Chameleon's Castle
The lives of a Chameleonis and his mates are never dull, especially with tiny little babies, enraged in-laws and a Ministry that doesn't like to let creatures run free. Sequel to Chameleon's Song- M/M, M/M/M, M/F, Preg, Mpreg, Anal, Beast,
Chapter One: MacDougal Mismanagement
Hermione was exhausted, but happy at the same time. She and Roger had found a place where they had everything they needed. Roger could put his coffin, something that he only needed for certain holidays, in the cellar, one room past the potions lab they would share, and Hermione had a library where she could display her books, with plenty of room for additions.
They had three bedrooms, one of which Roger wanted to make into a nursery for their future children, and a yard that was big enough for a quidditch pitch to be built with room to spare.
The house was located behind a church near Rowena's Ridge, so there was a graveyard nearby, and the only neighbors were several elderly couples who treated them like grandchildren. This might have been because most of them had lost their grandchildren to Voldemort's death eaters in one or the other of the Dark Lord's attempts at conquest, and they saw the young couple as a replacement for those lost family. All in all, it was a wonderful place to live, or die, as Roger kept pointing out.
“You aren't dead. That's just vampire propaganda.” She corrected him
“It keeps people from trying to kill me, though.” Roger smirked and Hermione was reminded of the Malfoy men. “But, it will be a great place to be with you. Come, we must christen it properly. Each and every room.” and he whisked her from her feet and started with the entry hall, which was what led to her present condition. She would have to skip visiting Harry and his harem today.
Isabel was bound and gagged, left in the dark and alone. She had not been so frightened since the day that Cho came into the Ravenclaw tower at the height of her heat. Now, as she lay there, unable to do much else, she thought about her future, and how to get free to see it come to fruition. This had to be her parents' involvement, though she had never believed they would go to this length. Her mistake of underestimating them would never happen again.
The red envelope was still attached to the owl's leg when Harry arrived home, his mates keeping him away until he understood what was going on. They were afraid that the howler would go off while he was gone, disrupting the quiet and upsetting the small Veela in their nursery. With as fragile as they were, who knew what effect one bit of bad mail could have.
Silencing charms were set up, warding the babies' room so that they would likely sleep through it, and when Harry opened the door to the parlor, where the owl waited, it dropped its load and flew away. The scarlet letter flew open, screaming in a woman's voice, one he did not recognize, and making his ears ring.
Mr. Potter!
How dare you try to taint my daughter! I will not allow this marriage to take place! We have groomed Morag since birth to carry on our legacy and you will not undo our labors. We have taken her somewhere that you will never find and until she has been wed to a wizard that we approve of, you will not see her again.
If you try to take her back or compromise her in any way, we will not hesitate to turn you, and your nest of impurity, over to the Ministry. My son has told me that there are a few creatures among your brothel that they might be interested in.
Good day!
And in lieu of a signature, there was an insane cackling.
Harry was so shocked by the letter that he put his face into his hands and sobbed. Hands wrapped around him and pulled him close, touching him and reassuring him that things would be all right. He knew there were at least three of his mates with him, Draco, Blaise and Susan, but when he looked up, there were George and Fred, Cedric and Luna, all supporting him. Oliver stood near the door, glancing down the hallway, toward the wing where the babies stayed.
“What are you gonna do, Harry?” Luna asked and her smile made it seem so simple.
“I can't do much, Luna. I can't risk you all.”
“It's no risk for some of us.” Blaise suggested. “I'd say, only Susan and the twins, other than yourself, are at any risk. Shea, Draco, Ollie, Luna and Cedric are from lines that are protected, even from the Ministry. Me, well, they're afraid of me and would more likely send me out of the country. So, I guess you four should decide what we do.”
“Oh, no. You are not going to let them get away with this on my account.” Susan announced. “I'd rather swim for the rest of my life in a Ministry pool, than let those prejudiced arses win.”
“If they come for me and Fred, we know little something about flame that would make Fiendfyre look like a weenie roast.”
“I'm not afraid for me, if they take me, go to the papers, get Hermione and my father's mates, storm the Ministry, whatever it takes. Drop those ridiculous names as often as you can, The Boy Who Lived, The Chosen One, Savior of the Wizarding World. Get attention and force them to deal with the public. If I've got to be famous, it should work for me, for once. Mostly, protect the babes. They can't get in the castle, so keep them, the twins, Cedric and Susan in here. Draco, you too. Our babies need you.”
