Author’s Note: This is an alternate universe; Harry is still Voldemort’s horcrux, however it will not be manifesting its self until later in the story. Harry is also homosexual and later will become pregnant in the story (the baby is NOT Voldemort’s horcrux I must add). The pairings are Harry X Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow X Harry, Dudley X Sarah (Sarah is an OC muggle), Ginny X Blaise, Ron X Hermione, Bruce and Selina/Batman X Catwoman, Voldemort X Arianna in later chapters (Arianna is an OC witch) and slight mentions of Draco X Harry (currently one-sided). Also, Edward Nigma is not The Riddler when Harry first meets him, however in the future (when he does become The Riddler) he will be targeting Harry and Jonathan. This is going to be Slash, as well as Hetero and any flames will be criticized however constructive criticism will be taken into account due to the fact that this will be my first slash and hetero. There will be another version posted on deviant art as well as under the same username without the sex as well as fanfiction.net under ‘Haller’s Demon’. On with the story!
Chapter 1
It was noon when Harry Potter arrived in the United States in the ‘muggle flying tin can of death’, as Ron had called it when he first had heard Harry would be leaving England in. The twenty year old had decided to leave the Wizarding World for the summer in order to get some peace in quiet due to the fact that every morning the man was still received letters from witches and wizards all around the world (many surprisingly coming from the United States) thanking him for defeating the Dark Lord. While another person may have basked in the Stardom, Harry just wanted to escape it. He was now quite famous because the ‘Dark Lord’ had miscalculated and had nearly all of his horcruxes destroyed by the Golden Trio during the year that Harry officially became an adult in the eyes of the Wizarding world. But Harry was supposed to be dead according to the memories Snape had provided before his demise at the hands (or fangs in this case) of Nagini, the Dark Lord’s sixth, and ‘last’ horcrux that was known to Hermione and Ron.
So while Harry was alive, there was a strong chance that the Dark Lord could, and would, rise again. Yet, Harry found he really didn’t give a flying fuck. Another wizard or witch could handle the Dark Lord, and let him live in peace. So encased in his thoughts was the man that he was sent to the sidewalk by a rather handsome man with brown hair and icy blue eyes.
“I’m sorry.” The man said politely, helping Harry to his feet. “My name is Jonathan Crane, and you are?” “Harry Potter…” The Harry said gently, causing the brown haired man to smile down at the ebony haired man. “To make up for running into you and knocking you to the ground, Mr. Potter, can I take you to dinner?” Jonathan’s question caused Harry to smile up at the man answering with a slight blush, “Thank you, Mr. Crane. I’m new to Gotham.” “Mr. Crane was my father, Mr. Potter, call me Jonathan.” Said the man with a laugh, smiling down at the embarrassed wizard.
“I’ll give you my number and pick you up tonight.” Jonathan said with a smile, making Harry smile up at the man. “Do you have any suggestions on what I should wear, Jonathan?” “I’d suggest a suit, something to bring out the color of your eyes. Maybe a pair of contacts so everyone can see how stunning those eyes of yours are, Mr. Potter.” Harry’s blush caused Jonathan to smile at him before breathing into the other man’s ear almost seductively, “I have to go now, Harry, my work requires it.” Harry watched Jonathan until the man disappeared into the bustling crowded sidewalk, still blushing when...
“Hey, Harry, welcome to Gotham.” Called out a familiar voice, and Harry whirled around to find his cousin, Dudley, grinning down at him. “How have you been?” Questioned the giant of a man, standing at 6’4 and appeared to have lost a lot of the weight he had gained from his mother, Petunia’s over indulgence as a child. Now the Dudley standing before him appeared to be pure muscle, with his blond hair shaved on the sides with it cropped short on the top. Essentially, what Harry was unable to think was that Dudley wasn’t the whale of a cousin that Harry had once known.
“You know, twenty or more letters every morning, thanking me for… uh… the incident. You know, the usual.” Harry answered, causing his cousin to roll his eyes. “Oh, Dudley, so this is your cousin?” Questioned a soft spoken, beautiful black haired woman with bright blue eyes. “Oh, Sarah, this is Harry. Harry, this is Sarah, my wife.” Dudley said with a smile directed at the woman, and Harry shook the woman’s hand with his own smile directed at the woman.
