The doors to the dim lighted counselling room was thrown open by the guards. A knight in shining armour stepped inside the room. He was holding a rolled peace of parchment in his hand, his expression dire. He stopped in front of the oval table, hosting the King and his counsellors, and bowed to the King. He held out the parchment to the closest member of the counsel as he said, “A message from the Kingdom of Yodral, your majesties.”
The words caused a cold wind to claim the room instantly. Everyone in the room shared a worried glance at one another. In these times of uncertainty and chaos, any news from the neighbouring kingdom could be countered to a declaration of war, braking the recently build up peace between the kingdoms. Sir Arthur Weasley, one of the counsellors, reached for the parchment unsurely. Once the parchment was opened, his expression changed into one of concern.
“What is it, Arthur?” asked King James of the Wheca Islands. “What does it say?”
Sir Arthur took a deep breath before speaking. “It seems, your grace, King Draco has passed, due to his sickness, as we feared. The decease being the one that took his father, the shamans were unable to heal him.”
Silence followed the declaration. The only heir of Yodral Kingdom’s death meant, the throne would be passed to the closest family member, that being the half-brother of King Lucius, Rodolphus. This was bad news for both Kingdoms. Rodolphus was known for his hatred against the Whecas, and his disapproval of the peace agreement his late brother had signed. Only a miracle would prevent the oncoming war, the letter proved.
“Rodolphus is sure to be crowned, as we feared. We must prepare for a war, my lords. I won’t break my promise of peace to the people of Yodral, unless my kingdom is attacked. But hopefulness won’t protect my subjects. Any attack is to be answered equally. Be prepared Lord Lupin.” The King ordered. Lord Lupin, the commander of Wheca army.
Lord Lupin was confident, his man were ready to fight and die for their countries. “As you command, your grace.” He answered. “Then again,” he continued, “it is, however, curious that the same illness would take the two kings, one after another. Ones in great shape of health, at that. Our seers has warned us about this and it seems they were correct once again. The forces working against the peace are stronger than we deemed them to be.”
“I agree with Lord Lupin, your grace. We should have acted earlier. It should not have come to this. Alas, the dark curse is upon us. This will affect your children ghastly, especially you’re youngest. The prophecy unfolds itself, again, as the seers predicted.” It was Lord Albus Dumbledore who brought up the subject of the ancient prophecy. It was about the third child of the peace-bringer. The girl, who was fated to be a great warrior, and to face great misery in her lifetime. Only after her bond was completed, both kingdoms would see the endless days of light.
In the lands of Gods, life was ruled by the Gods, each being in control of their own territories, bringing people together for a peaceful order. The God of Fate, Ygdarr, would bond people together for a union of marriage. The bond was mandatory, and to defy the bond meant to defy Ygdarr, meaning facing his fury. The deniers suffered greatly under the fury of Ygdarr, and always obeyed him at the end of their suffering.
The prophecy said the bond of the third child of the peace-bringer would take part in establishing an ever-lasting peace. It told the Wheca about a time of peace, to be lived shortly, until the war blazed out once more. The prophecy had one more promise for the kingdom, another King, following the peace-bringer after his death, declaring King James’s death to be very soon.
The long silence was broken by James this time. “I don’t fear for my daughter, my Lords. She is strong in spite of her age. I believe she will overcome her task. We must focus on the matters of the present, at the moment. The Islands of Wheca must stand no matter what the consequences. Send a raven and give our condolences to Yodrals. And let us hope the peace is not broken.”
Across the Onasis Sea, in the capital of Yodral Kingdom, another conversation was taking place behind closed doors. Mother of the late King Draco, Queen Mother Narcissa was listening to Lord Severus, grief and worry carved into her face. Lord Severus was trying to convince her to run into hiding, for he feared for her life, if she stayed in the castle for longer. She had power over the south, where her uncle was the shielding commander of the region. She could aid him in marching to the north, take down Rodolphus’s forces and take the throne for himself.
“You must do as I say, Narcissa. Listen to reason, please. Rodolphus will try to use you to strengthen his command. Lords in the southern coast will support him only if you support him as well. They are still loyal to your family. Without you, they will rise against Rodolphus-“
“You ask me to run back home, and collect an army to take down Rodolphus, Severus. And believe me, it is what I wish to do. But his forces won’t let me reach out of the city walls, let alone take a journey of almost a month to reach Apex, and reunite with my uncle. Rodolphus knows how important I am for his claim, he won’t risk it.”
“Once the south rise up, you will be of no importance, only a captive, expendable. You must leave before your Uncle sets over.”
“But, how?”
Narcissa knew she had to leave. And she wanted to leave, for this castle she once had seen as home was the home of her enemies now. She had been mourning after her husband when they took her son from her. She knew it, her son was murdered, just like her husband. And she wanted revenge. But with guards surrounding her in every possible way, she didn’t know how she could leave the castle, let alone travel to south.
“I will find a way, Narcissa. I will arrange your escape, and send you off to your uncle. Your journey won’t be a safe one, we both know this. But your residence here is not in any way safer. Please, leave while you can.” He was desperate to get her to safety. He had promised her husband, King Lucius, that after his death, he would look after his wife and his son. Severus had failed to keep his promise once, and was determined to never repeat it. Narcissa’s safety was important for both him, and the cause against Rodolphus.
“Very well, I will leave.” Narcissa declared. Severus’s expression softened for a second until Narcissa continued. “On one condition. You will leave with me. I won’t leave you behind.”
Severus only answered with a small smile. Their journey would be a long and dangerous one, but as courageous at the same time.
