A/N: This relationship was created in an RP Group. For those wondering, the sexual stuff starts in Chapt. 2
Katherine Jordan smiled her usual bright cheerful smile that could enlighten a room with joy, as she approached the blond haired boy. Somehow she had never noticed him before a couple days ago (far as she could recall, that is), and then suddenly a few days ago he became one of the most popular guys in Hogwarts. Girls were swarming to him like bees to their honey filled hive.
She cursed herself for having ever looked over him, and he’d probably never notice her now that his popularity went soaring. After all reaching the top at such a fast rate has that effect on people. Once someone reaches their highest point, they can be knocked down repeatedly and emerge unscarred only to take themselves back to the top…. It’s known that when you become acquainted with the greater standards of life, you would do anything to remain there or simply get back to it.
Yes, Katherine still secretly had a crush on Louis Weasley, but she still found this guy interesting. Damian Raven Longbottom was the type of guy who knew he was cute and hid it, at least he used too. He had gotten her attention when they bumped into each other one morning, she’d wanted to speak with him then but he had quickly turned his gaze to the floor and shuffled away…. He was acting shy, probably why he went unnoticed, but somehow in just a matter of hours everyone knew who Damian was.
Biding her time intelligently, she waited until the last of the female admirers left him. When she saw he was alone, she went to have a personal, private chat with him.
“You’re a Slytherin?” Katherine asked. “I’ve never noticed you before.” She cursed herself once more for not knowing him sooner.
“Yep,” Damian answered. He knew who she was already. He liked her long before she knew he was there. “Are you in Slytherin too?”
Of course she was, he knew this. He had seen her in the Slytherin Common room, her blond hair, a beautiful face that he considered to be that of an angel. She got his attention without even trying. Her mere presence lifted his mood, when he was depressed about something, she would walk by and his vigor would return.
“Yep, fifth year as well,” she said.
“Nice to meet you then, at least I’m not the only one,” Damian replied. He’d shake her hand if his heart wasn’t attempting to break out of his chest. She was talking to him, actually speaking to him and he couldn’t believe it. Nor could his heart that found this shocking enough to smash against his rib cage attempting to either break out of its safe haven, or injure him. “How old does that make you, like fifteen or sixteen?”
“Fifteen actually, my birthday is in seventeen days.”
Her birthday was on Christmas Eve, he would have to keep that in mind. An anonymous gift, he could have an owl deliver it to her. Or better yet, a first year…. They’d do anything if they thought they would somehow prosper. What would it cost, a few chocolate frogs? He saw a new first year recently tearing through several of them in attempt to collect cards depicting great people of history…. Must have at least 4 Dumbledore cards within a day, they were rather common. He could buy her gift, and tell the kid to make the delivery and if she happened to ask who it was from he was to refuse answering. If he succeeded, two extra chocolate frogs were added onto his payment. It was an excellent plan to get her a nice gift, if he had to say so himself.
“And you?”
“Still fifteen too, but you’re a bit older than me,” Damian answered.
“When is your birthday?”
“January 13, it’s on a Friday this year,” he answered, they laughed. Inside he cheered that he had made her smile.
“Nice. Hey, you’re cute. How come I’ve never noticed you before?”
She wanted to slap herself for blurting that out. The thought escaped before she could stop herself.
“Thanks, you’re pretty,” said Damian. Katherine froze in disbelief as he said that, she was pretty. He hadn’t thought, he had said what he wanted. She struck him as an honest type, he had nothing to hide. “You may have seen me a few times, but I’m an Animagus, so you probably wouldn’t have noticed me that much.”
He liked that ability—took him plenty of months to learn it—because with it he could see her and she would never notice he was watching her.
“Oh, hmm. Thanks,” she said, blushing. She could see why he was getting attention; damn his charming nature matching perfectly to his boyishly good looks. “Which animal do you change into?”
He grinned as she blushed, he was doing something right. He had counted them, about five girls had been hitting on him in the last few hours and he was still hoping for one Katherine Jordan…. She was the one reason he had stepped out from the shadows, refusing to hide from her any longer.
