A night at the Malfoys'
The next day was damn near unbearable. Draco was smugly pleased that Thea would be staying with him over the weekend, and soon all of House Slytherin knew about it. A number of times Thea had had to force back hot tears as she dared to wonder what might happen to her at the infamous Malfoy estate.
So preoccupied was she in her own thoughts that she did not notice the watchful eye Snape kept on her whenever she was in his company. A number of times he watched her tense up almost imperceptively as Draco walked past her. A few times he circled his arm around her waist as he talked to his followers, as if he and Thea were already a couple. Her eyes had flashed on each occasion, but she had had the sense to keep silent.
Snape wished that there were some way he could help the poor girl. He knew that there was no way he could prevent her initiation into the Death Eaters, it was practically in her blood. After all, was her father not one of the most influential of the Inner Circle? Snape had met the man on a number of occasions and knew he would not be denied. Thea had no chance of escape.
But to be subjected to Draco's, and most likely Lucius', designs was a disgusting thought. Just thinking about either of the Malfoys forcing themselves upon Thea, left Snape feeling queasy and intensely furious. But again there was nothing he could do without calling attention to himself. And he had decided a long time ago that his mission was more important than individual lives.
His face was completely blank as he watched her leave his classroom, knowing that when she returned after the holidays, she would never be the same. By then she would be in the very thick of it. Just like him.
The journey back to the Malfoy's was quick and easy. Draco merely had his people carry their luggage outside of Hogwart's ground and then grabbing Thea around the waist he apparated them to the family estate. Of course he did not think to ask if Thea could apparent herself, which she could. Although Thea suspected it was just another excuse to touch her.
The Malfoy estate was awe-inspiring. Thea's own family home was impressive, but it had nothing on the Malfoys'. It wasn't so much the size that was shocking, Thea's own was roughly the same, it was the colours and the furniture. The house was like an ice palace. Everything was frosty whites, greys and blues. Occasionally a room would be warmly decorated in rich reds, greens and black, but even then the furniture would be chiselled as if out of ice. There were hard lines everywhere you looked. And of course there were a good number of perpetually terrified house elves sneaking about the place, attempting valiantly not to be seen as they carried out their work. Thea found it hard to summon sympathy for house elves as a whole, as she had been brought up with hundreds working for her own family. But she felt a twinge in her heart when she saw the pure terror in these house elves. She wondered what could have been done to them to make them that afraid? As with many things pertaining to the Malfoys, she simply didn't want to know.
Draco showed her to her room. A lavish affair filled with rich reds and icy white. A huge four-poster bed took up most of the room, and was swathed in blood red quilts and sheets, black pillows piled against the ornate head board, and white muslin hanging down in waves to cover the whole affair.
Thea was surprised when Draco merely showed her where everything went and where the private bathroom was, before rushing down the hall calling that she should come down when she was ready, and instructing her to dress in her 'finery'. The last was said a the hint of mockery in his rich voice.
With a sigh, Thea moved her clothes into the large wardrobe making sure to carefully hang her dinner outfit for the evening. It was a long, backless deep red dress; so dark it appeared black in certain lighting. Her mother had bought it especially for this occasion. Thea imagined that her mother was already planning Draco's and her wedding. After all, marrying a Malfoy would ensure the family bloodline was only strengthened.
Thea went to run herself a bath pouring in some off the delicately scented bath oil resting on the side, and removing her clothes stepped in. With a flick of her wand bubbles began coursing through the water, and Thea sank her body low into the soothing heat. With a resigned sigh, she closed her eyes.
