Summary: Blade was used to working alone with Whistler as his only back up, but when he met Ethan, everything changed. This young man with a dark past might be just what the doctor prescribed to cure Blade’s loneliness…

BOOK ONE; chapter one:
How they met
- - - -
The tall, dark-skinned man smirked when his smaller companion sighed. Unlike Blade, Ethan just couldn’t get used to techno music. It always bothered him. ‘Well… At least we’ll be done with this quickly.’ Blade thought and looked at Ethan, who twisted his personalized butterfly knife skillfully in his hand, before he pushed away from the wall he was leaning on and walked over to Blade’s side.
“Let’s get this show on the road.” Ethan said and gave Blade a sideways glance. Blade smirked at him and together they entered the vampire night club.
And just in time for the blood bath… literally…
Blade hadn’t looked at Ethan but he could clearly imagine the frown of distaste on the charming, beautiful face; the way that small, button nose would scrunch up because of the stench of blood, the way the right corner of his full, tasteful lips would curl up slightly, revealing a slightly pointed fang…
“Blade…” The taller man looked to the side only to see a reprimanding look in Ethan’s eyes.
“Sorry. It’s been a while.” Blade said. Before them, the vampires had yet to realize they had additional, unwanted company. Ethan huffed around a smirk and lowered his arms to his sides.
“Later.” He said and Blade shivered openly from the hidden promise in Ethan’s voice. Blade turned to the crowd of rowdy vampires just in time to have a guy crawl up to him.
Ethan suppressed a chuckle when the guy looked up. ‘Poor human…’ He thought before he focused on the ‘mission’ again.
The vampires stopped dancing one by one, their eyes settling on Blade. Ethan was quite pleased Blade was so big. He always attracted most of the attention, so Ethan had a chance to evaluate the situation. Whispers spread around the room.
“Jesus, it’s him…”
“It’s the Daywalker…”
Ethan caught the smirk which spread over Blade’s face from the corner of his eyes, and couldn’t suppress a smirk of his own. The vampires started to back away and Blade moved forward. ‘Poor fools… As if there’s somewhere to hide…’ Ethan thought and readied his gun and a silver manriki-gusari which up until a moment ago, hung innocently around his waist.
“Let’s do this.” He said and at the same time a vampire charged at Blade, and the Daywalker pulled out a huge gun, blowing the moron to Kingdome come.
They fought back to back with Ethan, who waved the silver chain with the silver diamond-shaped weights on each end around expertly, occasionally using the knife or hi gun. When Blade ran out of bullets it came down to the good old man to man… And Ethan couldn’t help but hope it would all end quickly. Seeing Blade like that…
Meow…
Ethan cut down the last fool which attacked him and looked up in time to see Blade finish off another one. He looked to the side and saw a group of men, followed by a familiar face, enter the emptied room. ‘Quinn…’
“Blade…” Ethan murmured to attract Blade’s attention.
“That’s HIM!” Quinn shouted and pointed at Blade. “That’s him! Get him! Fuck ‘im up!” Ethan looked at Blade who finally pulled his sword out and grinned. ‘Fun starts now!’ He thought and whirled his manriki-gusari around. He walked over to Blade and they allowed the crones to surround them.
“That’s 8 of them and 2 of us, not counting Quinn, of course.” Ethan said as he and Blade stood back to back.
“Don’t worry, Reed. I’ll take most of them and Quinn.” Blade said in that all too familiar growl and Ethan felt a certain part of his physic awaken.
“Oh, you’re fighting too?” He said and grinned at the men before him, showing a line of perfect, white teeth and pointed fangs. His emerald eyes suddenly turned into slits and an amused hiss came out from behind his teeth.
“Hn.” Blade grunted and raised his sword. “You better walk out of this, Reed.” He said and Ethan gave the crones before him a feral grin.
“Right back at you, Blade.” And the fighting commenced. Moments later Ethan lost sight of Blade, but the lack of one particular vampire assured him that Blade had everything under control. He focused on his own fight and the grin, which just wouldn’t leave his face, grew even bigger.
“Come on, hun. I have dessert waiting to be eaten at home.” He said and slashed…
-
Blade just pinned Quinn to the wall when a shift in the air made him turn around. Sitting on the floor, leaning against the doorway with a little towel in his hands and his preferred weapon in his lap, was Ethan.
“You were done quickly.” Blade commented and Ethan threw him a sideways glance.
“All is possible with proper motivation, Blade.” Two dark eyebrows jumped up and Ethan gave Blade a seductive smirk. “Just to encourage you to be done with him soon.” Blade pursed his full lips and turned to the grumbling vampire. He walked over and looked at the man over his sunglasses.