“You’re welcome,” said Damian. “I turn into a raven. It’s my Patronus and middle name too.” That’s how ironic life can be.
“That is so cool!” Katherine replied. Damn him for being so impressive. “My Patronus is a dragon.” Something she was proud of.
“Awesome, I love dragons.”
“Same here,” she said, giggling. “You have dirt on your cheek. Here…” Using her thumb she wiped it away and smiled. “It’s all gone.”
“Is it a scary dragon?” Damian asked nervously.
He couldn’t believe she had touched him. He could not believe that her hand had made contact with him, without it being an accident. His heartbeat picked up in pace. If he was sitting in the Hospital Wing with Madam Pomfrey going on about broken ribs, he wouldn’t be surprised.
“Not to me, it isn’t,” she laughed. “It’s more like… beautiful.”
“Cool. I think people are too afraid of dragons, they are amazing.”
“They really are. And what is with boys and dirt? You still have some on your face.”
“I do?” Damian asked, touching his cheek. Katherine laughed. “Where at?”
“Right there,” she said, still laughing she moved his hand. She was making excuses, he didn’t exactly have enough on him to be noticeable, but she wanted an excuse to touch him again.
“Did I get it?” he asked, trying to rub it away.
“You’re adorable,” Katherine said, giggling. “Yes, it’s off.”
Suddenly Katherine Jordan was forgetting all about her crush on Louis Weasley…. She had good reason to be forgetting about it, because she was starting to fall for Damian Longbottom. In her mind she hoped she wasn’t too late to act on this. Had he already noticed and simply been uninterested? She had used the dirt thing as an excuse to simply touch him. Did he realize that though? Had he already met someone?
“Thanks,” said Damian, trying not to blush. “I have no idea why we like dirt, it's just fun I guess.”
“Well, I prefer being clean. Do you play Quidditch?”
“I try to be…. Yes, I love Quidditch.”
“Do you play? I'm the Seeker for Slytherin”
Many wondered how that had happened. Damian Longbottom, Katherine Jordan and even Louis Weasley had all found themselves sorted into Slytherin. It seemed Professor Neville Longbottom—Damian’s father—could look at all his other children in a decent way, but Damian was something else… a Slytherin. A member of the very house that held the dark reputation of evil, home to those who had bullied and mocked Neville in his school years. He seemed almost ashamed of his son. Though Damian and Katherine had both proved themselves to be unlike that sort, it was haunting memories that made it saddest for Neville. But Damian’s mother, Hannah Abbott, kept true to her Hufflepuff ways and told him all the houses are equal.
“Not on a team,” Damian answered. He wondered if that took away the impressive side. “Should I?”
“I believe you should,” said Katherine, a sly grin. If she could get him to join Slytherin’s Quidditch team, then she would be able to see him more often. Maybe with time, he would get the hint that she liked him. “We are in need of a keeper. And you seem like a keeper.” She hoped he at least caught what she had said, surely he recognized flirting.
“I do? Who do I talk to about it?”
Damn, Katherine thought, either he’s playing hard to get or he isn’t interested.
She tried to read his expression to no avail. He was like the cover of a book… can never be judged by a cover.
“I'm the Captain but Elisabeth takes care of the newbies,” Katherine said, brushing back her blond hair.
“Then I talk to her?”
“Yep, she’ll test you and see if you’re good enough to make the team.”
If he didn’t make it, she would be sure he still got onto the team anyway. She wanted to keep him close.
“Cool,” said Damian. “I’ll be sure to talk to her.”
“Okay then…. Oh, and you better get ready. You'll probably get a lot of girls at your feet since you're not related to the Weasley and Potter girls.”
Most of the girls already had love lives by now at Hogwarts, not all but most. Not the Weasley and Potter girls though, their male relatives were too protective of them…. Louis had just recently broken up with his girlfriend Abigail Longbottom due to his crush on Hayley Finnigan. They both had a passion for fire…. And even in his already confusing love life, he was still protective of his elder sister, Dominique Weasley. Just like the Potter boys were protective of their sister and Hugo (though quiet as he usually is) was protective of his own. The Weasley boys and the Potter boys rarely talked as they all lived their separate lives, but blood relation kept them together and protecting their female relatives is what brought them together. It was possibly one of the few things that could drag the sometimes ill-tempered James Sirius Potter away from his beloved chicken which he was usually seen eating.
