CHAPTER TEN

‘Harry... Harry.... wake up...’ Leave me alone. ‘Harry... wake up!’ No! He tried to brush the voice away but he was shaken awake at that moment by Hermione and Ron.

“Harry mate! Are you okay?” said an anxious looking Ron. “What happened?”

Hermione, seeing that Harry had opened his eyes flung her arms around him sobbing.

“Oh Harry! I’m so sorry about this!”

“Shhh... you’ll wake him.” Harry said softly, stroking Hermione on the head. “Madam Pomfrey says he’ll be okay.”

“What happened to him? “ Ron asked, staring at Malfoy who still sleeping. “Why’s he in here?”

“He- he- had an accident down in the Prefects bathroom and nearly drowned-”
Harry said not looking at Ron in the eyes.

Ron snorted. “Graceful ferret isn’t he?”

“Oh Ron! Just shut up!” Hermione hissed turning on him.

Ron jumped. “Wha- what’s wrong with you?”

Hermione shifted uncomfortabley and looked at Harry.

“It was all my fault.” Harry murmered.

Hermione placed har hands on Harry’s. “Oh don’t say that! Of course it isn’t!”

“You guys- is there something I’m missing out on?” Ron asked uncertainly.

“No Ron!” Hermione said irriitabley.

“Well then, I’d like to know why I’m having my head chewed off by you Herm!” said Ron a little loudly.

Hermione opened her mouth angrily but her look softened at Harry’s expression.

“It’s okay Herm.... Ron’s got a right to know now....”

“Damn well I do!” said Ron.

“But-”

“It’s fine.” Harry looked at Ron’s annoyed face and ran his hand through his hair.

“Ron- what I’m about to tell you will probably shock you and I wouldn’t blame you if called it quits with our friendship...”

Ron’s eyebrows disappeared into his hair. “What?”

“You see.... Draco-”

“Draco?” Ron said disbelievingly. “What happened to Malfoy, Ferret-boy, and Mudblood hater?”

Harry acted like he hadn’t heard. “We’ve been going out.”

There was a still pause.

“You- you’ve been what?” Ron sputtered. “I-I don’t think I heard right.”

“Yeah you did, Ron. Draco and I, we’ve been going out for five months.” Harry said, watching the color of Ron’s face change pin pink to near purple.

“Holy shit! Are you kidding me? You- and him? Fucking bloody hell!” Ron yelled.

Hermione slapped him sharply across the face. “Will you keep it down?”

Ron stared at Hermione and then to Harry, and then back to her.

“You knew?”

“I found out accidentally!” she said.

“Why didn’t you guys tell me?” Ron demanded.

Hermione rolled her eyes. “Think about it Ron. If we told you, you would’ve gone beserk. I mean, look at you now.”

“Well yeah! I mean, how often do you find out that your best friend’s been snogging your worst enemy?” he said cynically. “And Harry! How could you?”

Harry glared at Ron but then just shook his head.

“Ron, I’m really sorry for not telling you.”

“And Professor Nona’s reading? That was about you and Malfoy huh?” Ron said coldly.

“Like I said, I wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t want to be friends with me anymore...” Harry said quietly.

There was a silence again as Ron looked at Harry and Harry looked back.

“You’re nuts Harry. You really are. But whether you like it or not, I’m not throwing away seven years worth of priceless friendship for something like that.” Ron’s face broke into a small smile.

“Ron...” Harry smiled back, happiness flooding through him. “You’re serious?”
“Bloody serious.” he grinned.

“Oh you guys are so pathetic!” Hermione burst out crying. Like she’d done to Harry, she flung her arms around Ron’s neck.

“Hey Herm?” Ron said, pulling her away from him. “Great timing, I’ve got something
to ask you.”

Hermione wiped her hand across her eyes. “What is it.” she sniffled loudly.
“Will you go out with me?”

Hermione hiccuped and the tears seemed to stop abruptly.

“I’ve been wanting to ask.... but I didn’t have the courage enough...” the tip of Ron’s ears went red. “But will you?”

Hermione looked into Ron’s eyes for a moment skeptically for a moment.
“That’s okay if you don’t want to. I’ll untandtand.” Ron said quickly.

“Of course I’ll go out with you Ron Weasley!” Hermione squealed, hugging him
tighter.

“You will?” said Ron happily.

“Yes! I’ve had the biggest crush on you forever. You’re so thick not to have realized it!” said Hermione as if it had been the most obvioius thing in the world.

“Wow.” Harry nudged Ron and winked.

“Yeah. Wow.” gri grinned sheepishly. “You see, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to ask her cuz I thought that maybe you’d get mad.... I thought you liked her too.... but...” his eyes drifted over to the sleeping Draco. “I guess I was lucky huh?”

“We’re both lucky.” Harry said.

And for the first time in a long time, the Golden Trio felt really golden.