“Quinn.” He said, but the man just wouldn’t shut up. “I’m getting a little tired of chopping you up.” Ethan rolled his eyes at that. Honestly, how many times did they have to chop the vampire up for him to realize it was time to roll over a die? ‘Heh…’ Ethan smiled for himself. ‘I’m the one to talk…’ He thought and went back to cleaning the silver weights on the chain.
“Thought I might try fire for a change… Give my regards to Frost.” Blade said and threw the Ignition Bomb on Quinn who immediately burst into flames and screams. Blade saw a man trying to run for it, but before he got the chance to catch him he was stopped.
“He’s human.” He looked at his lover and the man got away with Blade sparing him a sideways glance, before he focused on the raven haired, fair skinned young man. Said young man checked the weights on his weapon once again before he got up and looked at Blade.
With practiced ease the manriki-gusari was placed around Ethan’s rounded hips and the feline like man swayed his way over to Blade, both ignoring the screaming vampire behind them.
“You sure about that? He was sure running fast.” Blade said and grabbed Ethan’s waist when the man came close enough.
“Haha… wouldn’t you?” Ethan purred when he felt Blade’s strong body come in contact with his and his eyes rolled back and closed. A shiver passed over his body when Blade leaned down and buried his nose in Ethan’s neck. He inhaled the scent of the smaller, more delicate man and felt the actual extent of his need.
He was getting hard just by having the small Feline pressed against him like this, what will it be when they finally get down to it?
“It’s been too long…” Ethan whispered in his ear and his small, long-fingered hands grabbed Blade’s wide neck. Blade moved back and looked into those deep, emerald eyes.
“Far too long…” They were about to kiss when a resonating ‘thonk’ reached them. They parted and Ethan spoke both their minds when he sighed.
“Let’s get going.” He said and walked away. Blade grunted and followed his lover out. ‘You just wait… You’re mine tonight…’

How they reached their room at the safe house, neither will ever know. How they made it to the bed is an even greater mystery, but when Ethan felt Blade settle over him and the hybrid vampire’s teeth scratched the claming mark on his neck all rational thought was thrown to the seven winds.
How did they ever come to this?
How did they go from being completely independent to so completely depending on one another?
How did they come from strangers to mates in such a short time?
How did they learn to love?
- - - - 3 years ago; Godric’s Hallow - - - -
Blade looked around the abandoned little town. It was obvious the town was inhabited up until a little while ago. The houses still had supplies, clothes were still in the wardrobes…
Judging by everything… there was an attack… And he had a good feeling he knew what happened, or better yet who happened.
But something told him he was late.
There was no trace of vampires in the little town, although it was obvious they were there a short while back. As a matter of fact there was no living soul in the city.
He was about to turn around and leave when a strange, but enticing scent caught his attention.
Movement between the houses caught his eye and he gave chase, pulling out his trusty sword.
‘Damn, the motherfucker’s fast!’ He thought as he chased the man. They ran into the cemetery and Blade managed to get a good look at his pray.
It seemed to be a boy, a teenager, judging by his build. And damn the little bugger was fast.
But Blade wasn’t a vampire hunter for nothing.
The kid was about to run into a house when Blade caught up to him. They tumbled down to the ground and Blade was surprised with just how warm the boy was under him.
“Let me go, you bloody bloodsucker!” They boy’s voice was hoarse and strained and Blade was sincerely surprised by it. Soon he had the boy pinned down with his superior weight and strength and he got another shock.
Two cat-like orbs of pure emerald stared straight up at him, filled with fear, skillfully hidden behind defiance.
“You’re not one of them.” Blade spoke in his usual monotone.
“’Course I’m not one of them, you idiot! Now let go of me!” The pure British accent sounded somewhat appealing, despite the situation. Blade stood up and watched the smaller man stand and dust himself off. “Now, what in the bleeding fuck are you doing here?” Blade was forced to hide his surprise when the smaller man poked his chest with a clawed finger and looked him directly in the eyes.
Taking a closer look Blade noticed several other feline features on the smaller man. His nails were formed like claws, his body was lean. Light, cotton clothes hid slight muscles and he carried himself with pride.
Although it was obvious the boy was injured… severely.
Blade could almost taste the blood of reopened wounds…
“Hey! I asked you something!” The hoarse voice was unnatural. They boy’s vocal cords were damaged. Blade grunted.
“I’m a hunter. I tracked a group of vampires to this town.” The man huffed.