That probably wouldn’t have stopped Damian from sneaking around with them though while the boys simply heard rumors that one of their sisters or cousins was dating. But Katherine was saying these things to stop him, she wanted Damian and she wasn’t about to lose him like that, even if he was making it hard by not showing signs that he returned the affection.
“Damian?” She said when he didn’t respond.
“Yeah?”
“Promise you won't just date some random girl ‘cause you two are not related.”
“Yeah, I promise,” Damian replied.
She took the moment and touched his cheek, not knowing he loved every second of it.
“I wouldn't want you doing anything you could regret, because of practicalities.”
“What do you mean?”
“If a girl from the Weasley or Potter family likes you, it's probably just ‘cause you're not related and they are desperate for a boyfriend.”
She hated making them sound like they were sluts, but she just wanted him for herself…. She was falling for him so quickly, and she couldn’t bear seeing one of them come in promising that by being with them it would be somewhat rebellious as their male relatives tried to trace the source of rumors until they found him…. Katherine couldn’t bear seeing him with anyone but her.
“I need to go,” said Katherine. She looked around to see they were alone and kissed his cheek. “I'll be back later.”
“Okay,” Damian replied, his eyes wide. Finally he was getting it. All those signs she gave him and it took one tiny peck on the cheek to break through.
“Sorry about that,” she said, thinking she’d done wrong.
“I-It’s okay.”
“You seem terrified,” she laughed and immediately he tried to hide it.
“N-No, it’s okay. It’s all…”
“Confusing?”
“Erm, good.”
“Yeah, hmm, sorry about that,” she said in a rush. It was her time to see if it had worked; to see if he cared enough to stop her from walking away. “I should go then.”
“No don't,” said Damian. Katherine forced her grin to stay hidden. “I didn't mean you were right about it being confusing. I meant it was... good”
“Damian, I really should go.... I don't want to make things awkward with you. I really like you, you're a great guy!”
“You're okay…. You aren't making it awkward at all. We can talk about something else if you like?”
She had wanted to stay, but she pardoned herself and they agreed to meet again. Several hours later they did meet up again as planned, Damian had taken the time to talk to Elisabeth and Katherine went to a Quidditch meeting. Elisabeth had gotten permission to skip to test the boy who wanted to be Keeper… Katherine’s Keeper, that is.
“Sorry I had to leave earlier,” said Katherine, when they met that night before curfew.
“It’s okay,” said Damian.
“So, how are you?”
“Awesome, I talked to Elisabeth and made the team.”
“That’s great,” she said, smiling. It had worked, and she’d get to see him much more often now. “Congrats.”
“Yeah, it is…. It wasn't easy though, I'm not use to flying with brooms.”
Of course not, he was an animagus, he had learned to turn into a raven at will and had no need to use a broom. The ones, who have wings, don’t require such things.
“I'm sure you were fantastic,” said Katherine. She smiled and kissed his cheek, reluctant to leave it at that, hoping sooner or later he would say something about her doing this.
“I hope so, she throws pretty hard.”
“Well, you were amazing, obviously since you made the team.”
“I guess so. I barely caught them though.”
“Hey,” said Katherine, stepping closer and looking directly into his eyes, “you and I are a team. You keep the Quaffle away from the hoops and I'll catch the snitch, okay? Together, we're the strongest here!”
“Yeah, we are, huh?” Damian said. He didn’t know if that was true or not, honestly he didn’t care as long as it involved her and him together. Katherine looked down and blushed.
“Yeah…. Hmm, Damian? I have something to say.”
“I… well, I…“ She paused to look into his eyes and quickly turned her gaze back to the floor. There was just something about the way he looked at her. “I really like you.”
“Awe…. I really like you too.”
He smiled, but she didn’t think he was exactly getting the point. She looked back into his eyes and this time kept them locked in place.
