Title: Black Days Ahead (Temporary Title)
Author: Also Known As R.A.B.
Summary:
Harry, Ron and Hermione are tired of being kept out of the loop by the Order.
The adults refuse to treat them as equals and allow them to help in the fight
against Voldemort and his followers. So they take matters into their own hands,
recalling Dumbledore's Army to take on a threat bigger than Dolores Umbridge-
the Dark Lord.
Author's Note: Wee...sounds like drivel yeah. But heh. What
its really about is the 'kids' fighting back and helping even though the Order
seems adamant that they stay out of the fight for as long as possible. All of
the traditional characters as well as those who have been used by JK to fill
space or a name roster. Harry, Hermione, Ron, Ginny etc.
Pairings: Ron/Hermione, Harry/OFC, Remus/Tonks etc
IF YOU WANT PWP THIS IS NOT IT. STORY HAS ACTUAL PLOT WITH
BONUS 'ADULT SCENES' WHEN THE PLOT CALLS FOR IT.
Harry woke with his most frequent companion- a heavy ache
in the lightening shaped scar that graced his forehead. Since Voldemort’s
return he had grown used to the near un-lifting pain in his head.
The Order had lost all faith in Harry’s being safe with
his aunt and uncle. Too frequent now were the attacks on muggles in the bright
of day. Harry, as well as Hermione and her parents and been moved permanently to
the Burrow and Grimmauld Place.
Summer was proving the most dangerous time for both magic
and muggle kind alike. The Order doubted that many would return to school in the
fall, many out of fear for their lives and others out of loss of life.
Harry sighed and pulled himself from his bed and adjusted
his eyes to the early morning light. Reaching blindly for his glasses Harry’s
hand came in contact with something warm, soft and round.
Frowning he traced the object with his fingertips trying to
determine what the soft, warm blur before him was.
“Done copping a feel yet Harry?” Harry jumped at the
sudden lilting voice on Ginerva Weasey. Pulling back his hand he found his
glasses and slammed them onto his nose.
In front of him stood a very amused looking Ginny, the blur
before his the jumper covering her suddenly painfully obvious bosom. Harry paled
and then reddened.
“I am so sorry Gin’, god, I feel like I just copped a
feel of my sister.” Harry said shaking the image from his head. Ginny’s
smile faded slightly.
“Don’t worry about it. I was just coming to wake you.
Ron woke up early and if you don’t get down there soon, he’ll eat the whole
bloody kitchen.”
Harry nodded, not noticing Ginny’s sullen attitude as she
stalked out of the room. Giving his forehead a final rub Harry moved to pull on
the bright emerald jumper Mrs. Weasely had given him last Christmas before
making his way down stairs.
--
“Morning everyone,” Harry yawned as he jumped the last
few stairs into the kitchen.
The entire Weasley family (minus Percy) was assembled at
the table, as well as the Grangers (deep in conversation with an enthralled Mr.
Weasley), Remus, Tonks and to Harry’s surprise- Severus Snape.
“Morning Harry dear. Why don’t you get some food before
Ronald and the other boys wolf it all down.” Mrs. Weasley said warmly as she
placed a fresh plate of bacon and eggs on the table.
Harry sat down with a smile as he watched Ron gobble down a
pancake in one breath. Hermione watched the sight with disapproval, shaking her
head at Ron’s poor table manners.
“What were you up to last night Harry? You must not have
gotten to sleep until late if you slept in so long,” Fred said, wiggling his
eyebrows suggestively.
“Exercising your wrists and all?” George added in case
any one missed the point.
“Fred! George!” Mrs. Weasley yelled, turning red as she
tried to offer apology to the Grangers.
“What? We were talking about practicing with his wand!”
Fred replied acting as though he were wounded.
“Really woman, what a dirty mind you have!” George
agreed. Harry laughed at Mrs. Weasley’s shocked face.
“What time is it any way?” Harry asked, taking a bite
of his eggs.
“11:16 precisely,” Hermione replied.
“Oh dear, I must be going. Perhaps we can continue this
conversation on the precise function of a Rubber Ducky when I return Mr. and
Mrs. Granger?” Mr. Weasley received a nod from Hermione’s parents and stood
smiling.
“Where are you off to Arthur? It’s a Saturday, have
they revoked your day off?” Mrs. Weasley said with a frown.
“Hmm? Oh no, a friend of mine at the Department of
Logistics and Methods wanted to speak with me- I promised to meet her for lunch.
I’ll be back before dinner,” Arthur said giving his wife a kiss.
Calls of ‘bye dad’ followed him out the door as he
rushed to make his lunch meeting.
“Oh dear, we should be going to or we will miss our
meeting!” Tonks said, looking at her own watch (which read “You are
late!”). Remus nodded, wiping his mouth with his napkin and placing it on the
table.
Harry looked up, eyebrows furrowed.
“Where are you going then?” He asked. Remus glanced at
him.
“Hmm? Oh, Order meeting. Mrs. Weasley will be here to
look after you, and Shacklebolt will be coming through in a moment as well,”
Remus nodded.
