Standing in the living room area of Spinners End, Harry had his fingers dug into his hair, groaning in frustration as he looked around. The place was packed to the ceiling with boxes. In fact, there was only a small walkway through most of the downstairs because it was crammed with the things. All of them were the result of Claude and Mimi moving his things from the house in France. Most of them had been shrunk, making it easier, but there were things that couldn't be done with so there were still plenty that weren't, making it hard to navigate through the place. Couple that with the stress of coming back to Britain and he was about to lose his mind. This was a nightmare for him!
Sighing, he scanned the stacks looking for what he came for; a change of clothes. He was in the normal attire he donned all summer in France, shorts and a tank top, but it was raining outside so there was a chill. That made it to where he wanted to find something warmer to wear. That, of course, was easier said than done at this point! Everything was clearly labeled as to what was in them but there were so many that he wasn't sure where the boxes that contained his clothes were in this mess. As Mimi and Claude were back in France getting the final load of things while checking on the new elf, Marie, the one that would be handling his house there, he couldn't just summon one then ask. Well, he could because one would immediately pop up but he wasn't going to. No sense in calling them away for something so trivial. Pulling out his wand, he thought about doing a simple Accio but was afraid of what might happen if the boxes with his clothes were buried behind or beneath something else. With an internal sigh, he resigned himself to the fact that he was going to have to do this the hard way. Huffing, he looked around, wondering where he should even start.
Right now, honestly, he was stressed and wondering if his decision to come back was the right one. Things had been so much easier being a beach bum in France where no one knew who he was and the chances of people figuring it out were low. There was also the fact that in being that, there were no major upheavals in his life he had to deal with, like he was now. Honestly, he had wanted to give this a chance, really he had. He was also certain that he would have regretted it until the day he died if he hadn't given it a shot. That, more than anything, was why he did it. He had enough regrets and doubts about things that he didn't need any more in his life. Now, though, he was having doubts.
The last few days, as everything was moved, set into place and things worked out were among the most stressful since leaving all those years ago. On one hand, Lucius had been right. The elves had stayed with him and done most of the hard labor but he had to handle other things. His restaurant hadn't been bad to deal with. In fact, it was relatively easy. It was decided that he would spend one day a week in France dealing with whatever came with that. Plus, if he went about it that way, he could keep his resident alien status. Though it wasn't really needed, Lucius had pointed out that, at some point, it might be something that could come in handy so that's how they were going to do that. After that, locating to Spinners End hadn't been bad either. It was cramped with the three of them being there but manageable until all the boxes started showing up. The three of them were doing fine together, thankfully, despite the surrounding chaos. After all, they had spent most of the summer together in fairly close quarters so handling that wasn't a problem. The rest, however, had driven him nuts.
He had been here a total of three days and they had been busy. The first had been spent in Hogsmeade under disguise looking at houses. It had taken most of the day but he had settled on one that he liked. It was big enough that he wouldn’t be cramped and was far enough away from other ones that he had his privacy. That he could handle. What came next, though, was worse; Gringotts.
He had, of course, gone in using his Jay glamour. Lucius, though not having the pull he once did, was able to get the head goblin to handle the issues they had. Since the bank had all kinds of protection to keep people from trying to deceive them with spells and other things, that had worked out well, not resulting in him being revealed to all as Harry Potter. As always happened with the goblins, it had gone well. They held the property for sale so he was able to buy it from them easily. Their paperwork would be in his true name but any public record would show the Jay name. That, they all felt, was for the best until such time as it was known Harry Potter was back. They also would keep that part a secret with no issue. As the goblins liked turmoil among wizards and knowing things they weren't privy to, they didn't have an issue with that. For Harry, just the idea of buying the house made him twitch slightly. It was like the ultimate confirmation that he was back for good, something that he wanted, yes, but was still stressful.
Then there were the myriad of things to work out about all kinds of stuff. That, in and of itself, was a nightmare that took a great deal of work. The following day he would sign the final paperwork on the house then, while his elves moved things, some goblin wardmasters were going in to beef up what was already in place there to ensure that his privacy was kept. It had cost him quite a bit but was well worth it. Severus and Lucius, of course, were going to add their own wards to the thing but having the goblins step in to do something was for the best. It would make it one of the most secure homes in the British Isles. After that, he was going to go, quietly, and let a few people he was close to know he was back. He anticipated that was probably going to be something that wasn't easy. It was his hope, and that of the two men in his life as well, that by the time that task was finished most of the moving would be done then they could all settle in at the place for the night, and try to get comfortable.
