Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter. That lucky duck JK Rowling does. I don't make any money from this fanfic. I just play with her toys and put them back in relatively good condition. |
AN: I'm Baaa-aaaack. So, it's not the two weeks I said but I did get to it. Like it says in the description, this story takes place 18 years after the fall of Voldemort in Bound. Fair warning, this story is quite a bit darker than Bound, not Saw or anything but much darker although there is humor. If you haven't read Bound, I highly encourage you to do so or you will be very lost. I also would like to let you all know that Bound is now fully edited and complete with important things like spelling and grammar. How in the world did you guys put up with me? Ya'll are saints! Now, on to the story.
It’s time.
Merlin how he hated those words. Nemesis had spoken them only once but he didn’t need to hear them again. They haunted him at night, filtering through his dreams and waking him up in a cold sweat. They signaled the start of their life’s purpose, protecting the world from spinning off its axis. This last mission had been the worst, not hard, just horrible.
“Draco, you alright?” Hermione murmured in his ear and rubbed his shoulders. You’re staring off into space.
“Are you sure about that?” Draco smiled at his wife. Eighteen years and she looked just as she had the day he married her. Then again, that was probably because they were the pure couple, made of opposite polarities of magic. It extended life by centuries. She’d be young for decades yet.
“Well, I know you aren’t thinking about me.” Hermione smirked and looked pointedly at his crotch. “You have a distinct lack of interest that exists when you do.”
“Alright you caught me,” Draco sighed. “I was thinking about this weekend.”
“Still worried?”
“Not really worried, just…wary. I don’t want to see anything like we did last time.” He shuddered. Just remembering the smell of the dungeon was enough to put his teeth on edge.
“Me either,” Hermione breathed. “This is the last one, right?”
“Well, besides my copy,” Draco added and went back to his paperwork. “We should be done.”
“Three years of searching,” Hermione whispered.
“It’s apparently worth it,” Draco snorted and signed his name to his last file. “There. All done.”
“Not so fast Dragon,” Hermione said. “We’ve still got a little girl who needs her eyes repaired.”
“Because her father is an idiotic git,” Draco grumbled. “I read the case, left his cauldron at a high boil in the middle of the bloody living room. Real responsible, that one. Makes me tempted to hex his bollocks off so he can’t reproduce anymore.”
Hermione sniggered. “Well, if his wife is anything to go by, he won’t for a very long time.”
“Maybe she has some redeeming qualities,” Draco admitted. “Alright then, let’s go heal her. Wait. We have the room to ourselves, don’t we?”
Hermione sighed. “No. Healer Bracken wanted to sit in on this one. He doesn’t believe we can heal her.”
Draco scoffed. “I swear, the man is Umbridge reincarnated.”
“Worse.” Hermione chuckled but sobered quickly. “It does present a problem though. He can’t see this.”
“I know,” Draco growled. “I hate to do this but we’ll have to call her again.”
“I highly doubt she’d be that put out. You know Melody loves to mess with people.”
“Yes, definitely her favorite pastime.”
“Yours too dear.” Hermione knocked her shoulder into him playfully.
“I fully admit that I love to watch her work. I’ll call her now.”

“No Mr. Cornwall, the jelly legs jinx does not actually turn your legs into jelly. It merely makes them rubbery and hard to walk on.”
Melody sighed. She was getting tired of this already. She knew Cornwall was a muggleborn but it was like he didn’t care one whit about anything, including reading his assignment.
“Ms. Bach?”
“Yes Miss Tenderweather?” Melody sighed.
“What does the cruciatis feel like?”
Melody bolted upright in her chair, realizing that she’d been reclining on her arm. That was not a normal first year question for Defense Against the Dark Arts. Mary Tenderweather had a gentle aura surrounding her and she knew instinctively that it was a perfectly innocent question but most first years had never even heard of Unforgivables, let alone knew their proper names. She decided to dig a bit deeper.
“Do you mind my asking why you would want to know such a thing?”
“I, I um…my uncle lives in England…in the hospital there. He was…um…they used it on him during the war. He’s, he’s not right. He shakes a lot and says silly things.” Mary ducked her head, her straw colored hair falling forward and covering her embarrassment.
