No, actually I’m here to
let you know that there is an Order meeting tonight. Apparently, Sirius has
some urgent news on recent Death Eater activity. From what I gather the Dark
Lord has been targeting certain individuals and families who have been openly
opposing Him and it seems that a certain wizard has been leading the troops.”
Severus
stared at his ex-boyfriend in anger. “How dare
you come here-” but he caught himself before his temper became explosive. He
already had a light sheen of sweat on his face from the strain of maintaining
the Concealment charm and he couldn’t chance loosing control in front of Felix.
“Please
just go, I have work that I need to finish before the meeting. Thank you for
informing me,” Severus ground out calmly.
The older wizard noticed that something
was wrong with the Potions master but made no comment. Felix stood getting
ready to take his leave.
“I’m
not the enemy, Severus, you know. I just don’t want to see your heart broken.”
“Get
out you self righteous bastard! I have neither the time nor the patience to
listen to any tales of woe from you when not that long ago you were doing just
the opposite,” Severus spat.
“Now,
Severus be reasonable,” Felix pleaded back stepping a
few paces. Somehow, Severus was being moody and Felix knew by the mean glint in
the onyx orbs that he had over stayed his welcome.
“I am being reasonable by not hexing your
arse. However, if you continue on the course that you are pursuing in regards
to my husband, trust me when I say that the trip to Azkaban will be well worth
it! Now, get the hell out.”
Felix
fled like the wind, slamming the door behind him. Severus sunk into his chair.
Taking a deep shuddering breath he did the only thing that the moment called
for – he balled his eyes out.

Headmaster’s office,
half-hour later
“I’m telling you Albus, Severus was ready
to kill me.”
“Well,
Felix it would have served you right. Snape’s been in a pissy mode of late.
Even I’ve been avoiding him. He’s up to something.”
“Gentlemen,
please,” the headmaster interrupted. “Severus has been under a lot of stress
because of his husband’s absence, but yes Sirius, I do believe something is
going on with him.” Dumbledore turned to his lieutenant. “I believe Sirius that
I must utilize your Animagus skills.”
“I
got a better idea Headmaster, but I can’t say at the moment. Give me a couple
of days,” Sirius replied before standing up and stretching.
“Okay,
gentlemen, until this evening please take care.”
Once
outside Dumbledore’s office Sirius was about to part ways with his companion
when Felix grabbed his arm.
“I
never did care much for you Black after that stunt you pulled that almost
killed Severus.”
“Yeah, so?”
“Whatever
hair-brained
scheme you got hatching involving him better not do unjust harm or I promise
you, you will regret it,” Felix threatened.
Sirius
looked hard into deep forest green eyes, his own widening with realization.
“You’re in love with him.”
Felix
said nothing.
“You
know that lusting after another man’s husband is a sin. So, now that Malfoy is
away are you planning on wriggling your way back into Snape’s life? What’s the
deal with you two anyway?”
“That
is none of your business but I mean what I say: any harm that befalls him will prove fatal to you.”
Felix
let go and walked away. Sirius stared at the retreating back of the other
pure-blood and smiled. /Well, well,
Snivellous, you have a fan club. I didn’t know that you were that popular. I
wonder if Lucius knows?/
The
former Gryffindor left the quiet hallway in search of his lover.

Wiltshire, South-west England, Malfoy Manor
Dust
particles floated lazily in the air around the manor. Not a single soul had
been walking through the stately home since the Lords left over two months previously. However, this was
not the case now, a dark
haired figure stood
tall in the foyer taking in his surroundings.
Voices
seemed to call out to him. Memories of walking
through the door for the first time sprung into his mind as well as the one last
time, but he didn’t want to dwell on that, not
now at least. He was here for something else.
Walking
briskly through the stillness the wizard paused at the double set of ornate
doors leading into the library. He could have used the one at Hogwarts but he didn’t want gossip flying
around the school. Meanwhile, he could trust Madame Pomfrey not
to open her mouth because of the confidentially clause between patient and medi-staff, so he was safe for the
moment.
Severus
searched the vast collection of books on male pregnancy. He hoped that he would
be able find something that could explain the
advancement of his condition.
After
an hour of tossing books over his shoulder he
found a tome that looked promising – What
to expect when you’re a Wizard by Vladi Wittmere.
Another
hour passed by before Severus nearly fell over at the information that he just
read. /There…this must be wrong/
A
house-elf popped into the library nearly unnerving Severus. “Sir,
good to have yous here. Would yous be needing
something, sir?”
“Yes,
please inform the others that I will be here for some time
and would like to have the manor back into a liveable state. Also, I’m expecting
my husband’s personal attendant, do inform me of his arrival,” Severus
instructed before heading into the kitchen. He needed some food and rest before
dealing with the Order and Black.

Wales, Riddle estate
Silver
metallic orbs stared unseeingly at the brown mouldy wall. Wallpaper hung in
frail tattered stripes on the three walls around him. Black cracks crept to the ceiling like a spider’s web. The room was
chilled by the morning.
Lucius
pondered on his husband’s strange behaviour. When they were together last
Severus had seemed
preoccupied with something.
He
sent Severus a message telling him about what he was doing, as Lucius was taking
a big chance. The excuse he told the Dark Lord was that he was concerned for
his spouse and wished to have someone near to keep a close eye on the newly
wedded Malfoy. Luckily, the Dark Lord did allow Lucius to contact Nickolas in Egypt.
He
was quite anxious to find out what was going on with Severus. His husband was
very vague in his recent letter. Fortunately, his long time friend responded
back with thrilling news.
I am glad that
you are doing well Master Malfoy. I apologize for not being in attendance for
your wedding but the work here has been extremely hectic. I am pleased to
inform you that your husband has requested my presence as soon as possible. For
what reasons, I am unsure. Though I must say his missive was quite a shock.
I will keep an
eye out on him and report anything out of the ordinary. I hope you are fairing
well.
Take care and be
safe.
Your friend,
Nickolas
/What are you up to Severus?/ Lucius thought
as he got up for his next congregation of his Master’s minions.
