This is my entry for May for the Golden Dragon challenge. Enjoy!
The Legend of Shadow
The air rushed through his hair, the wind howled out to him, cried of children and their parents washed over his ears. His emerald green eyes watching the humans below.
“Will you not tell me your name?” a French Vampire by the name of Jean-Claude asked, his blue eyes shining in the star light, “May I have the pleasure of knowing how you came to be in my fair circus?”
The other looked down at Jean-Claude, not saying anything or giving anything away in those stone like emerald eyes. His raven black hair pooled around him like a river, keeping him warm from the night’s cold air.
“Will you not tell me? For I need to be sure you are not a threat to not only my circus and people but this fair city as well,” Jean-Claude said calmly, knowing that the soft and calm approach was best with this male, “I wish you no harm for I know you have always been here in St. Louis, in fact have you ever been outside this circus?”
Emerald eyes flicked with what Jean-Claude thought of as a pout, the wind came once again moving the male’s hair to show a single lightning bolt scar on his forehead, another point that Jean-Claude could use to try and get the youth to open up and talk.
“That is an interesting scar you have there, in the shape of a lightning bolt,” Jean-Claude tried once again, “If you do not mind me asking…how did you acquire it? It is the sign of hero’s in a culture through I am not sure.”
Hardened eyes stared at him, Jean-Claude felt like he was being tested both inside and outside, as if this young boy in front of him was making him spill all of his darkest secrets without a word nor was there anything that he could do to prevent this.
“Find what you’re looking for?” Jean-Claude asked with a raised eyebrow, “For I have nothing to hide as I have nothing to say until I gain some answers.”
Jean-Claude gave a sigh as he watched the male give him one last look before disappearing into thin air without moving a muscle, almost like…magic.
“Who are you?” Jean-Claude whispered as he looked up into the night’s sky, “Why won’t you go home? Why are you here?”
“You talking about Shadow?”
Jean-Claude’s gazed turned onto his pomme de sang who was now sitting at his feet like a puppy and eating a bar of chocolate.
“Mon Loup, you know of this strange child?” Jean-Claude questioned as he watched Jason eat the chocolate bar.
“Everyone does,” Jason replied around a mouth full of chocolate, “He lives here, his always been here, Shadow is just…his a part of this circus like the tents are or the wolf man is. Shadow is just part of what makes the circus so unique.”
“He has been here before anyone else then?” Jean-Claude questioned, wondering just how long this child had been with the circus, “Does anyone know when this child came to us?”
“Nope, I heard that three Vampires Masters have came and left, that they had all reported that Shadow present when they first came to the circus,” Jason said as he eat the last of his chocolate, “To think that of how long each Vampire Master has ruled the city and the reports on how long Shadow’s been here, it’s amazing to think of how old he is, what Shadow must of seen and gone through.”
“Oui, it seems our shy friend has been through a lot in his long time,” Jean-Claude wondered out loud as his fingers ran through Jason’s long messy locks, “The things he must have seen…if what you say is true then I wonder if he was alive when I myself was alive.”
“You want to have a talk about ‘in my day’ huh?” Jason asked playfully as he leant into Jean-Claude’s touch, “Well good luck with that Jenny, in all the time that Shadow’s been in the circus no one has ever heard him speak, not a single word.”
“Not one?” Jean-Claude asked as his fingers paused, “Why? Is he mute?”
“No one knows,” Jason said as he licked the melted remains of chocolate from his fingers, “His just never spoken, many have tried and many have failed. If you get him to talk you’ll be the first one in a very long time.”
“It seems that I have another challenge on my hands,” Jean-Claude said with a smirk causing Jason to give a groan.
“Oh joy,” Jason muttered to himself as he stood up off of the ground, “And Anita was your last ‘challenge’. Be careful, I don’t need to walk in on that again.”
Jean-Claude gave a deep velvety like chuckle, “Admit it Mon Loup, you liked it, after all you did join in.”
“Yeah well things got out of hand,” Jason muttered, “Anyway I’ve got to get a move on.”