“I see,” Melody said softly. “Well, there is a good reason for that. This is hardly a first year lesson, but since you asked, I’ll answer it briefly. Imagine the worst pain you have ever felt, broken bones, ruptured appendix, any pain really. Increase it by one hundred. The curse attacks the nerves which is why your uncle probably shakes a lot. It’s very hard to cure if you’ve been held under the curse for very long.”
Another hand shot up and she dreaded this one. Bart Solomon was a troublemaker. It was only the first day at Salem Academy and he had already set a dung bomb off in the dining hall and cast a spell that misfired and set flame to the Headmistress’s favorite hat. She just knew he was going to make an issue of it.
“Yes Mr. Solomon.”
“How would you know?” Bart’s face was set in a little sneer that made her want to smack his little beady black eyes out of his greasy head.
“I’ve experienced it,” Melody said darkly. “Now-“
Before she could continue, her compact chirped like a hummingbird. She held her hand up to stave off any questions and opened her two way mirror.
“Melody!” Draco said happily before his face fell. “You in class?”
“Yup, but did you need something?” Melody asked hopefully, anything to get the torture to stop.
“I need a…testimonial.”
“Really? Whatever for?” Melody’s eyebrows were nearly in her hair line with surprise.
“New Healer in Charge, Bracken, doesn’t believe we can fix eyes by ourselves. He wants to watch.”
Melody growled. “You’ve been fixing eyes since you were teens! I suppose you need my…um, eyewitness account?”
“That would be exceedingly helpful,” Hermione called from over Draco’s shoulder.
“Hello sweetheart. Who’s the patient?”
“She’s five, got a face full of nerve exploding potion,” Draco said. It wasn’t hard to tell he was cross.
“What in the hell was she doing near it?”
“That’s the best part,” Draco growled. “It was brewing in the living room.”
“Jesus, Merlin, and Moldy in a pink thong,” Melody exclaimed. Several students in the class gasped at her horrific swear and she was hard pressed not to color.
Draco, on the other hand, was almost doubled over in laughter. “I’m going to have to remember that one.”
“You do that,” Melody smirked. “I think Sev’s free this period. I’ll come as soon as I can.”
“Thanks. We owe you one…again.” Draco smiled and ended the connection.
“Who was that?” Solomon again.
“Someone who could crush you like a cockroach, heal you, and then do it again,” Melody said curtly. “Now, since it looks like none of you have bothered to crack a book open, you will do so now. Take out your first year defense book, turn to page 57, and read over the glossary of minor jinxes. I expect you each to pick one and write one roll of parchment on the spell, what it does, how to cast it, and how to counter it.”
Melody congratulated herself on ignoring the groans and opened the compact again. “Sev,” she whispered into it.
“You rang?” Severus drawled as his face came into focus.
“Hey, do you have a free period right now and next period?”
“Of course.” Severus furrowed his eyebrows. “Something wrong?”
“I have to pop over to St. Mungo’s right quick. Can you watch my classes while I’m gone?”
“I’ll be right there.” Severus promptly snapped the connection.
Melody busied herself with putting her compact back and making sure she had her port key on her. This wasn’t the first time they’d had to call her to cover for them. In eighteen years, the novelty of Draco and Hermione’s power had never worn off. They’d made her proud, both earning their Healing titles and Muggle MDs. They had the rare ability to do advanced healing but they still couldn’t tamp down their magic build up enough for others to witness it.
“I didn’t think teachers were allowed to conduct personal mirror calls.” Damn that Solomon.
The door flew open and banged against the wall. Most of the class jumped in shock. “Ms. Bach is your teacher and you will show her the proper amount of respect,” Severus growled. “That will be two demerits for your snide comment and a detention with Mr. Haggis tonight.”
“That’s not fair!” Solomon cried.
“Ms. Bach?” Severus drawled.
“He’s right. It isn’t fair. That’s twice he’s spoken out of turn and three times he’s been rude to an authority figure,” Melody said coolly.
“Indeed.” Severus glared at the boy who was now quailing under his stare. He still had it. “In that case, four more demerits and detention tomorrow as well. Would you care to go for more?”
The greasy haired boy paled a bit and lowered his eyes. “No sir.”
“Wise choice,” Severus hissed and stalked over to Melody. He spoke under his breath so no one could hear them. “What’s the problem?”
“Draco and Hermione have to heal a little girl who got a face full of nerve exploder. Their new Healer in Charge insists on being a voyeur, doesn’t believe they can do it.”
