"The Bleeding"
She sat perched by his feet as always. Business was dull, and she had long since given up keeping her mind active by following the complex politics. There was a certain, emptiness in the girl's large, amber eyes that would horrify her former friends. Still, she was content.
I remember when all the games began
Idly her mind ventured back to the beginning. His attention had been unwavering. Every action he made meant to make her understand that He and He alone owned her every thought, action, breath. It was too much for her to resist, and even her strong Gryffindor will had eventually crumpled beneath the enigmatic man behind her. The punishments had been harsh, but the rewards sweet.
Remember every little lie and every last goodbye
At first there had been a long line of familiar faces dragged before them in the court. Often she had had to be immobilized to stop her from doing something foolish. Eventually, a cold laugh preceding the deed, he would make her kill or torture them, at risk of something far, far worse. He never threatened her person, even then she had lost her care for her own body. She was made to choose between friends over and over. Who would live in torture and misery, who would die. Which was the true mercy? In the end she stopped crying, stopped caring.
Promises you broke, words you choked on
He used to tease her with thoughts of freedom, dangling it like a carrot, but she knew the truth now. There would be no freedom for her. This was her life. Eventually she even began to care for him. He was, gentle with her. Often when they were alone he would indulge in affectionate gestures. Caressing her cheek as he walked by, stroking her hair. There were still brutal punishments, but less often now. One day she couldn't contain it anymore, she told him she loved him. His fury knew no bounds. He crucio'd her on the spot, before banishing her from his side for a week. That had been the worst. She sat in the dungeon day in and day out, not knowing if she'd ever see his face again.
and I never walked away,
When he came back, he gave her a choice. She could leave, go free. Return to the world and be merely one more witch. She couldn't do it. She begged to be allowed to stay with him. He made her swear never to use that dreadful word again.
it's still a mystery to me
Why didn't she leave? Surely others were still out there, surely someone was still fighting...
Well I'm so empty
There was little left of her by then. She was, reformed in the image he wished. She even craved his punishments, anything to make her feel real. Anything to feel alive.
I'm better off without you and you're better off without me
She should have run. She craved him in a way that was unhealthy. She was his weakness, even his Death Eaters had began to notice. Whispers abounded that he was getting soft, that dealing with the mudblood had tainted him.
Well you're so unclean
Whenever the whispers grew too much, he'd punish her, as if they were her doing. Callously he would give her to a favoured Death Eater. Allowing them to do unspeakable things to her.
I'm better off without you and you're better off without me
She never begged him to take her back, he wouldn't like that. It wasn't her place. Some of the Death Eaters were kind. Snape always treated her like a fragile flower, caressing her and showing her true gentleness. She despised him for it.
The lying, the bleeding, the screaming
Then she would be back in her Lord's clutches. The whip would caress her flesh, leaving burning stripes across her soft, golden skin. She would twitch upon the bench as he punished her body for his own weakness. Each lash would echo with recriminations. She was bewitching him. He did not need her, he only desired her. She was nothing, filthy mudblood taint that could easily be replaced.
Was tearing me apart
His words cut deeper than the lash. Deep inside she knew he cared, she knew it! Didn't she? Doubt seeped in. Every time he left her nearer and nearer to death. One day he would kill her, and she would accept it.
The hatred (deceiving), the beatings; it's over
She didn't want him to hurt her anymore. She pulled away, and a flicker of doubt crossed his eyes. He pulled her back in, shushing her, apologizing. He never meant to, she just terrified him so much. It wouldn't happen again. She knew she was special. Her mind spiraled. What was truth? What was fiction? Best not to think, best just to be in the moment. React.
Paint the mirrors black to forget you
The sight of her face was a torment, a sign of all that he had done. She was no longer young and fresh, and her eyes... what had he done to her eyes? The sound of breaking glass appeased her momentarily.
I still picture your face and the way you used to taste
He was avoiding her again. It had been weeks, and still she was not called to sit with him as he lorded over his kingdom. Part of her was glad, reclaiming pieces of her soul that she had buried, part of her craved him.
Roses in a glass, dead and wilted
To you this all was nothing
Everything to you is nothing
He'd always kept fresh flowers in the room, but not anymore. There was no point, he no longer came to her. She had been forgotten. How could he forget her? He was her world she had nothing else without him.
Well you're so filthy
I'm better off without you and you're better off without me
She began wandering the halls. Apparently he didn't even bother to ward the door anymore. Tears trickled down her face. Why had she been forsaken?
Well I'm so ugly
You're better off without me and I'm better off alone
She barely ate, growing ever thinner. She was listless, hollow-eyed. An empty shell of what had been. He still did not come. Why? She longed for him.
The lying, the bleeding, the screaming
Was tearing me apart
The hatred, the beatings (disaster); it's over
She craved even his violence. No one touched her. The Death Eater's barely noticed her as she ghosted about. She was a non-entity. She did not exist.
As wicked as you are, you're beautiful to me
You're the darkest burning star, you're my perfect disease
Finally she found the room where he held court. There he sat, regal. A marble statue of some forgotten snake god. Her body thrilled, stepped forward, stopped. There was someone else in her place. Lapdog eyes stared lovingly up at her Dark Lord. A perfect little angel with long blonde locks. Hermione screamed. Drawing a wand that no one remembered she had she shot a curse at her tormentor, her lover, her betrayer. The Death Eater's swarmed her in retribution, but it was too late. The Dark One was dead, and at his feet Luna Lovegood gave a knowing smile.
The lying, the bleeding, the screaming
Was tearing me apart
The hatred, the beatings; it's over
Disaster
The lying, the bleeding, the screaming
Was tearing me apart
The hatred, the beatings; it's over
Disaster
It's over now...