Beyond that, since this was the final week before the term started, Severus and Lucius were going to be spending a great deal of time at Hogwarts in preparation for the classes. Harry, because he had a great many things to do, was going to be spending it in Hogsmeade getting the house ready and dealing with anything else that cropped up. The way his life ran, he was sure plenty of things were going to. This last week before school was going to be busy for all of them.
Once the term did start, they thought they had a plan in place that would work so they could spend time together, working on the relationship. The two of them were going to slip out the nights they could manage and stay with him, getting someone to cover for them with some kind of excuse. They were, for now, going to let people think it was the two of them that were in a relationship and let them speculate about that. It was, after all, as good of an excuse as any and most would buy it. The nights that they couldn't, Harry was actually going to slip into Hogwarts and spend the night with them. For the younger man, that was the ultimate in irony that gave him more than one amused snort over it. He had, of course, kept the Marauders Map and invisibility cloak all along. The cloak he had used from time to time but the map was just a relic he had wanted to keep. Now, though, it appeared that he was going to be putting it to use once more. This time, rather than doing something in school that would get him into trouble, he was going to be using it to sneak into the school to do something that wouldn't. It was well known that teachers who had a significant other could have them stay in the castle as long as the headmaster or deputy headmaster/mistress knew. The thing was, right now, none of the three of them wanted anyone to know. So, rather than go about it that way, he was going to sneak in. Talk about stressful! He was sure he could manage. After all, he did those kinds of things the whole time he was at Hogwarts but this seemed different and was just another stressful thing added on he really didn't need right now.
Tucking his wand back into his pocket, Harry scanned the massive stacks of cardboard everywhere, trying to decide where to even start. Though Mimi and Claude were very good about things, they were still house elves and had their own system for organizing. Like others of their species, that system didn't make much sense to humans so he was going to have to figure out the rhyme and reason behind it to find his ruddy clothes! Figuring he better get to it, he gave a deep sigh then began to moving things, peering at labels on the boxes to see if he couldn't get a feel for what was where.
Standing in the doorway to the room he called his library, Severus was leaning on the jamb, watching Potter climb through the forest of boxes, amused by his mutterings to himself. He wasn't sure what the young man was looking for but watching him hunt for it was amusing.
If anyone had told him at the beginning of summer that his life would be turned upside down and just before the school year began he would have two people living with him, beings that were his lovers nonetheless, he would have told them they were barmy. Then, add on the fact that one of them was Harry Potter and he would have probably hexed them for being an idiot. Indeed, though, that's what was happening. And, truthfully? He liked it! It was, as anyone could predict, stressful but the pleasure he got out of it far outweighed any stress to come of it.
Eyes sliding down as the young man bent over, they glued to his ass encased in the tight denim shorts he was wearing, a smirk starting to show on his face. Yes, this was most definitely a wonderful view. As he didn't want the boxes to come tumbling down though, he thought he should help. Though he couldn't help himself and waited until Harry had his head stuck between two of them, searching the names printed there, he asked, “What are you looking for, Mr. Potter?”
Giving a startled yelp, Harry jumped, banging his head on one of the boxes. Rubbing the now sore spot, he backed out then looked at Snape. Rolling his eyes at the smirk he saw there, he accused, “You did that on purpose, you evil git!” Knowing that was more of a statement of fact than anything else, he then said, “I'm looking for my clothes. It's gotten chilly and I want something warmer. Before you say it, I’ve already checked in the logical places, upstairs in the bedrooms. They have stuff that will go in the bedrooms up there just not my ruddy clothes!” Waving his hands around, he said, “And I have no clue where they put them! I was going to Accio something but thought better of it since it could cause a bloody avalanche if they are buried behind something!”