“That’s preposterous!” Severus bellowed and bit back a smirk when several of the students squeaked in fright.
“It is, but I can’t change his mind from here.” Melody sighed. “You know I’m the only one strong enough to cast the illusion while they cast in tandem.”
“I do. Try to hurry back. Whorple is about as understanding as a basilisk.”
Melody chuckled. “Probably worse. I’ll be back as soon as I can. Hopefully they can heal her quickly.”
“How in the devil did she get doused?”
“Someone was brewing it in the living room.” Melody watched patiently as several different emotions played over her best friend’s face. Anger was the main one. “Don’t worry. I’ll hex them stupid when I find out more.”
“You’d better,” Severus snipped and motioned for her to get up.
“Do me a favor Sev.” Melody got up and grabbed her port key, her eyes wandering around the room. “Keep an eye on Solomon. He’s…not right. Call it…a hunch.”
“As you wish,” Severus said softly and sat down in her chair.
“Class, I have to step out for a moment but I’m leaving you in the very capable hands of your potions master, Professor Snape. Do mind him. He’s not well known for tolerance.” She smirked at her friend and breezed out the door, trying to get outside as soon as she could.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
“I’m sorry,” Hermione said as gently as she could, trying to position her body between Bracken and the alarmed woman. “I understand that you are very concerned for your little one but you must understand that it is too dangerous for you to remain in the room with her. The sheer amount of magic that will be floating around could interfere with your own.”
“But won’t that be dangerous for her!” The little girl’s mother was beside herself with worry.
“On the contrary,” Draco said softly, letting a bit of his vampire magnetism wash over the woman. He had never been so glad for his bond to Severus. The magnetism never failed to calm someone down enough to be reasonable. “She’ll be the safest person in the room.”
“I’ve heard about these types of healings,” the mother said a bit breathlessly. Her eyes were starting to dilate from the thrall. “You need an entire team. How old are you two anyway?”
“We’re thirty five,” Hermione said softly. “And we don’t need a team. We can take care of it ourselves.”
“You don’t look thirty five,” the woman said doubtfully. “And that’s awful young to be so powerful.”
“She’s right you know,” Melody said, breezing down the hall toward them. “You still look like babies. Nevertheless,” she continued as she walked up to the frightened woman. “I can vouch for these two. They are the very best of the very best. You’re little girl should be right as rain after this.”
“How do you know?” The woman asked, her eyes narrowed in suspicion.
“Because I used to be blind.” Melody smiled and took off her sunglasses. Her jade green eyes sparkled under the magically enhanced lighting. “They restored my eyesight when they were merely teenagers. In fact, Mr. Malfoy was just sixteen, under the age of consent.”
“How were you blinded?” The woman asked curiously.
“Backhanded by a werewolf.” Melody shrugged. “Now, will you let them heal your little girl? Every moment they waste is a moment she could be recovering.”
The woman choked back a sob and nodded. A few nurses appeared to lead her back to the waiting room.
“Thanks for that,” Draco said softly.
“No problem. Now, mind cutting it off? I’m pretty sure a few people are drooling.” Melody smirked.
“Oh, sorry.” Draco blushed and cut the thrall off. “It makes some of them more compliant.”
“I didn’t say it wasn’t a good idea.” Melody chuckled. “Now, where is he?”
“Bracken?” Draco called out.
“I’m here.” A portly man strutted out into the middle of the hallway. “And who might this be?”
“Professor Melody Bach, Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Salem Academy for the Magically Gifted in America,” Melody said, enunciating each word as primly as she could before she shook the man’s hand.
“Dark Arts you say,” Bracken hummed.
“Honestly, that was the only thing you got?” Melody blurted out and shook her head.
“You can’t blame me for being curious, Miss Bach,” Bracken said in an oily voice. “You Americans may not know it, but the Dark Arts are a touchy subject over here in England.”
Melody snorted. “It might surprise you Bracken, but I am probably more aware of the war than you. Nevertheless, if you were actually listening, you would know that I teach defense, as in the thwarting of Dark Arts.”
Bracken’s eyes narrowed in anger. “And why are you here?”
“To keep your ass alive apparently. You insist on watching these two work. I highly recommend you don’t. That is the easiest way I know to end up in the Magical Malady unit.”
“What are you saying?”