“So, what will we do?”
“I've no clue. I don't know where they've taken her, but I think I know someone who does. I need to talk to Frank MacDougal, Isabel's brother.”
“I'll go to see him, you stay away, cause they won't like your interference. I'll find out what he knows and tell you. It's safer for us all.” Oliver said and Harry nodded.
“While he does that, you should go about business as usual. Nothing changes. And that means, you go to work, all of you, and those of us who are in the most danger, like Susan, stay here. She can give her boss the excuse that she's feeling ill, since she should be experiencing those early symptoms soon.” Draco took back his role of 'mate in charge' and the others were comforted by that.
The twins were already taking time off from their shop, leaving it to Shea and Blaise to run, while the Italian was working toward his potions mastery, so there was nothing unusual about them staying behind the castle wards. Cedric had told his boss that he would finish out the year, so he had to continue to go to the Ministry for a few more months, but if anything was to occur, he could easily get there with an emergency portkey that Harry had arranged for him.
Draco had no job, at present, other than the care of his babies, so he would not be missed among the employed, and Susan wasn't all that fond of her job, so she could leave without sorrow. It was only an inconvenience that she might have to do so because of the beliefs of another family of pure wizards.
“It's so stupid!” She raged. “Didn't they learn anything from Voldemort's demise?”
“Susie, not everyone thinks that he was wrong. Draco's dad for one, still believes in blood status, he just accepts me because of what I can do for his family.” Harry explained.
“How can you make excuses for him?”
“I can't force my beliefs on people any more than they should try to force me. It would be so hypocritical of me.” Harry sighed and leaned back against the headboard, “It's like my dad. When he came into his inheritance, he just did what he wanted, without thinking about his mates. As a Chameleonis, I think he had responsibility for those mates, as well as his children, and he left them. It was wrong, in my thinking, but what if he had a reason, other than my mother's wishes? I can't fault him, even though I want to, because I don't know what he believed.”
“So, now you make excuses for him, too?” Susan was about to climb out of bed, but Harry put a hand on hers and she stopped.
“I can't make excuses for him, because of the pain that his mates still feel, but I can't condemn him, He was my father. I can't condemn Dumbledore for thinking that I had to die to save the world, even though it would mean I was dead and then none of my mates would be having my babies. He thought he knew what was necessary, and that was his belief. Hermione, Ron and I found another way, and here I am, but that doesn't negate his beliefs.”
“I'm glad you didn't die, but I still feel angry about that.”
“So do I. Come here.” Harry held his selkie close, feeling her heartbeat slow and her tension leave her, like water skimming off of her fur, and then he said, “I love you, Susie, because you can still be angry, but you can understand, too.”
“Just, don't leave me. I'd come find you, and kill you myself.” she said as she drifted off to sleep in his arms.
He knew she meant something more permanent, so when he climbed out of her bed, he kissed her forehead and whispered, “I won't leave you. I promise.”
For now, he needed to calm a few other mates, before they would sleep as well as she. He went to Shea, first, then the twins, then Cedric, then Luna, who had gotten all O's on her NEWTs and would move in permanently when school let out for the summer. He made his rounds, ending with Blaise at two in the morning, since the dark-skinned man didn't have to go to the shop until noon, and that is where Harry stayed until he rose to go to work.
Draco was sitting at the table in the larger kitchen, while Mizzy, his elf, was preparing breakfast for each mate that came down. “I guess I don't rate, now, eh Potter?”
“Draco, you promised.”
“I'll call you Harry, when I don't feel slighted.”
“You were already calm, and sleeping, when I came by your room.”
“I was exhausted, but that means little to a Veela. Did you listen to my sister, at all?”
Draco was not a full Veela, since his mother was not of a Veela line, but Harry's sister, Fleur was, having been born from his father and Lucius, and the Chameleonis line created a pure form of the line it mated. Fleur had told them, when Draco's babies were born, that Veela craved touch, cuddling and closeness. Harry had failed his mate, once again.
“I'm sorry, Draco.” he said, moving behind and sliding his arms around the blond, and resting his head on Draco's shoulder. His mate stiffened, but did not pull away, lifting his hands to hold onto the arms that encircled him. He relaxed almost immediately. “I guess I have too many mates, after all, if I could think of slighting you.”
“Don't be stupid, Harry. You were tired, too. Sleeping with Blaise was what you needed. I'll be fine, so long as you don't forget that I have needs, too.”
