Chapter 1

A month. Thats how long it has been since the final battle. A month since I lost my best friend, girlfriend and last pseudo family member. One whole month of sitting in Hogwarts Griffindor tower and thinking of all the ways it could have been different. I was brought out of my thoughts by someone clearing their throat. I looked over and saw the headmaster standing by the portrait entrance.

“Hello headmaster” I said in greeting

“Good evening my boy” he said with a warm voice “We missed you at dinner”

“I'm sorry, I didn't realize that it was that late” I said distractedly

“Harry” he said gently “are you alright”

I looked over to him and I could see the concern shining in his face. I turned away from him and whispered a 'yes' as I stared into the fire place. I heard him sigh as he came and sat in the chair beside mine. I was sitting in one of the large plush winged back chairs cross legged with a this blanket wrapped around me. We sat in silence for a time before he started to speak again.

“You know Harry, it doesn't matter how many times you go over every possible scenario in your head” I looked sharply to him “You can't go back and change what happened” he turned to look at me with sadness in his eyes

“I know I just...” I could feel the tears sting the back of my eyes “I just wish they were still here” I said brokenly as I brought my legs up and rested my head against my knees

“Perhaps it is time you leave the common rooms for a while” He said

“What do you mean headmaster?” I asked him

“I mean my boy, I think you should do something more productive with your time” he said gently “to get your mind off troubling thoughts”

“I don't even know what I am supposed to do now” I said as I hugged my legs “I never thought I would survive the battle with Voldemort... What should I do Professor?”

“Maybe you should pursue the knowledge of your inner animal” he said with a smile

“My inner animal?” I questioned him “what do you mean?”

“Your animagus form, my dear boy” He said with a soft chuckle “if I remember right, your fathers form was a stag”

“Thats right” I said with a small smile “How will I learn headmaster?”

“Well let me take care of that” he said with a sparkle in his eyes “I happen to know someone with extensive knowledge on animagi”

With that said he stood and gave me a pat on the head as he made his way out of the common rooms. I sighed as he left and decided to make my way to bed. After I had changed I had decided that I wasn't really tired anymore so I decided to roam the halls for a little while. I slowly made my way up to the owlery when I opened the heavy wooden doors I noticed that there was some already there. I turned and was about to leave when he called out to me.

“Potter” he said with a calm voice

“Malfoy” I said in a soft greeting

“You don't have to go” he said as he looked back to me

I noticed that the way the moonlight shone off his hair made it look like he was glowing softly. I felt a strange feeling in my chest as I continued to look at him. I quickly diverted my gaze to the floor.

“Okay” I whispered as I slowly walked over to stand next to him “so, why are you here?”

“I suppose the same reason you are” he said with a smirk

I gave him a small smile as I turned to look out the window. Me and Malfoy had reached a tentative truce during the end of the war. He and his father had defected to the light side when Voldemort had killed Mrs. Malfoy because Mr. Malfoy had failed his mission to kidnap me. The three of us even fought together in the last battle. Mr. Malfoy saved me from an extremely powerful cutting curse that would have ended my life. I am very grateful to the both of them because I don't think that I would have survived the battle without their help.

“Potter” he said as he brought me out of my thoughts

“Please call me Harry” I said as I looked at him

“Harry then” he said with a nod “I think we should start over again. Don't you think?”

I looked at him funnily and he must have noticed my confusion because he gave a low chuckle.

“Hello” He said as he stuck his hand out to me “My name is Draco Lucius Malfoy”

I looked at his hand and gave him a small laugh as I took his much larger hand in my own “Hello” I said with a smile “My name is Harry James Potter”

“Very nice to meet you Harry” he said with a small smile

“You look very nice with a smile” I said “much better than a scowl”

“Why Mr. Potter if I didn't know any better I would say that you fancy me” He said with a smirk on his face

I stepped up to him slowly and stood on my tippy toes so I was close to his face “Maybe I do” I whispered in his ear as I stepped back and walked quickly out the door with a blush staining my face. I don't know what possessed me to do what I did but I felt like some unknown force had taken over my body for a split second. I rushed back to the Griffindor Tower and buried myself under my covers till morning.

As I woke up the next day all I could think about was that stupid impulsive attempt at flirting. I thought I was straight since I had a girlfriend but now that I think about it, we never really acted like a proper couple. It was more of a platonic relationship than anything, so maybe I am gay or bisexual at least.

“This is too much thinking for so early in the morning” I mumbled to myself

I rolled out of bed and hissed as mt bare feet touched the cold floor. I slowly got ready for the day and noticed that I actually had time to go to breakfast. I made my way down the staircases and almost into the great hall only to feel someone grab my arm and pull me into an alcove. I was pushed into the wall and I felt myself get caged in by arms. I looked up and was met with the scowling face of Draco.

“I don't appreciate being made a fool of Harry” he hissed at me

“I-I don't know what you are talking about” I stuttered out

Next thing I know I'm being shoved harder into the stone wall behind me. I groaned and could feel the sting of tears as I squeezed my eyes tightly together. 'I hate this pathetic thing I have become' I thought angrily to myself as I felt the first tear run down my cheek. I felt Draco squeeze my arms tighter as he gave a angry huff and marched out of the small alcove. I waited there for a couple of minutes to regain my emotions before I followed him out. As I stepped into the great hall I could feel his gaze burn into me but I steadily ignored it.

I silently sat down at the table and just looked at the food. I had lost my appetite after the encounter with Draco but I felt like I owed it to Dumbledore to at least stay for the whole meal. Speaking of the Headmaster, I saw him make his way towards me. I noticed that now that the war is over he looked like a proper old man. He slumped over as he walked and had a slight shuffle in his step. I came to a stop next to me and gave me a gentle smile.

“Harry my boy” he said with his sparkling blue eyes “meet me after breakfast in my office. I believe I have found you a teacher, the password is blood pops”

“Yes Headmaster” I replied with a slight smile

After our small chat I watched as he slowly made his way back to the professors table. As my eyes looked around the room they unknowingly made contact with stormy gray eyes. I quickly looked down at the table in front of me. As I was staring at the table I felt someone sit beside me, I looked over and noticed bushy brown hair.

“Hermione” I said in surprise “what are you doing here? I thought you had decided to go home till school started again”

“The Headmaster sent me an owl” she said with a slight smile “He said you were going to learn how to find your animagi form as offered me the same proposition”

“So we will be learning together then?” I said

“Yes, I suppose so” she said

“Well the Headmaster said to meet him at his office after breakfast” I said to her “but I don't see him now so why don't we just head over there now?”

“That sounds like a good idea” Hermione said with a smile

With that said we both made our way down the familiar hallway to the stone goblin. We gave the password and rode the revolving staircase up and right to his door. I knocked and as we entered I saw the last person I wanted to see sitting in one of the wing backed chairs.

“Ahh Harry Hermione” the headmaster said “ I hope you don't mind but I have also invited Draco to join us”

“Not at all Headmaster” Hermione said “so who is it that you have gotten to teach us?”

“I'm glad you asked he should be here any moment now”

As he said that the floo came to life and out came the regal looking Lucius Malfoy. I couldn't believe my luck, of all the people he could have gotten Dumbledore just had to get Mr. Malfoy. I saw him scan our small group and when his eyes landed on me they stayed for a second longer than the others and he gave me a smirk that just told me that this was not going to be a very pleasurable experience.

'well just fuck me now fate' I thought bitterly