Melody rubbed the bridge of her nose. “Mr. Bracken-“
“Healer Bracken,” the pompous man broke in.
“Whatever,” Melody growled. “Have you ever sat in on a healing of this magnitude before?”
“Once before,” Bracken blustered.
“I see.” Melody pursed her lips. “How many people were in on the healing?”
“Twelve.”
Melody nodded. “And how were they formed?”
“Pardon?”
“How were those healers standing, what formation were they using?”
“A, well, a triangle.”
“Exactly,” Melody said condescendingly. “The triangle formation is used to protect the casters from the backlash. The only other person who is safe from it is the object of the cast. Therefore, unless you have a shield that can stop the power of twelve healers, you’re going to be in an extraordinary amount of pain.”
“So why are you here then?”
Melody smiled slowly, her face looking much like a shark about to bite into its prey. “I’m here to cast the shield.”
“What?”
“You heard Bracken. I’m going to stand outside the door and cast a shield so no one dies from backlash.”
Bracken spluttered a moment and then seemed to regain himself. “But you just said-“
“That only a person with a shield that can stop the power of twelve healers is safe,” Melody said blandly, staring at her nails as if she was bored. “Surely you have the brain power to deduct what I’m saying.”
“No one is that powerful,” the healer scoffed.
Melody chuckled. “How powerful do you think Voldemort was?”
The healer paled, his eyes going wide at the audacity of the woman to utter the name of the despot that was vanquished nearly two decades ago. “He- he was.”
“A very powerful wizard,” Melody said softly. “And I can guarantee you his power was no match for that of Albus Dumbledore and yet it took a mere boy to defeat him. I ask you this Healer. How many more powerful wizards are there out there?”
“You’re threatening me?” Bracken bluffed.
Melody scoffed. “Hardly. I’m simply saying that power is relative. I can’t heal the child on my own but I can hold a shield up to prevent others getting hurt. Now, will you step aside and let them work or are we going to have a little chat with the board of directors on how you are endangering your patients’ lives as well as your staff?”
“What?” Bracken all but yelled in outrage.
Melody gave him a patronizing smile. “Run along Bracken and go find out who you’re messing with.”
The portly healer shuffle stepped his way to the lifts, outrage pouring out from every step.
“Git,” Draco sniffed.
“Worse,” Melody said softly. “He used to serve Voldemort.”
“You’re joking,” Hermione breathed.
“Afraid not,” Melody sighed. “I can see his Mark, plain as the nose on his big fat face.”
“He still the same?” Draco asked, his lips a thin line.
“I can ask Harmony but from what I can see, he really does want to heal. Well, where is this poor little girl…and what in the hell were her parents thinking?” Melody growled.
“It’s the father, if you want to call him that,” Draco grumbled. “Didn’t seem to care that he was brewing a dangerous potion in his living room. He was angrier that his daughter had the audacity to interrupt his work.”
“I think I should have a chat with him,” Melody said darkly.
“We can have a chat together later,” Draco said. “For now, little Henrietta is terrified that she’ll never see again.”
Draco and Hermione leaned against the far wall of the private room while Melody explained to five year old Henrietta Marlow exactly what was going to happen and how it would feel. They couldn’t help but smile at her bedside manner. For all her griping about having to teach a bunch of idiots, she sure had a way with children.
‘You think she ever wanted more?’ Draco asked Hermione in a thought.
‘I think she might have at one point,’ Hermione answered. ‘I see her glancing at baby stores once in a while but I think she’s content with what she has.’
‘Sad though, that Alex can’t give her any.’
‘We don’t always get what we want,’ Hermione countered.
‘Got that right. Then again, sometimes we get exactly what we need.’ Draco slung his arm around his wife and held her close. He still marveled sometimes at how his top three enemies had become his best friends and one even became his wife. Yes, sometimes one gets exactly what they need.
“Ready?” Melody asked.
The broke from their mental conversation and nodded. Melody had fibbed just a little bit when talking to Bracken. Truthfully, someone could stand in the room while they were healing. However, magical backlash was always a concern. It hadn’t happened to them yet, but it could. However, Melody hadn’t lied about her power. If anyone was strong enough to place a protective shield around them, it was her.
