An old fic, but yeah, it might kick start me into writing again..
The door slammed against the frame, signalling that Hermione had returned to 12 Grimmauld Place she shared with Harry. The grumbling and banging alerted Harry that not everything was well in the world of Hermione. He cast a glance at the doorway to the hallway, then back at his partner Blaise Zabini before sighing. If he ventured out to see what had happened to his best friend, he was sure to have his head bitten off. The slamming of Hermione's door made him sit back down on the settee, not wanting to have his head bitten off so early in the week.
The following week found Harry walking in on Hermione bent over the table in tears, clutching onto a slip of parchment. His strong hand on her shoulder made her jump and look at him, more tears threatening to spill as she held the piece of parchment out to Harry. A frown crossed his face as he skimmed the note, dropping it back onto the table in front of her. He fell to his knees and pulled her into a tight hug, letting her tears seep into his shirt as they sat there.
Harry had desperately tried to cheer up Hermione. Even going as far as taking her shopping in the biggest muggle shopping centre he knew of. Watching her finger the fourth dress in as many shops, even Harry had to conclude that he wouldn't be able to cheer her up as easily as what he had thought. He finally decided to leave Hermione in her room until she allowed Harry to enter. He was at a loss now. He hated it when Hermione was in a slump as bad as she had been, an idea brewing in his mind.
Slipping out of Grimmauld Place, he apparated to The Leaky Cauldron and asked the bartender for their finest bottle of Ogdens Firewhiskey. Thanking the bartender, Harry returned home and found a distraught Hermione being soothed by Blaise. He shook the alcohol in their direction and saw Hermione instantly perk up.
"Give me the drink and no one gets hurt," Hermione's voice sounded rough from too much crying, but Harry was glad to finally hear her speak. He passed the bottle over to her and summoned three glasses. Hermione poured it out and downed hers in one. Blaise and Harry looked on in amazement as Hermione repeated the process twice more.
"Your problems won't disappear because you reached the bottom of the bottle you know, Hermione," Harry joked, silenced quickly by the piercing glare from the brunette witch. "Now, care to explain why you have been so up and down the past couple of week?"
Hermione dropped her head, tears once again seeping down her face, "You know that guy I had been seeing on and off?"
Harry nodded, sitting next to his best friend and taking her hand, squeezing it gently.
"Well, I saw him with another witch, and another one after that," Hermione hiccuped, before continuing, "and you know what was said in that note about Ron and Luna. It hit harder than what it should have."
Harry nodded, squeezing her hand harder and putting two and two together, "You wanted everything, the white picket fence, two children and even a pet or two. Only to have it ripped out from under you."
Hermione nodded, pouring herself another drink before downing it, coughing when her throat set on fire.
"I'm a horrible person," she mumbled, crying harder.
"You're not a horrible person, Hermione. You'll find someone worth your love and everything else you ever dreamed about," Harry smiled, pulling Hermione into a tight hug, letting her cry herself to sleep.
