Chapter One- Intro

“You want me to WHAT?????!!!”

“Calm down Jamie! You’re acting like I asked you to let him move in with us.”

“No! Just ruin our spring break right.”

“Jamie it won’t be that bad. Besides, he’s going to be all alone and he’s my friend.” James Potter looked into the big bright green eyes of his longtime girlfriend, Lilly Evens, and knew he wouldn’t be able to deny her anything much longer.

‘She’s right. It’s only three weeks, how bad can it be? Plus Lilly will be with me……I can always set him up with Lilly’s sister, why not, they are both tall, skinny, and unpleasant to be around'

"James are you listening to me.?”

"Huh, oh yeah. Ok, fine! He can come, but he’s pitching in this ain’t a free ride and if he even thinks about being rude to my folks he’s sleeping in the garage.”

“Ha-ha! Ok, I’ll talk to Severus and make sure he behaves himself, but you have to be good to you know. It’s not always him that starts it.”

“I don’t what you’re talking about, I’m always good.”

“I don’t want to go. I’ll be perfectly alright here. I am more then capable of taking care of myself.” Pitch black eyes glared at the auburn haired woman across from him.

“Come on Severus. You don’t really want to stay here all by yourself for three weeks, do you?” Lilly pleaded for her friend to accept the invitation to spend spring break together.

“I don’t see why I would WANT to go if it means staying with Potter and his family, when you are clearly the only one wanting me to accompany you.” Severus looked to his friend and continued to give good valid arguments for all her urgings.

“My house isn’t big enough and my parents would never go for a guy staying with us, especially since they love Jamie. So please Severus……. for me.”

‘Oh bloody hell; I don’t know how Potter ever wins a fight with this one.’ With a sigh of defeat Severus meet Lilly’s gaze.

“Alright! Fine! But if he insists on continuing to act like a jackass I’m on the first flight back.”

“YES!! Oh, thank you Severus! I promise your going to have a fun. You’re going to love Colorado and I will make sure James is on his best behavior. Now……lets pack!”

“NO! NO! NO! Absolutely not! I’ve changed my mind. I’m not going.” Severus was very tempted to cross his arms and stomp his feet, but of course a dignified Englishmen such as himself did not do such things. Instead he stood stalk still and glared at James Potter.

“Oh come on Severus you said you’d come with us. It’s really not all that bad.” It was painfully obvious that Lilly was trying to convince herself more then she was trying to convince Severus.

“I agreed to go when I was under the impression that we would be flying, not driving 19 hours!” Pulling himself up to his full 6’4” frame Severus grabbed his bag and turned to walk away.

“Please Severus it would really mean a lot to me if you got to meet my family.” Those words stopped Severus in his tracks. He was no fool and even though the words were delivered through Potter’s clenched teeth, they came from the same place that made Severus agree, their love for Lilly and want to make her happy. This time Severus did roll his eyes as he walked back to the car.

“With a lovely invitation such as that how can I refuse?” The two men glared at each other for a moment before Lilly through her arms around them both.

“Thank you so much guys!! Now we are leaving at nine o’clock tonight so that will put us in Denver around like seven and that includes pit stops and stuff. So I suggest getting as much sleep as possible right now, we will meet back her at 8:30pm and drive in shifts. Good night guys.” She gave them both a kiss on the cheek and left for her dorm room, leaving both men behind staring at her. Severus turned to take his own leave and get some sleep before they left latter that day.

“I’m asking her to marry me.”

“Excuse me?” Severus turned to Potter with a long elegant eyebrow lifted.

“I said you haven’t got a chance in hell. We’ve known each other since we were five. Dated all through high school and I’m going to ask her to marry me over break. So whatever plan you’ve got in her head it won’t work.”

‘Stupid idiot.’ Severus thought with a sigh.

“I assure you Potter; my feelings for Lilly are of a platonic or sibling nature. She reminds me a great deal of my own baby sister, whom I miss very much. I find the home sickness lessens in Lilly’s company.” Without another word or waiting for a reply Severus turned and left, leaving Potter mouth agape feeling abit like a jackass.

“Come on James we’ve been driving for eight hours!!! Can we please stop for some food and coffee? I’ll even drive next shift.” Lilly had been apparently dying of hunger for the last two hours, begging Potter to pull over. Severus sat in the back seat with his Zune® and Kindel® reading what ever books he had currently downloaded. But even the lovely vocals of Evanescence and Adele couldn’t block out Lilly’s constant whining.

“For fuck sake Potter we’re all hungry, will you please stop at the next diner!!”