“A bit late, you are. I already dealt with them.” The man said and turned to walk away, and Blade could only stare after him with a raised eyebrow. He was even more surprised when the man stopped and turned. “Are you coming? I’ve dealt with the vampires, but there are worst things then them wondering the night in this town. You wouldn’t want to get caught by one of them unprepared, now would you?” And without another word, he walked away, as if he just called a friend in for tea and biscuits.
Blade rolled his shoulders and followed the man.
Whether he wanted to admit it or not… he was interested in the younger man.
There was just something… strange about him… and yet so familiar…
- - - - Present day - - - -
“Gods… Blade… Stop… Teasing!” Ethan almost screamed in frustration and Blade smirked for himself. He knew each and every sensitive spot on the smaller man’s body, knew what made him shiver, what made him moan, what made him scream, and what brought him to the door of completion, just a step before the very peek. He knew how to frustrate the man enough to make him beg for relies.
“DAMN it, Blade! It’s been too long!” Blade smirked and crawled over Ethan to kiss the man, smack on the lips. Clawed fingers scratched his back, leaving thin, precise slashes over taut muscles, and Blade hissed against bruised lips.
Dilated emeralds met chocolate brown and Blade leaned forward to nuzzle against a soft cheek. Ethan purred, low in his throat, sending vibrations down Blade’s body and the Daywalker growled.
“You’re mine…”
“Yes… yes… I’m yours… only yours…” A whispered whimper left Ethan’s lips as he completely surrendered control, and Blade licked the claiming mark sending a jolt of pleasure down Ethan’s body.
“Say it, pet… just say it…” He growled as he prepared to enter his smaller lover. He nudged against Ethan’s entrance, earning himself a small mewl.
“L…Love you… Eric… Please… Please… It’s been so long… Want to feel you…” Blade smiled and hid his face in Ethan’s shoulder.
“Whatever you wish…” He bit down and at the same time entered his small lover. Something between a mewl and a scream of complete pleasure echoed in the room and Blade stilled. Their hearts beat as one, they breathed as one… they became one…
“Move, mate… please…” Blade licked the reopened claiming mark and nuzzled his nose in Ethan’s sweaty, sweet smelling, silky hair.
“Anything for you…” He whispered and felt the smaller man pull him closer. “Anything for you…”
- - - - 3 years ago; Godric’s Hallow - - - -
“You are injured.” Blade said when he saw the man’s shoulders tense while he was poring tea for the both of them.
“It’s nothing. I’ve been worse.” The man said and brought Blade his cup before he sat down in the armchair opposite of Blade.
“So mister hunter, what brings you to Godric’s Hallow? There are bigger and stronger vampire groups in the world. I sincerely doubt you’re seeking this small insignificant one specifically.” Blade raised an eyebrow.
“What is that to you?” Blade asked and the man shrugged, but then winced in pain.
“I’m just interested. I haven’t really spoken to anyone in a while.” He said and Blade frowned.
“Aren’t you a bit young to be living here alone?” The man huffed and sipped at his tea.
“Point taken.” Blade grunted.
“What is your name?” Emerald orbs looked at him with slight surprise.
“Lately I’ve been known as Ethan Reed. You may call me that.” Blade gave him a short nod. “And what may I call you?”
“Blade.” Ethan tilted his head to the side and looked at Blade in scrutiny.
“Well, Blade. I would suggest you stay the night. You may be skilled when it comes to fighting vampires, but you cannot fight the creatures that haunt this city at night. We are safe in this house. You can leave in the morning.” Ethan stood up and left his empty cup on the table. “Good night, Blade. Rest.” He said and left the room without another word.
Blade hummed for himself and looked around.
Ethan Reed…
What and interesting man… a mystery…
And as much as Blade didn’t like mysteries…
This time he was willing to make an exception… For whatever reason…
- - - - Present time - - - -
“Blade… harder…” Ethan gasped and grunted when Blade changed angle and he saw stars. Damn the man for knowing him so well…
Damn him for making Ethan fall in love with him…
Damn him for becoming the most important thing in his life…
Damn him…
Just… damn him…
- - - - 3 years ago; Godric’s Hallow - - - -
“Blade? I thought you already left.” Blade looked down into the surprised face of Ethan. It’s been almost two weeks since he came into this town and he has been visiting the youth almost every other day. The smaller man looked worse for ware and Blade pursed his lips.
Yes, he should have left already. Whistler was becoming restless as well, but something was just keeping him here. Something was making him come back to the younger man’s sanctuary to check on him.