“Oh?” Jean-Claude asked casually, “You are performing tonight I take it?”
Jason gave Jean-Claude a devilish smirk, “It’s a hen party tonight!”
Jean-Claude let lose a laugh as his pomme de sang gave a saucy wink before running off in the direction of a waiting car.
“It seems that Mon Loup will be enjoying himself this evening,” Jean-Claude said with a small smile as he looked up into the nearby trees where the young man that was known as Shadow sat, “Have you got plans for this fair night?”
Emerald eyes pinned Jean-Claude to the spot once again.
“Might this be a power of yours?” Jean-Claude said as he moved his hair out of his eye, “It seems that you are not human no matter how it appears to be.”
A moment later Jean-Claude found the youth jumping down out of the tree and landing next to him on the floor. Much to Jean-Claude’s amusement the boy looked like a cat as he moved.
“I take it that you will be joining me on this lovely night?” Jean-Claude asked only to burst out in laughter at the smaller male’s actions.
The smaller male walked over to stand next to Jean-Claude and placed himself so that Jean-Claude would have an arm around his shoulders. Once this was done emerald eyes looked up at Jean-Claude in a way that almost said ‘Well? What are we waiting for?’
“Oui what are we waiting for,” Jean-Claude said with a soft smile, “Where would you like to begin?”
With that Jean-Claude allowed the male called Shadow to drag him towards the food area, not caring for anything more that the other was slowly opening up to him, tonight it seemed was a development in their relationship, a good one if Jean-Claude could keep it going in this direction.
Looking to which food stall they were heading for Jean-Claude couldn’t help the groan as he spotted the hot dog stall. Looking down at the small male who was happily walking along side him still under his arm Jean-Claude could have sworn he saw a playful glint in those stone cold emerald eyes only for it to disappear as quickly as it came.
“Greetings Master,” the stall holder, a young black haired female greeted the couple with a smile, “May I get you anything?”
Jean-Claude and the stall holder waited quietly as the small male looked at the menu with a frown on his face before pointing at an option.
“Ah, you want a hotdog without the bun then?” the stall holder asked as she grabbed a stick from a nearby rack, getting a nod she grabbed a packet of sausages from the small portable fridge and light the stove in front of her, “How many?”
“I think that one would be enough,” Jean-Claude answered as he noticed the youth’s gaze on him, “If that is alright with you… Shadow?”
The newly christened Shadow gave a nod of his head, a thoughtful expression on his face.
‘Cute’ Jean-Claude couldn’t help but think as he took in the sight that was his Shadow.
The male seemed to be such a mysterious yet so innocent, feelings of love and protection arose in Jean-Claude through he did not act on it, he did not want to break the bond that was forming between the two of them. Through Jean-Claude couldn’t help but wish for more, for them to be more but for his emerald eyes angelic Shadow he could wait several life times.
“Be careful, it’s hot,” the voice of the stall holder came breaking Jean-Claude out of his thoughts, “There’s a selection of sauces for you if you want any of them.”
Jean-Claude watched in amusement as Shadow reached out to grab a bottle of sauce only for it to squirt out and a bit land right on the tip of his nose.
“No, let me,” Jean-Claude said softly as he bent down slightly and wiped the sauce off of Shadow’s nose with a soft and loving kiss, “There, all better.”
Shadow looked up at Jean-Claude with wide eyes, which was answered by Jean-Claude staring right back at him.
“Young love,” the stall holder said with a sigh as she went off to serve another customer.
“Eat it before it gets cold,” Jean-Claude said after a few minutes, “I want to make sure you’ve got some food inside of you even if it’s only one hot dog without the bun.”
Jean-Claude stood and watched in muted horror as Shadow began to lick the sauces that had landed on the sausages before taking it all in his mouth. He gulped as sweat poured down him as Harry took the sausages out of his mouth and took a sharp bite.
“I take it that you like the sausages then?” Jean-Claude asked, glad that he had not worn the extra tight leather trousers that night, “Is there anywhere else that you would like to go?”