“Ok, ok, ok. Fine! There is a Village Inn and a weigh station off the next exit, we need gas anyway.” Pulling into the weigh station James let the other two passengers out of the Chevy Tahoe and pilled up to a pump to fill the tank. Severus and Lilly stretched out all the kinks and cramps before entering the dinner to get a table and order some drinks. Once seated Severus excused himself to use the restroom. Upon his return he noticed that Potter had joined them and was whispering sweet nothings into Lilly’s ear causing her to giggle. Severus cleared his throat to make his presence acknowledged.

“Oh Severus there you are, I ordered you a water with lemon cause I didn’t know what you wanted to drink.”

“Thank you Lilly that will be fine.” It was now Lilly’s turn to excuse herself but not before she told James exactly what she wanted in case the waitress came by while she was gone. Usually not one for small talk Severus felt the urge to fill the silence.

“So Potter do you have any siblings?” In all honesty Severus didn’t care but felt the need to know if he needed to prepare to protect himself from more Potters. Lost in his thoughts of not caring Severus completely missed the answer and was interrupted by the waitress before he could ask potter to repeat himself.

“Hi I’m Rose, are we ready or do we still need a few moments.” James ordered his and Lilly’s food before she turned to Severus.

“Can I get a coke and the Ranch Chicken sandwich please?” Closing his menu and handing it to the waitress he completely missed the look of envy that crossed James face as the waitress melted at the sound of his voice. Lilly came back and sat down next to James just as the waitress was walking away to put in their order with a glazed look in her eyes.

“You did that voice thing didn’t you?” Lilly couldn’t help but giggle and press closer onto James’ sided.

“I’m sure I don’t know what you mean my dearest Lilly.” Severus smirked into his drinking glass as he took a drink in order to avoid talking anymore.

“Yeah right! I know the look she had. You do this every time we go out to eat. You know I bet we’ll get some free pie.” Lilly continued to giggle as Severus feigned innocence.

“I absolutely hate to admit it but she was putty the minute you opened your mouth Severus.” Severus and Lilly both stared at James in shock.

“What?!? I’m man enough to appreciate good game when I see it.” At this all three travelers in the booth began to laugh out loud, well a small chuckle in Severus’ case.

“I must admit, I have used my supper power for dubious purposes a time or two.” The group laughed even harder at this. The car ride was made in silence except for the radio playing softly in the background, when suddenly.

“Four! Four Severus! You got four free pieces of pie not to mention the phone number of almost every waitress in the diner.”

“I got to admit Severus that was mighty impressive.” James and Severus couldn’t help but lock eyes as Jamie looked into the rearview mirror. Severus gave a small smirk and nod to the reflection.

“Don’t take this the wrong way Lilly but American women are incredibly easy when it comes to an English accent.”

“Non-taken Severus, I agree, girls just go all gooey for it. Why do you think I started taking to you in the first place, I just wanted to hear you talk some more.”

“Please tell me you’re joking.” James whined as he glared at his girlfriend. Lilly could only giggle and change the subject. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

“Severus, I think you were right, next time we fly.” Lilly groaned as she stretched her long limbs as she got out of the car.

“Tag your in Jamie. I’m going to go potty.” Lilly ran into the gas station to use there restroom.

“Hey at least we already crossed into Colorado, we’ll hit Denver in about six hours. I suggest we use the restroom too. We should probably get some munchies as well.” Jamie said looking at Severus and headed into the store after Lilly. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

When Severus had first arrived in the states, he thought San Jose was beautiful but he must admit that the mountains of Colorado were breath taking. The sounds of Stained, Chevel, and Woolgather filled his ears as the buildings of Denver pass by. Tall buildings soon turn into shops by the highway. Once off the highway shops turn into apartments and homes. James pulled into a gated community called Huntington Trails and sighed.

“Finally I’m home. Lills you should call your folks and tell them we have arrived.” With a small nod Lilly pulled out her cell phone and called her parents.

“Alright Severus, I know we don’t really get along but for the sake of a fun spring break let call a truce, at least in public.” “Agreed Potter.” Severus put away his gadgets just as James pulled into the driveway of a large house. Once the car was parked and the three of them stepped out of the vehicle the front door to the house opened revealing a lovely looking women in her 40’s, long black hair, small delicate features.

‘Mrs. Potter no doubt.' Severus’ thoughts were confirmed when he heard James.

“Hi mom!” But to Severus’ amusement the women ran to Lilly and greeted her first.

“Lilly darling! It’s been so long! I’m so happy you made it home safe and sound. Come in, come in. Dinner will be ready soon. James stop dawdling and bring the bags into the house.” James just stared at the retreating backsides of the two women as they walked into the house, shaking his head.

“Of course, the daughter she never had. Shut up and help me get the bags.” Severus let out a snort of laughter at Mrs. Potter’s antics towards Lily. It was painfully obvious that she loved the girl dearly.

“I’ll show you to the guest room and the bathroom, Give us both a chance the freshen up before dinner.” The two men grabbed the bags and walked into the house. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