“What happened?” He asked as he entered the house, knowing Ethan would follow him after he locked the door.
“Nothing… Just the usual.” Ethan said and Blade’s frown deepened. He had yet to find out what was that haunted the younger man, and what ever it was it was taking its toll on the half-demon.
Yes… with Whistler’s help he found out what Ethan was. A descendant from a demonic ancestor, possibly a cat demon.
He had to die to come into that inheritance…
“Reed…”
“No, really… Blade… I’m fine… You really shouldn’t stay here for much longer. I can take care of myself, okay?” Blade frowned. Now he knew something was wrong.
Ethan was never this… suppliant…
The man was a cynic; sarcastic to the bone… something was really wrong with him if he was this out of sorts.
“This is something I must handle alone, Blade. They have noticed you here… You should leave as soon as possible.” Blade frowned.
“Reed, I…”
”Blade…” Ethan looked at Blade with imploring eyes. “Once I’m done with all the problems here… I’ll seek you out… Just to check up on you…” Ethan said and tried to give Blade one of his usual smirks, but somehow… he failed…
Blade swallowed and shifted his jaw, feeling the need to do something and yet not knowing what exactly he was supposed to do.
“Please, Blade… please…” Ethan changed tactics and looked at Blade with big, begging eyes. “I don’t want you to get involved in something that’s too big for you.” Blade huffed.
“And I suppose it’s not too big for you?” Ethan sighed and shook his head.
“It’s something I must handle alone. I’m sorry, Blade… Good bye.” Ethan said and left up the stairs… and Blade didn’t stop him. He left the house and closed the door behind himself.
Blade looked at the slowly setting sun and nodded for himself. ‘You promised, Reed… You better keep that promise…’ He turned and left.
- - - - Present time - - - -
Blade rolled to the side and pulled Ethan to rest on his chest. Both were breathing hard, their blood coursing through their veins. With surprisingly gentle fingers Blade traced the scars on Ethan’s back. Claw marks, whip marks, stab marks… they made an interesting pattern on the cat-demon’s back.
Ethan sighed and nuzzled closer to Blade. He remembered the day he came to Blade. He barely survived, but he had a promise to keep and he may be a lot of things, but he wasn’t a liar… not a liar…
- - - - 1 year and 6 months ago; outskirts of New York - - - -
Blade just came back from a successful hunt and he took his serum. Whistler commented how they’ll have to up the dosage soon. With a frown Blade placed his sword in its place. He was just about to settle to meditate when a loud crash came from somewhere in the store house he and Whistler have taken residence in.
He walked into the main room and Whistler looked at him pulling the safety back on his gun.
“That wasn’t me.” Whistler said and Blade nodded. He sniffed the air and the metallic scent of blood filled his nose. He was about to grab a gun when another scent became more pronounced. A familiar scent… one he just couldn’t forget.
Without a word he walked swiftly to the front of the storehouse. Light turned on, courtesy of Whistler and Blade actually felt his heart constrict. A tall, metal shelf was lying on the ground, tools scattered around, but what made Blade’s heart act out was a pale, bloody, clawed hand visible below the shelf.
With great haste he tossed the shelf to the side and kneeled beside the prone body. The smell of blood was overwhelming but somehow it didn’t call out to him… at least not in that way.
He heard Whistler approach him from behind, but he paid him no heed. He turned the body over and frowned.
Ethan Reed’s face was scratched and bloody, but he would recognize him even after a hundred years. He looked drained and tired, but Blade could see the subtle changes Ethan went through.
His facial lines were a bit sharper; gone was the baby fat.
“Reed. Reed!” Blade called and shook the young man.
“I’ll go fix the table and I’ll bring the first aid kit. You check him for… you know what…” Whistler said and limped away.
“Ethan…” Blade called and gently tapped Ethan’s cheek. Dazed, pain-filled eyes opened slightly. It took them a moment to focus.
“B…Blade?” Ethan’s voice was completely broken, weak. “I found you…” He rasped out.
“Hush… I’ve got you.” Blade said and carefully picked the broken body up, bridal stile. Ethan winced and hissed in pain, but he wound an arm around Blade’s neck and leaned closer.
“Sorry… to drop in like this…” Blade grunted.
“Took you long enough.” A broken, pain-filled chuckle was his only answer. Whistler threw him a sideways glance when Blade placed Ethan on the clean table and grabbed the first aid kit.
“You need anesthetics?” Blade asked.
“No… I’ll probably… faint in a moment or two.” Ethan said. Even like this he didn’t let go of the sarcasm.
