I Remember
A Hogwarts Slashfic by JediGurrl
Credits: Got the idea for this after hearing the song 'Softly as I leave you' on the radio the other day, not /technically/ a songfic, but if you want to know what Sirius' note was, that's it. Look it up.
As usual, not mine, just borrowing, not selling, just sharing. No profit is being made, and no copyright infringement is intended.
Warnings: Not really as slashy as my usual, but more fluffy/mushy. But still, if you find the idea of romance between two men gross or unholy or whatever, you should probably go read a story about Jesus and some nice fluffy bunnies or something.
Now on with the story
I read your note. At least a dozen times. I know the song, remember when you first sang it. It was Lupricalia, beginning of our fifth year.
Sometimes I'm still anxious about that first Lupricalia, that I talked you into it, coerced you somehow, didn't really let you decide for yourself. Did I ever tell you that? That even still, however many odd years later, that I still worry over that?
I remember so much more than that one morning though. I remember waking up in your bed just as often as my own, the pair of us an inseparable tangle of lanky teenage limbs.
I remember a dog, as well as a stag and a rat of course, keeping me sane through three and a half dozen full moons, and a scattering of others before the world very nearly went to hell in a hand basket.
Then when Jamie and Lilly were murdered, and the only evidence was that you were the one at fault, I believed it. I had to.
Moony never did though. You were Pack, and more than that you were our mate. You wouldn't have done something like that.
Things were rough for a long while, each of us trying to convince the other that they were mistaken.
I remember the first day on the train, me half-falling into a compartment, two dark heads turning to watch as I managed to extract myself from a tangle of too-big robes and a bent wire toad carry case.
I remember one pair of glasses being slid up, an exchanged glance, matching smiles.
To be honest, the pair of you terrified me.
I remember hundreds if incidents, both in school and after, James was always the ringleader, I was always the voice of reason, and you were the deciding vote either way, because Pete, well, he'd just go along with whatever we were doing.
But what I remember most, even through all that's happened since, I remember a rash, insane promise that two completely love struck seventeen year olds made to each other the morning after the last full moon of their last year at school.
I remember it word for word.
I intend to keep it.
I will see you again Sirius, when all this madness is over, and it will end, I'll see you again.
One way or another, a promise made will be a promise kept.
I remember.
