She could be right. Ron thought to himself as he looked into the mirror in Gryffindor tower. The war was over and Harry had defeated Voldemort and everything was peaceful. Except for Ron and Hermione’s relationship of course. After the final battle the Golden Trio had been there to help put the castle together and rebuild what they had lost. Now they had returned to Hogwarts to complete their 7thyear and to sit their NEWTS. Not that Ron was happy but it was Hermione’s insistence that had them there. They weren’t the only ones either. There were plenty of students from their year and Ginny’s year that had returned to finish their schooling.
Since the war Ron had been enjoying time with Hermione, Harry, and his family. He had never had a quiet year since starting Hogwarts and he found it nice to be able to relax and enjoy for a while. Harry and Ginny were clearly happy together and they got on great. Everyone thought Hermione and him were the same way. They didn’t notice how she nagged him about everything when they were alone and this was the last straw. She had told him he needed to go on a strict diet because he was getting too fat. He had scoffed at her then, he hadn’t changed a bit. As he stood there looking in the mirror he knew she had been right. His once flat stomach now rounded out into a soft potbelly that hung slightly over his jeans, and he was definitely getting love handles. He let his fingers move over the newly protruding flesh as he watched in the mirror. There was no denying it, he had gotten plump over the last year. He pulled his shirt on and looked at the much to snug buttons around his belly and shrugged. Gaining weight wasn’t something a man worried about, much less a war hero like himself.
He sat in the Great hall and began devouring the savory food that the house elves had cooked. That was, only until Hermione came and sat next to him, giving him a disgusting look and vanishing his plate of food. He looked down at the pile of mixed greens and colorless, and he assumed flavorless, chicken that he was left with. He sighed heavily and pushed the plate away pouting. He knew Hermione was like that but come on, not letting him eat? He couldn’t think of anything worse. He glared at her and stood from the table. Hermione followed him out of the Great Hall and into the corridor.
“Ronald, I am doing this for you” Hermione told him pleadingly. “You need to lose weight and stay healthy” Ron knew what she meant. By that she means don’t get fat and embarrass me, because Hermione Granger can’t have a fat boyfriend.
“I think I am going to bed Hermione, Goodnight” Ron said coldly before stalking back to his room angrily. Neither Ron nor Hermione had seen the silvery blonde hair on the other side of the room listening to them. Hermione wasn’t a doctor, she wasn’t in charge of him, and he was a grown man completely capable of making his own decisions. She was his girlfriend, she was supposed to love him for whom he was. His stomach growled loudly when he reached his room in Gryffindor tower. Thankfully the older students that were return to finish their education after the war got their own rooms and bathrooms now. He didn’t mind sharing a room with Harry, but he was sure he didn’t want to listen to his best mate snog his sister all night long either.
Ron shed his robe and unbuttoned his shirt leaving him in just a white t-shirt and his trousers. An inch of belly fat poked out from the t-shirt that used to fit him and he smirked at himself in the mirror. So he wasn’t trim and cut anymore, he was a war hero that had every right to eat what he wanted, it wasn’t up to his slim little girlfriend to boss him around. His stomach growled loudly again and he lay down on his bed with a bag of treats from Honeydukes and dug in. He dozed off a short while later with a belly full of sweets and the candy bag still in his arm.
Ron awoke later and checked the time, nearly midnight. He had only slept for about two hours. It was hunger that had woken him up. Skipping dinner did not agree with him and it wasn’t candy he was craving. He sighed and got up from the bed and buttoned his pants, needing to suck in his protruding stomach as he did so. He left the room quickly and walked down the stairs to the common room. He was thankful to see no one awake as he left through the portrait hole.
Ron knew his way to the kitchens well and hadn’t forgotten how he simply has to tickle the pear to get in. The house elves recognized him immediately and were quick to offer a friend of Harry Potter anything he could possibly want. Ron gobbled down sandwiches and tarts like he hadn’t eaten in days, everything was so delicious. Bugger Hermione I can make my own decisions. He thought smugly. Not wanting to over stay his welcome, knowing that he would be back often if Hermione kept this routine up he filled his arms with pastries and other goodies, making sure he was well supplied for the night and left the kitchens.
He tried to be as quiet as possible walking back through the corridors until he walked right into another figure and fell backwards. He heard a cool voice whisper “Lumos” and a circle of light revealing to him that he had walked right into Draco Malfoy. His food was scattered around him, thankfully most of it was wrapped, and he was suddenly self-conscious of his full pot belly that his shirt could not cover. His new gut was on display for Malfoy to see and he was sure he was going to mock him. Draco’s eyes flicked over the scene and settle for a few moments on Ron’s exposed middle.