“What happened, kid?” Whistler asked and walked to Ethan’s other side while Blade started to prepare all he will need.
“Finally got rid of the past…” Ethan rasped out and Whistler let out a low whistle.
“That past sure knew how to hurt.” He said and Ethan laughed… or tried to. Soon enough it turned in a groan and a few drops of blood splattered over his lips. Whistler frowned. “Blade…”
“He’ll make it.” The dark skinned hunter said shortly. He took some scissors and started to cut Ethan’s shirt off of him. There was no skin visible under the cuts and bruises and blood. Blade didn’t know where to start.
“You should start on my back…” Ethan rasped and tried to turn over. Blade helped him and hid a wince. Gashes and slices littered the smaller man’s back. He took a cloth and started whipping the blood off.
And thus the long night begun…
- - - -
Ethan woke up with a groan and looked around in confusion. At first he didn’t remember where he was, but when a familiar scent attracted his senses it all came back.
“You’re awake.” A gruff voice came from his right and he turned to look at the silent observer.
“Hello, Blade.” He said and offered the man a small smile. “Will I live?” He asked and tried to lift himself into a sitting position.
“Just barely.” Blade said and helped him settle into the pillows. Ethan sighed when he finally settled and looked at the tall man.
“I’m sorry for dropping in on you like that.” Ethan said. Blade grunted.
“Are you going to tell me what happened?” Blade asked and Ethan sighed.
“We do deserve to know.” Ethan frowned when Whistler spoke from the doorway. He looked at Blade.
“That’s Whistler.”
“Ah… your partner in crime.” Ethan crocked out. Whistler walked in and sat into the chair previously occupied by Blade.
“Don’t avoid the question, kid. It’s better you tell us now then later when shit hits the fan.” Whistler said and Ethan looked away from them and out the high window at the gray sky.
“Reed…”
“7 years ago…” Ethan interrupted Blade and the hunter pulled back. “I was known as Harry Potter.” Blade looked at Whistler and the two frowned.
“You’re Harry Potter?” Whistler asked and Ethan huffed.
“I was. Harry Potter died 7 years ago.” Ethan said.
“What happened?” Blade asked.
“I was reborn…”
- - - -
It took Ethan a while to explain everything to the two men. How he was killed and how he came back. How everyone thought it was only the soul of Voldemort that actually died.
He told them how his senses started to sharpen, how his body changed, how he tried to hide it from everyone, but after a while failed.
He told them how he lost everything in a matter of days. He told them how everyone turned against him, naming him a murderer, a demon… a monster.
His fiancée left him, his friends abandoned him… but they didn’t leave it at that.
They started hunting him with only one thing in mind… to end his existence.
At first he just stayed away, hoping that after some time they would leave him alone. It took him 5 years to end it all… and now he came to them to fulfill his promise to Blade.
“Are you sure you’re done?”
“Yes…” Ethan rasped out and Blade helped him drink some water.
“You have anywhere to go?” Ethan swallowed and shook his head. Whistler sighed and stood up.
“How good of a hunter are ya, kid?” Both Blade and Ethan looked at Whistler with wide eyes.
“I’m… pretty good. I have magic on my side, I am good enough with a gun although my favorite weapon is a manriki-gusari…”
“Blade will train you in the art when you get better.”
“Whistler…”
“I’ve grown old on ya, Blade. I can barely keep up with ya. The kid will be your backup and that’s final.” Whistler said and left the room leaving the two alone.
“If you want me to… I’ll leave.” Blade grunted.
“You heard the man. You’re stayin’.” Blade said and walked over to the door. “But don’t think I’ll go easy on you.” He sad before he left the room and Ethan chuckled for himself.
Maybe… just maybe… he finally found a place he belonged…
- - - - Present time - - - -
Blade woke up to find he was alone in bed and frowned. He stood up with ease and followed the enticing scent into the training room. He found Ethan sitting on a mat, his legs crossed and his hands resting on his knees, in nothing but light sleeping pants.
“You couldn’t sleep?” Blade asked.
“Quinn is alive. His signature is still there.” Blade exhaled and looked to the side.
“Burning the fucker wasn’t enough obviously.” Ethan smirked.
“You want me to go with you?” Ethan asked.
“Where is he?”
“At the forensics department.”
“I’ll go alone.” Blade was about to turn and leave but he stopped after half a step, when Ethan called for him.
“We’re low on garlic essence.” Blade smirked.
“I’ll stop by the shop, darling.” He said and Ethan huffed in annoyance.
“Bastard.” He growled but a second later he smiled a small smile. ‘My bastard…’
