Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter nor am I making any money for my writings. Yes, I agree my life sucks. ;) |
Important Info: This story is based loosely on the medieval era, so if things like calling the deaf or mute "Dumb" are extremely offensive to you, you probably shouldn't read this. Also don't read this if you don't like MPREG or SLASH, because that is exactly what this will be, there will also more than likely be sides of F/F and M/F but only on the side. In this story everyone can do magic (except a few squibs), but there won't be very many magical creatures. Maybe some pets or werewolves/vampires, but nothing like Veela, Goblins, or House Elves. :) Other than that you should be able to pick it up as you go! Enjoy!
Chapter 1:
Draconis Lucian Malfoy, Noble Prince, and Heir to the Crown of Drumstrang, sat in his throne along side his father, King Lucius Abraxian Malfoy, listening to what the soldier in front of him were saying as his eyebrows knitted together.
Only moments before, Draconis couldn’t have cared less about the meeting and would much rather be in the Parlor with his friends playing chess and debating about book or their studies. Even his father’s warning glares were not enough to halt his impatient fidgeting, though it was a heir’s responsibility to pay attention and learn the politics and traditions of the court, he still felt himself too young to take any of it seriously… until it involved him. His own name was what pulled him out of his fantasy of tea and good company and brought him to attention.
“Your majesty, the boundary lines between our Kingdom and Hufflepuff lands have been quiet for a good month now, we believe they have fallen back and are considering a treaty. However, some rather… disturbing rumors have been circulating about our Noble Prince Draconis,” began High General Nott, “It seems, that a few of the… lesser soldiers do not believe that our glorious Prince is taking his role seriously. There have been rumors of an upcoming assassination attempt my Lord.”
The High General glanced Draconis’ way and locked his eyes with bright, captivating, steal grey, before quickly bowing his head once more.
Stiffening in his chair, the King placed a protective hand on the arm of Draconis' chair and snarled, “And do we have any inkling as were these ‘rumors’ originated? Have we found the men responsible to threatening to harm the King’s only son?”
“No, my Lord,” Nott replied, flinching, “but we are working diligently and interrogating several suspects…”
Again, Draconis lost focus on the conversation, and began speculating on his own. His first death threat, the fact that it happened at all was strangely pleasing to him. It meant that someone feared him, feared him enough to do away with him. He wasn’t really very worried, his Father had incurred many threats and nothing had ever come of it. Either the perpetrators were apprehended, they were too coward to actually attempt anything, or the guards protected him. He was the crowned Prince, there was nothing to fear.
He was once again ripped from his enter musings when the slave door opened, but it was just the Underlings coming with more wood for the large fireplace. When he was a child, the Underlings, for a short time, had fascinated Draconis; he had meet plenty of other slaves be it Maids, Butlers, Nannies, Cooks, Guards, or even on occasion the Courtesans. The difference was that all of those slaves were constantly around, they spoke to each other in hushed tones, walked the halls, sat in the court yard, did many things that Draconis himself did; but Underlings came and went quickly, were meticulous in not touching anything and keeping to themselves. Every time Draconis saw them, they hurried through the slave doors, covered in clothing from head to foot, looked at and spoke to no one, did whatever job needed to be done, and left.
Once, when he was a fairly young child, Draconis had tried to speak to an Underling. He had waited politely until it was done with its task, and asked a confident, “How do you do, good Sir?” the way his Father had taught him. The Underling had paused briefly, and then left ignoring him completely. Both distraught and offended Draconis had run to his Father detailing the incident. After his Father explained what the Underlings were, Draconis began to see them in a new light and was no longer interested in them at all, if anything he now tried to avoid the Underlings.
They were the most unfortunate slaves, freaks that no one else wanted. Some misshapen and deformed, others dumb or deaf, but most were stupid and could do nothing else. His Great Great Grandfather had graciously began allowing these unfortunates to live in the Underground slave quarters that were no longer fit for the common slaves, and do the taxing or disgusting jobs that the other slaves were willing to forfeit, instead of sentencing them to death. Since the Underlings (as they had began being called by the other slaves due to their dwelling) were vile, filthy creatures, his father had explained, they were forced to cover themselves in large cloaks before surfacing. They were forbidden from touching and contaminating anything unnecessarily or speaking to anyone at all. Above all else, they were not allowed to use magic!
Draconis tensed, eyes wide, and let out a quite undignified yelp as suddenly he was pulled up out of his chair by his forearms and onto the floor. A loud explosion, a pause, loud shouts of both questions and commands, and even the light weight above him were all tuned out as Draconis was held captivated by the most beautiful sparkling emerald eyes he had ever seen.
Sooner than he would have liked the dull weight was hefted off him, and Draconis could do nothing but look on dazed as a solider threw the figure to the floor.