“Why can’t we come to the meeting? We’re of age now,
or nearly,” he said indicating Hermione who wouldn’t turn 17 until a few
weeks after term.
“You’re still too young, you shouldn’t even be
concerning yourself with this Harry,” Remus said carefully. Harry frowned.
“What do you mean, shouldn’t concern myself? I have to
concern myself that Voldemort is back, that he’s killing people- but I
shouldn’t worry about knowing exactly what is happening?” Harry yelled.
“I don’t have time to have this conversation with you
Harry, I will be back later,” Remus said shaking his head and ushering Tonks
out of the room.
--
Remus and Tonks didn’t return until late that night, and
when they did Harry was still fuming and had no desire to speak to either of
them. After breakfast he had expected Hermione to scold him for his outbreak but
she told him she agreed whole heartedly.
Both Ron and Ginny found the whole situation as unfair as
well. The Order had been even more secretive lately, purposely having their
meetings away from the teenagers and away from Fred and George’s extendable
ears.
“Its bullocks it is. We have every right to know exactly
what’s going on. They are as bad as Fudge nowadays, only letting us know what
they think we ought instead of the whole truth.” Hermione sighed.
“At least you lot only have a year to go at Hogwarts-
then they have to let you into the Order. I have two more years to go before
they’ll let me in on it,” Ginny grumbled. “I guess I am old enough to be
controlled by Tom Riddle but not old enough to be let in on what is being done
to stop him.”
“We need to do something about this,” Hermione mumbled,
her mind beginning to turn.
--
“Remind me why we have to do this so bloody early?” Ron
grumbled. He hated having to wake up early but hated missing a good breakfast
even more.
“Because, if we wait it defeats the point- mum and
everyone will be up soon!” Ginny hissed back, glaring daggers at her brother.
“I’m not daft, I know that. Why are we doing
this in the first place?” Ginny whipped around nearly knocking a crouching Ron
onto his bum.
“Will you be quiet?! We have been over this a million
times you git! The adults shuffle about and refuse to tell us anything- you’d
think after how we handled ourselves in the Department of Mysteries they would
trust us to help. But no. It’s been months, Voldemort is back and yet
even Harry knows nothing new. It’s time we took things into our own hands.”
“Blimey, you don’t have to go off on me Gin’. I meant
why are we going this way to the meeting with everyone? Wouldn’t the other
hall be quicker?” Ginny gaped at her brother, growled and told him to hush as
they continued to hurry along the side of the house to the old shed that lay to
the side of the Burrow.
--
“What took you? We thought you had run into one of the
adults.” Harry said with a sigh of relief as Ginny and a muttering Ron slipped
into the creaking shed.
“Ron here couldn’t keep his bloody mouth shut is what
happened,” Ginny said with a nod towards Ron. Ron didn’t notice, his
attention fixed on the plate of pasties that someone had brought with them.
It was hard to say exactly who brought the pasties, indeed
it seemed there may be too many people present to count. Hermione had spelled
the inside of the shed to accommodate the large number of teenagers who had
assembled at Harry’s request.
Ginny scanned the room, everyone from ‘Dumbledore’s
Army’ was present: Neville Longbottom, Padma and Pavarti Patil, the Creevy
brothers, Cho Chang and Luna Lovegood stood out in the group. Others had come us
well- Dean Thomas, Lavender Brown, Michael Corner and several more who had been
brought by a friend and who had yet to be introduced.
“Perhaps we should get started? Before the adults start
waking?” Lavender called over the steady hum of speaking teens.
“Right, yeah, er’ Hermione?” Harry looked to his
bushy haired friend, made nervous by all the eyes starring back at him in
silence. Hermione rolled her eyes but stepped forward nonetheless.
“Right, this may seem familiar to those of you who joined
‘Dumbledore’s Army’ back when Umbridge was running things- we’re here
for much the same reason as then. For those of you we don’t know, of didn’t
know very well then, we called this meeting because the adults won’t let us
help.
“They are treating us the same way Umbridge did- like we
are too naïve to be able to help them- to know what’s going on with this war.
Sure, they teach us the spells to protect ourselves but they refuse to give us
the same information they have. So, if they won’t let us in on it- we’ll
have to do things ourselves.”
“What are we supposed to do? Play detective, get
ourselves killed?” Hermione turned to look at the stalky boy who had spoken.
She frowned, she definitely didn’t invite him, and his comment made her regret
the decision to allow people to bring anyone they saw fit.
“Look, you don’t have to be here- we are here to see
who wants to fight back. The adults can only do so much, we are the next
generation and if we aren’t going to fight for our place in a wizarding world
free of evil then we don’t deserve it.” Harry said firmly, looking eyes with
the youth.
“Harry’s right, we will all have to fight for our
future- we want the chance to start fighting on our own terms, to have an
element of, of well, surprise. V-Voldemort enlists students in our year as Death
Eaters, if the Order refuses to do the same, we will have to make our own Order.
We’re recalling Dumbledore’s Army.”