After checking one last time to make sure they were alone, they started the process of building their power up. This process was why they didn’t want others to see them. The sheer amount of power they summoned was enough to flood the room with a brilliant white light and lift them off the ground. Wind whipped around them and made their clothing flap against their bodies. When they felt their magic bubbling through their veins, they released, putting all their intent into repairing little Henrietta’s eyesight. It was a grueling process, one that took an hour and a half to complete. It would have taken longer, but Melody was quite familiar with the potions that were to be consumed as well. It was draining but in the end, little Henrietta could see again and that was all that mattered.
“You two okay?” Melody asked when they reached the break room.
Draco and Hermione were tired, so very tired after using up so much of their energy. It wasn’t often that they attempted a healing like that but it was why they were called in on the hard cases. Since they’d gotten married and worked on their degrees in tandem, they’d stuck to mainly basic healing. They’d worked in an American ward for a while to hone their major injury skills but the commute across countries and the time difference was highly taxing. They’d been working at St. Mungo’s for a few years and yet they were still treated as oddities. Apparently, the scars of the war ran deep, even if the memories of who they were didn’t. Sometimes, that was a blessing too.
“We just need a break. Shift ends in ten minutes anyway.” Hermione said and drank her coffee.
“Good.” Melody nodded. “Finish up your paperwork and come to Salem with me. It’ll be lunchtime there soon. You can rest, eat, I’ll rustle you up a pepper up potion, and then we can discuss the mission this weekend.”
“Ugh.” Draco shuddered. “I’d successfully forgotten about it. Thanks a lot.”
“I know last time was hard,” Melody said sadly. “But we’re almost done. Maybe we can rest.”
“Not bloody likely,” Draco growled. “But we’ll come with you. Anything to keep from seeing Bracken again.”
Melody chuckled. “Well, when he figures out that I have a seat on the board, he’ll be singing a different tune.”
“How did you manage that anyway?” Hermione asked.
“Called in a favor with Albus when I heard you two would be working here. I haven’t used it yet but one can never have too many aces up their sleeve.”
“Slytherin.” Draco chuckled.
“Perhaps.” Melody grinned. “Come on, finish up so we can get out of here. I might just go find little Henrietta’s dad while I wait.”
“Just don’t maim him,” Draco said tiredly. “I don’t want to have to stay late.”
“Oh, they’ll be no maiming,” Melody said evasively and disappeared.
“Should we be worried?” Hermione asked.
“No.” Draco smirked. “But he should.”
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
“Good morning class,” Severus said, trying to fight down the sarcasm in his voice.
He couldn’t believe he was back teaching again, let alone covering for Melody’s classes while she helped Draco and Hermione with their healing. He figured he’d retire and go into potioneering, creating new and sought after creations. He’d done well for himself, creating a fertility potion based on light magic rather than dark. It had made him a small fortune but the fates had other things in store for him…like teaching potions in America.
Granted, most people in America either didn’t have a clue who Severus Snape was, or they didn’t care and that suited him just fine. The hundreds of fan letters he’d received had been enough to put him off of public outings. Here he was free to move about without people bombarding him with hundreds of questions. Did he really love Lily Potter enough to die for her son? Did he really marry Celeste because she looks like Lily? Was he really Dumbledore’s man all along? It was tiring. No. America was much better. At least his children could still attend Hogwarts. They were safe there and the professors would protect his children with their lives if they could.
“I realize that I am not the professor that was announced to be teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts this year. You’re regular teacher, Ms. Bach, had an urgent errand to run and I will be filling in for her today. You’ll see her next time.”
Hands rose in the air and he had to fight the urge to hex each and every one of them.
“Yes?” He pointed to a little ginger haired girl in the back.
“You ain’t from here,” she said, her head cocked.
He almost laughed. Almost. “No, I am not. I am from England.”
“Why you here then?” She asked, her little southern lilt was almost charming.
“I am here to teach you.”
Another hand rose in the air, the owner practically hopping up and down in their chair.
“Sorry Miss Winters, question Professor Snape time is over,” Melody said breezily as she walked in.
“Back so soon?” Severus asked.
“They’re faster than they used to be,” Melody murmured and averted her eyes. In truth, she’d run out before anyone could see what she’d done to little Henrietta’s father. Needless to say, he wouldn’t be brewing in front of his child for a very, very long time.
Severus wasn’t buying it. “Look at me.”
“I’d rather not,” Melody huffed and yanked out her lesson plans for her class. “Now, how far have you gotten?”