“It is a pleasure to meet you, Sarah.” Harry said his smile now returned by the woman. “We should go to lunch before you have to meet with the Bruce Wayne.” Sarah said, putting slight emphasis on ‘the’, glancing back at Dudley, who smiled at the young woman. “That’s alright with me, if it’s alright with you, Harry.” Answered the blonde, glancing over at Harry, who raised an eyebrow because he already knew who Bruce Wayne was.
“That would be fine…although I may have to steal your wife later because I was asked to dinner by a Jonathan Crane.” When Harry said Jonathan Crane, both Dudley and Sarah exchanged a surprised look. “Jonathan Crane… The Jonathan Crane asked you to dinner?” Questioned Sarah, and the ebony haired man raised an eyebrow before nodding.
“He’s been giving speeches about phobias, and has made a lot of money because of those speeches.” Sarah said, appearing to have memorized why the man was so famous. “I didn’t know…” Harry answered, now worried. Of course it was not about being seen with the man. No, it was because now he feared wizards and witches would hound him, trying to get ‘exclusive’ interviews with him.
“I guess that you can ‘steal’ Sarah to help you pick out something to wear, god knows you can’t pick out clothes by yourself.” Laughed Dudley, causing Harry to roll his eyes at his cousin-in-law. “See how mean he is, Sarah?” Harry said, pretending to be depressed about Dudley’s statement which then caused everyone to laugh. “Anyway, we should be going to lunch, boys.” Sarah announced, leading the pair to a black limo with a brown haired driver with bright green eyes that almost put Harry’s own to shame. The man appeared to be working on a crossword puzzle and continued to mutter things to himself as the two men and the woman climbed into the limo.
“Edward, this is Harry, my cousin, Harry, this is Edward.” Dudley said, introducing the pair before Sarah spoke up. “Can you take us to the Desiree’s?” Sarah asked, ignoring the introduction, and caused Harry to raise an eyebrow at the woman. Her entire attitude was beginning to turn Harry off, and her eyes were cold…the smile she presented was fake. Edward looked slightly irritated to have been interrupted but smiled at Harry.
“Right away, Mrs. Dursley, and it’s nice to meet you, Harry.” The man said, starting the car and pulled out into the road after signaling. “So Harry, what do you do for a living?” “I work at a very private school as a defense teacher.” Answered the young man with a smile, and Dudley grinned at his cousin. “I still can’t believe you got the post, Harry.” Laughed the man, punching Harry in the arm good naturedly, grinning at Harry.
“How much do you make, Harry?” Sarah suddenly asked snidely, causing Harry to raise an eyebrow at the young woman. “Let’s see, about three hundred and nine thousand, and six hundred pounds in a year which is the equivalent to…” “It is three hundred nine thousand six hundred and thirty dollars and ninety six cents.” Edward murmured, causing Harry to turn his gaze onto the brown haired man. “You’re paid to drive, not talk, Mr. Nigma.” Snapped Sarah, causing the man to flush bright red in anger as he continued driving down the street.
“He’s actually right, Mrs. Dursley.” Harry said coldly, turning his gaze onto the now embarrassed Dudley. “I think that I’ll just have lunch with you, Dudley then I’ll go shopping by myself.” Harry said to Dudley, now completely ignoring the ebony haired woman who now looked irritated at being ‘insulted’ by the ebony haired man. “Okay, Harry…by the way, how’s your godson…Teddy is it?” “He’s growing like a weed; I actually have a picture of him somewhere…” Harry answered, reaching into his pocket and pulled out a wallet the boy had bought him.
The picture was of a boy around three with pink hair and golden eyes, his face covered in silver and green icing with a huge grin. Dudley laughed at the picture and looked up at Harry. “Where is he now, Harry?” “With his grandparents,” Harry answered, and Dudley noticed a shadow cross over the ebony haired man’s face. It was the look of someone who’d gone to hell and back.