With the sausages hanging out of his mouth, much to Jean-Claude’s lustfully misery, Shadow looked around the circus, ignore the stares that came their way, and his eyes homed in on the ‘hook a duck’ stall.
“You want a go on that game?” Jean-Claude asked, thankful that there it was a more common and simple attraction then other ones that the circus held, “Would you like a go?”
Shadow shook his head as he ate the last of his sauge and threw away the stick. He then pushed Jean-Claude in the direction of the stall, towards a smirking bald vampire.
“Want to win the quirt a prize Master?” The bald vampire asked as he picked up a long rod with a hook at the end of it.
Looking at Shadow’s hopeful eyes Jean-Claude felt himself slowly cave in as he found himself under a hopeful gaze.
“I’ll have a go Mark,” Jean-Claude said with a sigh as he took the rod from the smirk vampire, “Do you wish for a particular duck Shadow?”
Shadow nodded his head and pointed to one causing Jean-Claude to give a groan.
“Why does it have to be the one right in the middle, the hardest one to get,” Jean-Claude muttered much to the stall holder’s amusement.
“It’s always the way Master, I’ve seen it many times before,” Mark said with a grin as he moved to the side of the stall out of the way, “You’re welcome to try through.”
Jean-Claude gave a silent suffering sigh, if he didn’t at least attempt to get the duck in the middle then he’d be subjected to a much more statue like Shadow then he had been getting to know these last few minutes.
So carefully and slowly Jean-Claude moved his rod over the other ducks on the small make shift pond and towards the duck in the middle. He almost got one of the other ducks on the end of his pole but after a few minutes of tension and silence Jean-Claude finally got the duck in the middle.
“Congratulations,” Mark said with a grin at Jean-Claude who was quietly thanking everything that he had managed to get the duck, “Now then, let’s see what you’ve won.”
Mark turned the duck over and looked at the coloured spot that it held, he then sent Jean-Claude a smirk that sent shivers up the Master Vampire’s spine.
“Why am I going to wish that I had looked over the lists of prizes when I took over the circus for?” moaned Jean-Claude as he gave Mark a nervous look.
“And ruin the great moments?” Mark said with a deadly smirk, “Now Kiss.”
“What!” Jean-Claude couldn’t help but to yell out, his French accent becoming more prominent, “Mark you must be joking.”
“Nope,” Mark said with a grin on his face, “I’ve got proof.”
“I wish to see this proof,” Jean-Claude said seriously.
Harry watched with a spark in his eyes as Jean-Claude took the list of prizes and read down the list. His face quickly flashed a smirk before disappearing as quickly as it came.
“I knew I should have gone over the prize lists,” Jean-Claude muttered to himself as he read the list, “Oh well...Shadow?”
The next thing Jean-Claude knew was a pair of soft delicate lips covering his own; the feeling caused the world to come crashing down around him into a million pieces. Neither of them noticed a crowd gathering to watch the hot sight.
Jean-Claude battled for dominance and finally winning it as he entered Shadow’s mouth and explored every little bit he could. Giving a moan of appreciation and pleasure Jean-Claude wrapped his arms around the smaller male and held him close. He felt as smaller and nervous arms wrapped around his own body.
Lost in the kiss that was turning into a full make out session they almost didn’t hear the polite cough from Mark.
“If you don’t mind...” Mark said with a smirk on his face, “I think you two need to get a bedroom.”
Jean-Claude could only look around in shock at the large crowed that had gathered and was currently drooling over the scene he and Harry made kissing.
“I am sorry Shadow,” Jean-Claude said as he took the emerald eyed youths hand and lead him away from the crowds, “I should not of done that.”
Before Jean-Claude could say anything else a soft voice that sounded like an angle’s voice came to his ears, “Call me...Harry.”
And before Jean-Claude could turn around and respond Harry was gone.
“Harry,” Jean-Claude said as he tasted the words, he closed his eyes as he felt the wind rush through him, “Until the next time my love, until the next time.”
With that Jean-Claude turned and walked into a nearby tent, never noticing a pair of emerald eyes watch his bum moved as he walked in those tight leather trousers.
The End.
