The anger welled up inside of him as he saw them kill
her. He told her not to come. He told her he was worried about her. He knew that she could protect herself but
the worry never really went away. He
wished for once in his life he was wrong.
There was another thing that he was, and that was incensed. Mad.
The Gods alone knew how angry he was at his loss. He wanted revenge.
“Malfoy?” He screamed the
challenge, almost delirious.
“What’s the matter Potter? Bee in your
bonnet?” One Draco Malfoy called from the assembled ranks of Death
Eaters, stood to attention, staring directly ahead.
He couldn’t tell exactly which Death Eater was him, they
stood so close together with their robes and masks on identification went out
of the window.
“You know I cannot let you live, Malfoy. You will pay for killing Ginny.”
“You will not live to see me die, Potter. You think you can get past my army of Death
Eaters?”
“Your army?” Harry couldn’t hide
his surprise.
“Seeing as you killed Voldemort I was the
natural choice. What? You thought my Father would succeed him? Why
should he when I can wipe out all of the Mudbloods
and Half-Breeds so much more efficiently than he ever could?”
“What is wrong with you Malfoy?” He returned, still stunned
that he had masterminded the attack on Hogwarts where his wife, Ginny, had
worked.
“Nothing is wrong, I am merely
ridding the world of all pests.”
“Don’t you dare say that about my wife!”
He screamed in rage.
“Harry, don’t provoke him…” Ron put his arm on his shoulder,
not wanting to make the situation any worse.
“Ginny was your sister and my wife, Ron.” The look in his
eyes was scaring Ron. He knew that nothing he could say could make him back
down. Ron had never seen Harry this mad,
or seemingly suicidal.
“I can’t live like this Ron.” Harry turned to face him,
bleary yet reddened eyes causing him to jump with surprise.
“You can’t fight all of them alone, how did you two get out
here in the first place?” Ron tried admonishing Harry but couldn’t.
“Secret mission from the Ministry. I came here to assassinate the new leader of
the New Order, the organisation left behind when I killed Voldemort. Ginny followed me and I didn’t know. I’m sorry Ron I’m sorry.” Tears of
frustration and grief fell freely again.
“Awww Potter’s all sad his wife’s
dead.” Malfoy catcalled.
“That does it.”
“Harry no…” Ron made a grab at Harry’s heels as he charged
into the group of Death Eaters, casting killing curses on every one that got in
his way.
Ron found himself following Harry into the fray, determined
not to let his best friend die at the hands of the Death Eaters.
A circle of dead Death Eaters was panning outwards from
Harry as he unseeingly parried and retaliated, more and more falling to his
rage.
He noticed that one above all others was deceptive with his
spell casting. Every time he had tried
to incapacitate him the spell had been sent at a Death Eater nearby, sending
them to the floor instead. He wants it to be me and him. Harry
realised.
Finally after several moments, he found himself in a triangle
with Ron and the one remaining Death Eater.
“Who are you? Show yourself.” Harry demanded.
“Nobody demands anything of me.” The Death Eater responded.
“Malfoy I know that’s you.” Harry cut back immediately.
“You killed Ginny and yet you are afraid to show your face.”
Ron added, face darkening at the memory.
“No I am not afraid, I am merely proud to wear the Death
Eater garb. Why should I take it off
after all the hard work I put into obtaining it?” Draco Malfoy shrugged nonchalantly.
“Take off that mask or I will rip it off with your worthless
skull still attached.” Harry vowed as he and Ron advanced on him.
“I think not.” A sneer was visible from beneath the mouth
section of the mask as an explosion tore through the ground, sending shards of
metal outwards in a scything arc.
Harry warded himself as quick as he could, feeling a chunk of metal bounce off of his ward. As the smoke cleared he looked at where Ron
had been standing and saw a shredded body.
“No…” Harry dropped to his knees beside his friend. “Please no.”
“Harry…” A whisper met his ears.
“Ron?” Tears once again met his eyes as he realised there
was little time left for his best friend.
“Avenge us.”
“I’m sorry…” Harry cried as Ron gasped in pain then moved no more.
“Shame, that. Weasley was such a good play thing.” Malfoy
mocked.
“Malfoy!” Harry screamed as he
threw every curse he knew at Malfoy, the boy that betrayed them for his own
gains. The boy he had come to
trust. The boy who
killed Ginny and Ron. The boy who would be paying for the years of hurt that he had
bestowed upon him.
Harry had descended into a red-hazed rage, hurling curse
after curse and mouthing words so quietly that they were lost in the noise of
his spells being launched at his nemesis.
Malfoy found himself on the wrong end of a deadly
barrage. This was what he wanted, of
sorts. He wanted to prove to Harry once
and for all that not only was he better but also that he could take away what
Harry loved. He felt a smug satisfaction
as he remembered Ginny’s face. The way
her face twisted into a mask of pain for just a fraction of a split second,
then her body hit the floor. A well
aimed cutting curse reminded Draco that now wasn’t the time to reminisce.
“Is that the best you can do, Potter?” Draco barked at
Harry.
“No.” Harry dived off to the left, then
zigzagged, catching Draco by surprise.
There was a blinding flash then nothing.
Draco clawed at his eyes in pain.
All of a sudden Draco felt something cold pressed against
his throat.
“Scared, Malfoy?” A voice whispered into his ear.
“Potter?” He felt a sudden cold
rush in as he felt his mask torn away.
“Malfoy.” Harry screamed back in
anguish. “Beg like the scum you are.”
“Never. Descend to Miss Weasley’s level I think not.”
“Ginny would never surrender to you. Go to hell.”
Harry pulled away and slashed with his wand, then Draco’s
lifeless body slumped to the floor, head lolling to the side as Harry’s hate
filled swipe cut through sinew and bone: A swipe that nearly sent Draco’s head
tumbling away from his body.
“Now it is over.” Harry spat on his lifeless corpse.
“Harry?!” Hermione came over the
brow of the hill. “Oh my God Harry!”
Harry was now confronted by a distraught Hermione.
“No!” She spotted Ron. “Not Ron…”
And then…
“Ginny?” She cried as she collapsed in grief. “Who did this
to them Harry? Who?”
“Draco did, Hermione.”
Hermione started to scream, then as she was about to say
something his ears could comprehend, “He’s already dead. Now get Ron and Ginny
away from here, there is something I must do.”
Harry leant down to Hermione, kissed her on the forehead,
then did the same to Ron, and then as he went back to Ginny’s lifeless form,
kissed her delicately and deliberately on the lips, losing himself for a moment
in the smell of her hair, and the perfume she wore because she knew it was his
favourite.
“I love you Ginny. You are always in my heart.”
He mumbled a spell and she disappeared.
“Harry what?”
Hermione gasped.
“St. Mungo’s
mortuary. I will be going there soon.
Apparate there now with Ron.
I will be delivering my report to the Minister of Magic as soon as I am
done here. Infact, one thing you can help me with
now… Gather everyone’s wands.”
“Wands, why?” Hermione was nonplussed.
“They can be used as identification.”
“Oh…” Hermione didn’t dedicate any energy into why Harry
would need wizards wands for notification while their bodies where all here.
Several minutes later Hermione was in possession of every
wand of every slain Death Eater, apart from one which Harry now twirled around
his fingers.
“Malfoy’s.”
Harry murmured at her unspoken question. “Go, now.” Harry said shortly before
she could inquire further.
The last thing Hermione saw and felt was a flash of bright
light and the smell of burning.