“It’s not your fault they died, Harry.” Dudley said suddenly, passing the picture back to Harry with a stern expression on his face. “Yes it fucking is, Dudley…I should have done more. I should have at the very least asked Lupin and Tonks to stay with their son, so they wouldn’t have died.” Harry said gently, now staring out the window. A strange pressure seemed to build as Harry continued staring unseeing out the window, his eyes glazed over.
“Harry James Potter, look at me.” Dudley ordered, reaching out to grab his cousin’s shoulders only to draw them back when Harry’s emerald gaze turned onto the man. “Sorry, Dudley… the uh… flashbacks have been happening more often.” Harry said gently, now appearing to be back to the present.
“We’re here, Harry, Mr. and Mrs. Dursley.” Edward suddenly announced, causing Harry to release a sigh when Sarah released a slightly irritated sound at being mentioned last. “Let’s go, Dudley…Potter.” She said snidely, causing Harry to roll his eyes. “Edward, do you want to have lunch with us?” Harry asked, glancing up to meet the man’s bright green eyes and found the man looking slightly embarrassed at Harry’s question.
“I would, Harry, but I don’t make enough money to eat out.” Edward answered, causing Harry to roll his eyes. “I’d be paying, Edward.” Harry answered which caused the other man to blush slightly at the ebony haired man’s answer. “Um…” Noticing Sarah’s furious expression the man knew his answer. “Okay, Harry…” Sarah looked like she was about to make a comment when Harry glanced over at the woman, raising an eyebrow curiously.
“Is something wrong, Sarah?” Harry asked curiously, triumph shinning in those bright green eyes. “Nothing, Harry.” The woman answered with a strained smile, before opening the door on the right side of the car fallowed by Dudley. After the door was closed, Edward said, “I can’t believe you’re standing up to that pompous, rich bitch.” He pulled away from the curb and drove to the parking lot. “She reminds me of a rich pampered brat I knew in school, although he knew when to shut up.” Harry said with a laugh, causing the brown haired man to raise an eyebrow.
“Shall we go to lunch, Mr. Potter?” Edward questioned after opening the door for Harry and helped the man out of the car. “Yes, Mr. Nigma.” Harry answered, and the pair walked up to the glass doors, Harry’s arm around Edward’s. A rather pompous waiter looked down his nose at the pair and asked snidely, “Do you have a reservation?” “I came here with pair and asked snidely, “Do you have a reservation?” “I came here with my cousin and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Dursley.” Harry answered coldly, and cast a silent compulsion spell on the muggle to make him take the pair to Dudley and Sarah’s table.
“Of course, right this way.” The waiter answered, leading the pair to a table for four where Dudley and Sarah already were sitting. “Here you are, sirs.” Harry glanced up at the waiter and released the spell with a smirk. “Wh…” The man looked suddenly furious and shouted, “What the hell are…are your kind doing?” Harry glanced over at Edward, whose eyes had narrowed ever so slightly. “My kind? What does that mean?” Spat the ebony haired man, rising from his seat with a glare directed at the man.
“Simmons, what is going on here?” Snapped a masculine voice, causing the waiter to turn and find his manager glaring daggers at him. “Those two did not have a reservation.” The man said, flinching back when the manager stepped up to him, jabbing a finger in the waiter’s chest. “You. Are. FIRED.” Roared the manager, practically spitting in the other man’s face.
After the man, Simmons, had left, the manager turned his attention on Harry and Edward. “I apologize, good sirs. You both will be receiving a free meal of your choice, no matter the price after such a disgusting display.” The manager said to the pair, causing Harry to release a sigh. “Thank you, Mr.…” “Richardson. Missus Heymans will be your waitress.” He said, waving over a woman appearing in her thirties with slightly graying brown hair hanging to her shoulders.
“Good afternoon, gentlemen, may I start you off with something to drink?” Harry glanced over at Edward expectantly, and saw the man looking through their selection of wines before deciding on one. “The red wine from Paris made in 1922, thank you.” Answered the brown haired man, causing Sarah to attempt to step in. “You can’t drink, Nigma.” “If I recall, Sarah, the legal limit for blood alcohol count is point zero six percent, therefore Edward will be able to drink two glasses of wine since that will cause a blood alcohol count of point zero four percent.” Harry stated smugly, causing the woman’s eyes to narrow ever so slightly.