“How DARE you touch the Crowned Prince with your filth, Underling?!” The man snarled, as the figure dipped his head once again shielding his beautiful eyes and dirt covered face from Draconis. He was engulfed in a huge tattered, leather almost cloak. Draconis had no other words for it as it looked as though it were scrapes of multiple cow hides haphazardly stitched together into the general shape of a cloak but something about the design was not quite right, too much fabric in some places and not quite enough in others.
“Now wait just a moment!” The King exclaimed, “This…this… person, has just saved my sons life, but first where was that spell fired from?”
Draconis sat up on from the floor stunned, saved him? His eyes bugged when he finally glanced back at his thrown, it lay half splinted, ashen, and smoking as though a meteor had just crashed down unto it. Damn.
The High General fired off a detection spell, and was force to quickly lock down the room as one of the rear, lesser solider attempted to bolt toward the door.
“What a fool,” Draconis thought, “even if he had succeeded how did he expect to escape?”
The man was hauled forward by the generals and forced to kneel before the King, “My Lord, and your wish for him?”
“Put him in a holding cell,” The King replied a chillingly calm voice, “I shall discuss with my wife the execution of the man whom tried to murder our first born and only child.”
Even Draconis shivered, knowing how cruel his mother could be when it came to the safety of her baby.
“And this thing, my Lord?” Inquired the soldier standing over the huddle Underling on the floor who had not dared to regain his footing. Draconis shot up, realizing he was still on the floor. He would not allow any harm to befall those beautiful eyes or the person they belonged to.
The King looked thoughtfully at Draconis and then at the figure on the ground, “This person saved the life of the Crowned Prince, soldier, they will be rewarded of course.”
The soldier stared at the Kings in horror, “But.. but my, Lord!” A quick glare from the King quickly changed it into a, “Yes, of course, my Lord.” The King and Prince continued to gaze down at the huddled figure thoughtfully as the soldiers filed out of the throne room, once they were alone the King told even the royal guards to wait outside the doors.
“Underling, do you have a name?” The King inquired, but the figure continued to remain motionless. “Very well, do you understand that as you have saved the life of a member of the Royal Family the palace is indebted to? You could literally ask for anything you like in return and we would grant it to you.”
Still nothing.
“Underling, I am the King of this country, the rules, for now, are void. If I say you are allowed to speak or communicate in any way that you can, then you will not be punished. Can you speak, Underling? Can you understand speech?”
For a moment there was a long pause, and again Draconis thought this was going to prove fruitless. The Underling with gorgeous eyes was an unfortunate after all, which meant he had to either be dumb, stupid, or misshapen.
Just when the King was about to speak again, a clear, beautiful voice chimed scathingly, “With all do respect, your Grace, we prefer not to be called Underlings.”
The Kings’ lips twitched with amusement, “Oh, and what do you like to be called, Miss?”
The figure stiffened once again, and Draconis heard a small huff of announce from the figure. He was intrigued. The figure spoke, so she wasn’t dumb, she spoke intelligently so she wasn’t stupid, and Draconis had thus far seen two hands, two feet, a pair of stunning eyes and could see no odd protrusions. So what was wrong with the girl?
“As a whole, we just prefer servants or helpers. Personally, I prefer my name. Harrison or Harry, and I’m a boy,” the young man replied.
Ah, so the boy must be a eunuch, Draconis realized with a frown. If he had been castrated at an early age by some horrific accident if would explain both why his voice was so feminine and why his family had sent him away to live as an Underling. His Father however, seemed extremely amused, to find such a feisty spirit among the Unde- servants, he corrected himself, must be quite entertaining for him.
“Oh, my apologizes young Harrison, I will endeavor to correct my rude behavior in the future. Now that we have hurtled our first problem, what to you wish in return for the life of my son? We are indebted to you.”
The figure shrugged, “I am in need of nothing, my Lord.”
Lucius watched the boy squirm thoughtful for several moments, tapping his fingers on the arm of his throne. “Is it perhaps possible to look into the face of the person I am speaking with?” At this the boy paused, but finally pushed the hood off of his head. The boy was so filthy it was impossible to make out any details of his face other than his eyes. Draconis noticed that even Lucius was stunned by their sheer brightness and color.
Composing himself, Lucius smirked, “Perhaps it would be best… if we began with a bath.”
Draconis had to hold back his own laughter as the eunuch- Harry he corrected himself, scowled at the King, imagining that were he not so covered in muck his cheeks would be stained crimson.

A/N: Yay! You just completed chapter one! Level up! Haha, please remember to review! Tell me if you love/hate it, if there were any errors (I don't have a Beta yet), or politely point out any parts that were absolutely awful. If it was annoying to you that I kept referring to Draco as Draconis, don't worry it's part of the plot and won't continue much longer! ;) Thanks for reading! If anyone likes it, I'll whip up chapter two tomorrow or the next day! :)
Love always,
Kay