Nodding, Severus looked around, squinting, “Yes, they don't seem to have a system that we can grasp going here.” Reading the names on the boxes, they did seem to be in some kind of groupings but the categories didn't seem related. Shaking his head at house elf organizational skills, he said, “You can use one of my robes and shrink it to fit until we can find your things or one of the elves pop up so you can ask.”
Figuring that was about the best bet at this rate, Harry sighed and nodded. “Oh well, it reminds me that I have to get some new clothes anyway. I no longer have things suited for British weather. Mine are all geared for France. Just one more thing to add to the long list of what needs done in the next couple weeks.”
Pushing off the door frame, Severus stepped over then put a hand on the back of the young man's head then leaned forward and kissed the lightning bolt scar on his forehead. He knew Harry was suffering a great deal more stress than he or Lucius over this. It was, after all, a huge upheaval to come back where the chances of the unwashed masses finding out he was home was high. He also had no illusions that the young man was here for the sake of he and Lucius, probably preferring to stay in France where he had built his life. That spoke enough to Severus for him to realize this was probably rougher than either he or Lucius could imagine on Harry. The shifting around and mess that came with it were probably no help either, just adding more stress where it wasn't needed was all. Rubbing his head, he said, softly, “It can wait. You have enough. Once you get settled, you can find most everything in Hogsmeade. If not, London is a short Apparation away. It'll give you something to do while we're teaching some day when you're bored.”
Thinking that over, Harry nodded. “True. I'm used to having other things to do so I imagine it'll be boring for a bit until I find a routine. Just, now, it's so overwhelming with everything piling on in such a short time with all of it happening so quickly.”
“Understandable. In a couple weeks it'll settle down, though. You just have to give it time, Harry,” Snape schooled as gently as he could. He was, like Lucius, worried that if things didn't calm slightly, Harry might get cold feet then vanish back to France and make the relationship one of a long-distance type thing. They didn't want that but would work with it if it came to such a thing.
Leaning his head against Severus' chest, Harry nodded and sighed. “Yeah, I know it will. Just right now it's so... ARGH!”
Giving a snort of amusement, Severus nodded, “I will concede that is a very good word for it. Too much is happening. In a few days it'll calm down, though. Then things will level out.”
“I know, really I do. I keep telling myself that, as a matter of fact. It's just right now...” Harry sighed, shaking his head.
Nodding, Severus said nothing, understanding completely. Leaning forward, he kissed his younger lover again, quickly losing himself in the act, shutting out everything else.
Apparating to where the wards around Spinners End started, Draco let out a heavy sigh. He had just come from Hogwarts where he had been in the usual meeting before school started, well one of them anyway, and needed someone to snark to. The thought he was going to have to go back and teach again was something he hated but he didn't have any more options as to what to do. He had, like he did every year, put out some feelers to find another job over the summer months but, again, as usual by now, there weren't even any nibbles. So, he was going to be stuck another year teaching a bunch of hormonal brats and have to deal with their whispers about his past. He hated that shite but there wasn't a damned thing he could do about it.
This year, though, was looking worse than normal already. No, it wasn't any kind of changes in school policy or anything, it was more like his father and Severus had distanced themselves from him over the summer. That vacation without him was still something that stung. Now that they were back, it was even worse! His father was actually staying with Severus since returning and wouldn't explain why, just saying it was personal, that it had nothing to do with him. That, of course, made him suspicious. Had his father finally met someone else he was planning to marry or something? That he didn't know but wanted to find out! As things were hectic right now at school, he decided to go to the source since he knew his father would be at Hogwarts most of the day. Severus, though he wouldn't like it, would fill him in if he whined enough. He didn't like doing that anymore but was out of options at this point so he was going with what he knew worked.
Stepping through the wards, smug in the knowledge that he was one of only a handful of people that the Potions Master had keyed into them, Draco straightened out his tailored robes then made his way to the front door. Without even bothering to knock, he let himself in then went hunting for his godfather. As this was something he normally did, he didn't bother calling out or letting Severus know he was there, assuming, like normal, the older man was in the basement potions lab.
Walking through the place, Draco's brow furrowed as he saw all the oddly labeled boxes stacked literally everywhere, leaving barely a space to walk. If he didn't see all his godfather's things in their normal places behind them, he would have thought that Severus was getting ready to move. It was strange.