“We’ve established that I’m not from here,” Severus said flatly, aggravated that Melody was being so evasive.
Melody chuckled. “Well, obviously. Thank you for your assistance Professor Snape, but it is no longer needed.”
“Indeed,” Severus said and began stalking over to her desk, slowly so as not to alarm her.
“Now, my name is Professor Bach and I will be teaching you Defense Against the Dark Arts for your duration here at Salem. I realize that you are all first years, and as such, have had no formal training in the magical arts.” Melody began to address her class and froze when she realized what Severus was doing.
“I suggest you stop Severus,” she whispered.
“You will look at me,” he said softly.
“I will fight you on this.”
“What have you done?”
“Nothing that you wouldn’t have,” she snapped, trying to keep her eyes downcast.
“Now that is curious,” Severus drawled and then continued in a louder voice. “I believe a demonstration is in order, don’t you Professor?”
“You wouldn’t,” Melody sneered, her eyes coming to rest on the onyx eyes of the best Legilimens she’d ever come across. Her shields were up but he always had a way of getting past hers.
“You obviously don’t know me well enough then,” Severus sniffed.
“If I give you what you want, will you desist and leave?” Melody practically snarled at him.
“For now.”
“Fine. Take it you-“
“Ah, ah, language.” Snape smirked and pointed his wand in between Melody’s eyes. He was immensely pleased that she didn’t even flinch. “Legilimens!”
He traveled through her mind to her recent journey. Bracken was a first class wanker in his book but his Death Eater status merited further research. He couldn’t help but be proud as he watched his children heal a small little girl. Then he slowed down on their conversation afterwards. So, his children were coming to visit and plan. They would need to. Their last trip almost broke them. Truth be told, it rattled him greatly. Ah, there it was, the reason Melody was evasive. He watched it in slow motion.
“Mr. and Mrs. Marlow?” Melody called into the waiting room and held back the urge to rip them to shreds when they stood.
The woman, Severus recognized, was the same one that was standing outside the room. Draco had used his thrall to convince her to leave. He could see that she was innocent, caring only for her child. Melody informed them both that their little girl was going to be fine and that the Healers would come in to speak with them soon. Then she urged the mother to go check on little Henrietta but held the father back.
“I’d like a word with you in private Mr. Marlow,” Melody said softly, the tone in her voice all but gentle. There was no arguing with her when she was in this mood.
“What’s this about?” The man sneered. His receding brown hair was swept into a comb over. His teeth were crooked and yellowed and if Melody’s disgust was anything to go by, his breath was atrocious. Severus wanted to punch him and then hex him.
“Why did you think it was a good idea to brew a highly dangerous and volatile potion in the main room of your home?”
“It’s my bloody home and I’ll do as I like. It isn’t my fault that brat came in and ruined everything.”
That did it. Melody snapped. She had him up against the wall, her eyes glowing indigo, fangs fully extended. She proceeded to threaten him within an inch of his life and then hex him to hell and back. None of them would require medical attention, but he would be more than miserable for several months following. It would probably be even longer before he could have sex again. Then she erased the visual image of her and her relation to the healers but left the fear and the knowledge that she’d placed a distress tracker on Henrietta in case something like that happened again. No. Mr. Marlow would definitely never put his daughter in danger again.
“Well done,” Severus chuckled as he pulled out of her mind.
“What?” Melody asked in alarm. “I-I lost it.”
“Of course you did. I would expect no less,” Severus said, a smile in his voice. “And it was brilliant. I’ll go now. They should be arriving soon.”
“Um, thank you?” Melody said with a furrowed brow. She was sure Severus would hex her a new one for losing her temper like that. She shrugged it off and continued with her class, half of her mind on the upcoming task that was ahead.
In truth, Severus would have hexed her but she covered her tracks beautifully. If he were honest with himself, he wasn’t sure he could have kept from losing his temper in the same situation. He hadn’t had to discipline himself that strictly in a very long time and children were his weak spot now, having four, well, technically eight of his own.
He sat down behind his desk and pulled out his pensive. He’d need to study up on Draco and Hermione’s last trip before he could contribute to the planning of their next mission. After locking and warding his door against intrusion, he plunged his face into the silvery liquid and immersed himself in their memories. He was inserted into a forest. A familiar castle lay just ahead of him.