“What would you know, you…you freak?” Shrieked the woman, causing Harry to raise his eyebrow at Sarah. “And you! After today, you’re fired!” She exclaimed while pointing at Edward hysterically. “Like I care.” The man answered flippantly, causing the woman to flush bright red in obvious anger. “HOW DARE YOU?!” She shrieked, and of course the man completely ignored the young woman, opting to look through the menu.
“Excuse me, Mr. Potter; what would you like to drink?” Miss Heymans asked, and the man paused, scanning the woman before him curiously and answered, “A glass of water, Miss Heymans.” As the woman jotted down both men’s orders, Harry released a sigh. Of course, only he would have the luck of running into a witch…probably one of the only ones in Gotham, thought Harry.
Dudley looked torn between defending his wife, and defending his cousin. In an attempt to calm the situation, Dudley asked, “What happened between you and the Weasley girl, uh, Ginny was it?” “We were never dating; I was helping her make Blaise Zambini jealous so when we ‘broke up’ he came in to sweep her off her feet. She’s already married to him and expecting a baby some time in December.” Dudley raised an eyebrow before asking, “Aren’t you at least jealous?”
“Of course not, those two were meant for each other.” Harry answered, releasing a sigh as he realized he would have to tell his cousin about his…preference in men sooner rather than later. “What the hell, man? She idolized you!” “Dammit, Dudley, I can’t help it if I am gay.” Harry snapped at the man, causing Dudley’s eyes to widen exponentially. “Wait, what? You mean you’re… into men?” The blonde asked stupidly, causing Harry to roll his eyes.
“Yes, Dudley, I am. The Weasley family, Grangers and almost everyone I associate with knows this because of the papers.” Harry answered coldly before noticing Sarah going red in the face. “I knew it! You’re a god damned… unnatural… freak!” Shrieked the woman, not noticing Harry’s eyes narrowing, his form shaking with barely contained fury at the woman’s accusation.
“I would suggest shutting up, Mrs. Dursley.” Snapped Edward so suddenly that all eyes turned onto the man. His expression was furious as he spat out, “I quit. Find your own way home.” He growled at his former employers, and threw the limo keys onto the table before waving over the manager.
“Excuse me, sir, but would it be possible for Mr. Potter and I be moved to another table? I don’t want to end up having the police called because Mr. and Mrs. Dursley.” Edward said icily, and the man immediately nodded. “That would be no problem, sir.” Answered the manager; shooting a disgusted look at the Dursleys as he led the pair toward a table at the front of the restaurant.
After the pair sat down, Edward turned his gaze on to Harry. “That was an interesting conversation, although now I don’t have a job…” “I’m terribly sorry, Edward…how can I make it up to you?” Questioned the other man curiously, and raised an eyebrow at Edward’s almost… evil grin. “Getting me information about Jonathan Crane, Harry. Some good, uh, blackmail material.” Purred the man, causing Harry to shake his head immediately.
“Not happening.” Harry answered coldly, and Edward’s eyes narrowed. “Then I will ruin you, Potter. I can make your life hell.” The man answered coldly before turning his gaze onto the woman that had appeared out of nowhere. “Here are your wine, and water, sirs.” Mrs. Heymans said, passing the bottle to Edward along with a wine glass and a glass of water to Harry.
“Thank you, ma’am…I’m sorry to say that I will be leaving now because I am not hungry.” Edward announced, taking the bottle of wine and practically high tailed it out the door. When the woman turned her attention onto Harry, who was smiling up at her. “If I could have a simple salad, that would be fine, Mrs. Heymans.” He answered and the woman jotted down the man’s order.
“That will be ready in five minutes, Mr. Potter.” Mrs. Heymans answered before leaving the table with a smile. Harry stared blankly out the window, recalling everything that Edward had said before shaking his head. One day and he had already made three enemies… he was on a roll.