“I have every faith that you will remind me, quite often.” Harry kissed the back of Draco's head and the Veela made a sound that could not quite be called a purr, but Harry had no other names for it. Perhaps a croon, would work, but he doubted Draco would appreciate the reference to something birdlike. The blond refused to accept that his inheritance had any relation to something as common as a bird, and insisted it was more angelic in nature. So, maybe the sound was a musical note, like part of a heavenly choir. Harry almost, but never in front of his prickly mate, laughed.
“What time will you be home?” Draco asked, releasing his arms and pushing him away, so that Harry could eat the food that Mizzy had placed on the table.
“I'm gonna try for early, but Ollivander wants to show me how he connects Unicorn hair to wands today. We're going to visit Hagrid, to collect the hairs he's gathered in the forbidden forest.”
“So, you'll be having lunch with the half-giant?” Draco smirked and Harry knew it was coming. “Try not to mate him, we've no rooms where the ceilings can be extended available.”
“Right, like I'd mate Hagrid. Please, Drake. I have some standards. I don't care for men that are old enough to be my grandfather. I'd sooner mate your father.” and the look of scandal that crossed the blond's face was worth the previous tease. “And I'm not going to do that, either. Kiss everyone for me, I gotta run.” and he downed the last of his juice and rushed out of the door.
“I'm not kissing anyone for you!” Draco shouted at his back. “Stupid Potter.” he growled into the remainder of his eggs after the floo sound had died.
“What did Harry do, now?” Oliver asked from the door. Draco sneered, but it turned into a smirk.
“He left you a message.” when Oliver smiled, Draco put down his fork and stood, crossed the distance and planted a quick peck onto the Dryad's lips. “He had to go in early. Pass that along, won't you?”
Harry walked beside the aging wandmaker as they made their way down the path to Hagrid's hut. The half-giant was waiting in the pumpkin patch, his left hand on a large one and a strange looking staff in the other.
“I know I promised to get you a unicorn tail hair, but I've had a bit of a snag in collecting it. I was hoping Arry here could help me.” the big man said and Harry tilted his head as he listened to the explanation. “There's a problem with the Centaurs. I need to get them to negotiate, but they won't, unless someone who has a perfect understanding of their needs were to be the proctor. I know you don't have a Unicorn, or a Centaur, mate, but . . ..”
“You want me to mate one, so that I can arbitrate?”
“Ideally, you would need to mate with one of each.” Hagrid actually blushed and Harry burst out laughing.
“Not really. Give me your hand, Hagrid.” Harry said with a smile, and the Keeper of Keys and Grounds did so. Harry smirked when he remembered Draco's warning, but he did not consider this to be mating. His body swelled, extending, growing, expanding and stretching. He shot past both Ollivander and Hagrid, to stand a good four meters in height. It made him dizzy, and he leaned against the side of the hut. “So, this is how it feels to be tall. I'll have to see if Flitwick will let me try being little, too.”
“Arry?” Hagrid squeaked up at him. “How?”
“Don't need to have sex just to gain the traits. I just need physical contact. I've gotten about seven other creatures from this. One of them is Unicorn, through Percy's wife, so I don't need that one. Just bring on a Centaur and we'll be good.”
“You better come back down here, first. They won't be coming near with you like that.”
Before Harry could comply, the ground shook and the trees swayed. They broke apart, literally, and between them stood Hagrid's brother, Grawp. “Da?” the giant said, throwing himself into Harry's arms and crying like a child. “Da!”
“Oh, dear.” Ollivander said with a smile. “While you have him still, mind if I harvest a few clippings from his toe nails?"
Review responses from Chameleon's Song:
AlyAJay: Thank you. I'm gonna try to do better, but I still have three semesters left and that may interfere.
Anon: I guess that would work, since everyone keeps suggesting it, but I'm concerned about the Moderators.
Gobert: Not surprised that you volunteered for that. I promise to bring Cedric's nipples back, and more babies with different births. Okay, so this is an issue, but I'll try it.
ChaosLady: Sorry to bog down your day. Glad you're going to keep on with me though.
Jan: Thanks. Glad to have you along.
Sailor Sol: Wow! I never thought of myself as a “wicked, nasty, evil child”, especially in the last few years. Okay, so if you're here, you've got the answer to that last question, and I hope you've found the other stories, as well.