“Weasley” Malfoy grumbled. “Still breaking rules I see, out for a bit of a midnight snack?” He asked rising and eyebrow at Ron. He put out his hand and glanced at Ron’s body. “Might not be the first one either I see” He added with a smirk. Ron had been expecting much worse and regarded Malfoy’s out stretched hand suspiciously. Eventually he grabbed it and got to his feet collecting his dropped snacks and trying to avoid eye contact with Malfoy. Why was he acting so strangely? He pulled at the t-shirt and tried to cover the weight he had gained over the past year when Malfoy shocked him again. “It’s fine” he said with that famous Malfoy smirk still playing on his lips. He brushed Ron’s hand away from his shirt and let his own fingers run gently over Ron’s stomach. “Just follow me”.
“Where are we going Malfoy?” Ron asked him as they descended into the dungeons. Ron glanced around. Not having to take potions meant he never went down there anymore and he hadn’t in years. It was different yet somehow the same. Cold and moist, smelling of moss and wet stone. He found it almost comforting that not everything had to change. He had a feeling he knew where they were going, he just didn’t understand why they would be. Malfoy and Ron had never been able to put the past behind them. They didn’t fight anymore; it was more like they completely ignored each other.
“I thought that part would be easy to figure out Weasley” He said quietly. “I am the only Slytherin to return to Hogwarts after the war. I have the best rooms in the castle and yet no one to talk to or call a friend and you need a place to hide from Granger.” He told Ron with a smirk. “Of course I’m not sure you can help me with the friend part of it, but having someone to talk to once in a while would be nice.” Ron couldn’t help but realize that Malfoy almost sounded vulnerable. He hadn’t thought of what it would be like for him to be back at Hogwarts after the war. He shrugged his shoulders and continued to follow him, Harry had Ginny after all and Hermione had become dreadful, he didn’t see what harm it could do. He followed Malfoy all the way through the dungeons and to a portrait of a silver and green snake. It was beautiful but so Slytherin that Ron gave it a dirty look out of principle and jumped when it hissed at him.
Malfoy didn’t lie when he said he had the best rooms in the castle. He stepped onto the dark wood floors of Malfoy’s sitting room and glanced from the plush grey carpet in front of the fire place to the pillowy and soft looking black furniture. Ron tried to control his face so Malfoy couldn’t tell that he was awed. The private rooms in Gryffindor were nice, but nothing like this. He supposed that being the only one from your house to return had to have it perks. “Sit anywhere” Malfoy said loudly as he walked down the hallway and towards a different room. Ron chose the soft black recliner and settled in nicely. Malfoy retuned moments later with tea and biscuits and a large book, and took a seat on the couch next to the recliner. Ron was stuffed from earlier but helped himself to a biscuit anyway; it would be rude to not eat the food Malfoy shared with him.
When he looked down and realized he had eaten the entire plate of biscuits he blushed and glanced at Malfoy hoping he hadn’t noticed. Quickly he realized that he had been watching him the whole time. He looked at Malfoy’s perfectly toned figure. Great now he is going to think I am a pig just like Hermione. To his surprise Malfoy smiled at him rather than looked at him with disgust. “You eat like you never will again” Malfoy commented. “Granger starving you now in her quest to control all?” He asked him without a hint of making fun of him. Ron met his gaze and let a hand fall to his protruding stomach.
“Would you ever expect perfect Hermione Granger to have a fat boyfriend?” Ron asked catching Malfoy off guard. He saw Malfoy staring at his middle again and for some reason didn’t feel self-conscious. “She’s been after me to go on a diet for months and finally tonight she vanished my food and said enough was enough.” Ron confessed blushing. It wasn’t like Malfoy couldn’t already see the pounds he had packed on. “And I decided the nagging was enough, every man has his breaking point.”
“Stupid girl” Malfoy muttered under his breath so quietly that Ron wasn’t sure if he had heard him correctly. He was so confused by Malfoy’s behavior that he was convinced that he could be dreaming. Why would he be in Malfoy’s rooms talking about his relationship with Hermione, eating all of his biscuits? More importantly why was Malfoy looking at him like that? Ron thought he could see lust in his eyes and it was making him feel warm.
“Come again?” Ron said innocently, not sure what Malfoy was getting at and trying to ignore the nagging in the back of his head and the twitching in his cock that the young man was causing. He watched as Malfoy pointed his wand at the empty plate and it refilled with delicious looking pastries. Malfoy didn’t answer Ron or repeat what he had said. Instead he lifted the plate and turned to Ron.