“But, I mean, I like-like you.”
“I know,” said Damian, laughing. “I like-like you too.”
“Really?” Katherine asked with a grin. The little bastard was playing hard to get the entire time.
“Yeah, I know a couple girls are hitting on me right now but the only girl I'm interested in is you, Katherine. I just didn't think you felt the same way that I do.”
In a pure rush of excitement and joy she pressed her lips to his, kissing him for the first time. She soon pulled away realizing he hadn’t exactly said that meant anything. So they liked each other, that part was easy. Would it mean even the slightest thing to him, as it already did to her?
“Why?” Damian asked, grinning. The feeling of her soft lips was lingering in his mind. “Why are you apologizing? I liked that.”
Without hesitation, let alone questioning it, Katherine kissed him again. He was glad she did, considering he hadn’t wanted her to stop the first time. And just the way he gently touched her cheek and kissed her back sent a chill down her spine. They had both liked each other this entire time and they were finally acting on it, this kiss felt natural. It was meant to be… they were meant to be.
She wrapped her arms around his neck and continued to kiss him, never wanting this moment to end. If someone had asked her, or if Louis Weasley himself had walked in then, she’d only ask “Who the hell are you?” The only thing on her mind was the same person pressed against her, Damian Raven Longbottom. He wrapped his arms around her waist, holding her tighter and kissing her passionately…. She hated doing so, but she pulled away from the kiss.
“So, you want to do something about this?” Katherine asked, running her fingers through his hair.
“Yeah,” Damian answered, speaking his thoughts as before. “I wanna know if you'll be my girlfriend?”
“Yes, I will.”
“Thank you, I was hoping you'd say yes.”
“Of course I'd say yes!” said Katherine. “Look, Damian, I…”—she paused afraid her words would frighten him—“I love you.... And, I have really been hoping you'd ask me…. I'm the luckiest girl in the world.”
She never let on that she admired him from afar since she first did notice him, after that first accidental bump in the hall. When he mentioned his Animagus form was a raven, she never let on that she was reminded of a raven out on Hogwarts grounds whose black eyes lit up at the sight of her. Or how she had noticed that very same raven perched in the Slytherin common room watching her with a secret adoration, she saw that same love in Damian’s eyes. It’s what gave away that he happened to be the very bird who watched her…. The other girls had a crush on him, but she was falling more and more in love with him. She couldn’t explain it and didn’t want anyone explaining it for her. She just knew that she loved Damian—though she half expected him to turn on his heels and flee when she admitted to her feelings—and he made it obvious that he most likely felt the same way.
“Really?” Damian asked, excitedly. “I love you to, and I’ve wanted to ask you all day.”
And so he had, longer than that actually, but he didn’t think she’d realized the whole idea of him watching her in raven form. She might find it somewhat awkward if she learned he was her personal stalker. His sudden burst of popularity had been of his own methods in a simple plan to get her attention. Yes, it attracted the attention of several others, but who cared? It was her he wanted in his life. He often felt that he was like Greek fire and she was the never ending water that kept him from dying out.
“Awe, that’s so sweet,” said Katherine. She kissed him again and he kissed her back. She waited a moment before breaking the kiss. “I love you, I really do, Damian.”
“I really love you too, Katherine,” said Damian, smiling.
With her arms still around his neck, she began kissing him once again. With one hand on her cheek, he put the other arm around her waist and pulled her so they were pressed tighter together. She continued kissing him and ran her fingers slowly through his hair, stopping now and then to mess up the style in a playful manner. They continued for a bit longer before she moved her arms around his neck again.
“So, what do you want to do?” Katherine asked.
“I don't know,” he answered, thinking. “What do you wanna do?”
“Let’s take a walk.”
“Okay…. Where to?”
“The lake, I love walking next to it.”
“Okay,” said Damian, nodding and smiling at her.
He held her hand as they walked out to the lake, where they spent the night talking to each other about their own personal joys…. Their first date was spent getting to know more about each, and watching each other under the dim moonlit shore, with the moons glowing reflection dancing on the Hogwarts Lakes rippling waters.
