Severus Snape potions master of Hogwarts School, was completely fed up with the idiotic ignorance of those imbeciles in charge of the Ministry of Magic. As if it wasn't enough having his life work, to destroy the Dark Lord classified as fiction.
Years upon years of work, hunting horcruxes. Bribing goblins to get to a musty cup once belonging to Hufflepuff. Fighting Inferi, on a underground cave in the middle of winter, surrounded by frigid water for absolutely no reason at all, to later having to disgrace himself by stealing from non other than Sirius Black. Scrutinizing every inch of a gigantic dusty old castle looking for a fable artifact, only for such artifact to be found by Longbottom no less. Although to be fair, the item's possession of Longbottom was highly entertaining. Battling a monstrous size snake, single handed with nothing but a Basilisk fang. And the worst of all, having to scour hundreds of documents for the location of the Gaunt residence. That one wouldn't have been so appalling if didn't consist of days trap in a moldy, dusty endless room in the bowels of the Ministry. Then for the grand finale, creating a unique potion with the purpose of keeping the little ingrate Potter alive, while killing the horcrux lodge in his forehead. Not to mention the showdown at the cemetery, but again to be fair, that was mostly Dumbledore. No, all that priceless work was now also, thankless.
They were immense glad that Voldemort was once and for all dead. The only problem is the they already tough him dead for the last fifteen years and anything done after was complete fiction.
But no more on this fiasco, the current one involve the addition of a highly dangerous love potion on the fifth year syllabus. Those incompetents at the Ministry finally decided that teaching impressionable sixteen years old Amortentia was maybe a little much, instead they decided to teach the fifteenth years old children the mother of all love potions. Technically it wasn't a love potion as it didn't forced his victims to feel unnatural attraction with another. What it did was to bind the victims in a magical, legal and most importantly, unbreakable matrimony. Granted the chances of that happening were almost negligible, almost.
The thrice cursed Invenio Anima, an ancient potion use primarily to find one's true love. Whatever that means. Was to be brew by the fifth years, and to ensure no binding occur between the hormonal dunderheads, Professor Snape himself would add the last ingredient. A single hair of his own head. As to why he as the one slowly getting bald for the privilege of imbeciles, simple, there was noway in hell Professor Snape could be the true love of any of his students, and the fact that both subjects - victims - of the potion needed to be within touching reach of each other. So of course the illustrious people in the Ministry decided Severus Snape would be the perfect fit.
"… I refuse!"
"Really Severus!" the headmaster began, "You know it's very improbable that any binding could occur. Especially considering that you already had… well..." That was Dumbledore not so subtle way of refereeing to Lily Evans. As far was Severus concern any devotion he felt for the late Lily Potter was nullify by his work bringing down the Dark Lord. Sure he would always look fondly on the friendship they shared, but to be forever in love with a dead woman - that chose another man - not likely.
"The trouble isn't a potential binding to myself," replied Severus, adding a glare for good measure."Amortentia at least relied on unicorn hair, that's rare enough to hinder most idiots trying. The Invenio so simple it can be brew on a disused bathroom with a standard potions kit," The awful tough of Granger binding with both Potter and Weasley at the same time came to mind. He shook his head to ward off thought. Why he needed to explain this to the ancient wizard was beyond him. "Do you want lovesick fools getting married on school ground?" Then again the golden trio were on their sixth year, but if Miss insufferable Granger found a new potion not covered in her year… He had no doubt she would make it herself.
"The age of darkness is gone my friend," Smile the headmaster, spreading his hands to encompass his office as if expecting dancing unicorns to parade behind him. "We could all use little more loving"
"You..." Spluttered Severus while completing in his mind - addle brain simpleton. "On your head be it, I will not be responsible for any disaster that will occur!" Famous last words.