Taking his usual tour through the downstairs, noting that the boxes were in every room, he poked his head in various places looking for the Potions Master. Of course, as he expected, he didn't find him. Figuring he would check the last place, the library, he quickly poked his head in and was ready to pull it out, assuming Severus wasn't there but stopped cold, eyes widening at the sight he beheld. There was his godfather alright, kissing someone! Another man no less! Unable to stop himself, he let out a startled gasp then said a questioning, “Severus?” His eyes remained glued to the scene. Even from the short glimpse, there was something very familiar about that body in nothing but a tank top and skimpy shorts with lots of tanned skin showing.
Because he had been so involved with Harry and the kiss, Severus hadn't been paying attention to anything else. Normally, when someone came through the wards, even if they were keyed into them, he felt it. Same with any noises in the house. He'd been distracted, though, and hadn't felt or heard any of it. Now, there was going to be hell to pay. Harry didn't have the glamour he was going to use up and needed time to do that before Draco saw who it really was. Yes, there was going to be a time that Draco was going to find out who this really was but now wasn't going to be it. He had been all for telling him right away but Lucius didn't want to do that. The Malfoy patriarch had made it clear that he wanted that secret to stay hidden for a while. His logic was that Draco was going to have a hard enough time accepting that his father was in a relationship with anyone, let alone someone he had gotten off on a bad foot with. If he found out that being was Harry Potter, all hell would break loose. Though the Potions Master wanted to be upfront about it all and let the chips fall where they may, he bowed to Lucius on the issue as Draco was his son. Now, though, he was going to have to do some quick thinking.
Head whipping the younger man's direction, he sneered, “Draco, how many times have I told you to knock before coming in?” He hoped that it would give Harry enough time to get the glamour in place. This wasn't going to be pretty to begin with, and he didn't want there to be all out war if he could at all help it.
Startled, Harry quickly had the glamour slide into place, making sure to keep his face averted until he was sure it was up. Oh bloody hell, this wasn't going to be pretty. Stepping back away from Severus, he glanced at Draco and waited for the shite to hit the fan, hand on his wand in case the younger Malfoy decided to start throwing hexes. As this was something that had been brought up before, it had been decided that Harry wouldn't get into it unless all our war was erupting. It was best to let Severus and/or Lucius handle this until Draco was resigned to the situation. Right now, Harry was all for staying in the background and letting the formidable Potions Master deal with his godson. Along with that, though, he wondered if there was a way to contact Lucius to let him know his son was here and his help was probably going to be needed.
Eyes sliding from his godfather, still quite wide over what he had walked into, they then slid to the other party in the room. Immediately, once the man faced him, Draco remembered who this was. “You!” He snarled, wand coming out, pointing at the one named Jay. “What the hell are you doing here? And why are you kissing my godfather!”
Grabbing his godson's wrist, Severus, pointed the wand away then snapped, “Put it up, Draco! Now! There will be no hexing anyone in my house by anyone except me!”
Though he wanted to ignore that and toss a few the arrogant animagus' way, Draco knew better than to argue with Severus so he lowered the wand but refused to put it away. Eyes still locked on the being he saw as an intruder, he snapped, “Someone needs to explain to me what is going on! Is he staying here? And if he is, I know father has been so someone needs to tell me just what in the name of Merlin's beard is going on!” Oh, hell no, he didn't like this at all! If his leanings were right and his father had been seeing someone, his reason for staying here, that might very well mean it was this Jay. Were that the case, all hell was going to break loose because he just flat out wasn't going to stand for it!
“That, Draco, is not within your purview to demand,” came Lucius' cold voice from the doorway. Stepping in, silver eyes cold, the elder Malfoy glared at his son in such a way that it was something he knew would immediately get his son to back down. “If you calm yourself, quit acting like a spoiled two year old that had his lolly stolen and actually listen, we might explain what is going on. If you persist, the only thing that's going to happen is Severus and I will end up hexing you! Now, sit down and quit acting like a spoiled brat!” Lucius thundered.
Knowing that voice all too well, Draco swallowed thickly then, immediately, planted himself in the nearest chair, eyes never leaving his father. Though he said nothing, he was waiting to hear the explanation of what was going on, sure he wasn't going to like it one damned bit!
