A/N: Woo, I am on an updating spree... it's kinda strange actually. Oh well, more goodies for you guys.
Harry woke to the feeling of long elegant fingers running through his hair slowly. He blinked and looked up but noticed that other than not being so cold or quite as pale, his ex still looked asleep. “Draco?” he asked softly, not wanting to wake the weakened man if at all possible. Judging from the circles under his eyes he hadn’t slept (or at least not well) in several months.
Draco sighed a little and turned his face into Harry’s neck. “They shouldn’t have brought you here, Harry…”
Harry frowned and pulled back. “If they hadn’t you’d have died!” he snapped in annoyance. “You were freezing to death out here!”
“It would have been better if I had died.”
Harry pushed against Draco’s chest and fought some to get away even though he had put himself there in the first place. “You’re such an arse!” Draco’s arms slackened and Harry all but tumbled out of the blankets and into the cold air. With a huff he gathered his clothes and roughly pulled them on again. “I don’t know what happened to you but I never thought you were this much of a coward to hide out here in the middle of nowhere!”
Draco sighed and pushed a hand through his knotted hair though Harry noted he didn’t open his eyes. “What would you have had me do, Harry?” he asked softly, sounding more defeated than Harry had ever heard. “I mean… look at me for Merlin’s sakes!”
Green eyes softened a bit at that. Despite every intention Harry had to remain furious with the Malfoy, Draco clearly had unusual circumstances. “How long have you been out here, Draco? How long have you let your parents think you dead?” Harry was rather glad the question had a bite to it. He didn’t want to let Draco think he wasn’t still angry. Because he was. Merlin was he angry. Draco had no right to let them all mourn him for so long.
Draco sighed and ducked his head. “I came out here a few years ago… before that I wasn’t able to stay anywhere for long. I’m a ‘dangerous’ species…” Draco muttered. Harry’s heart broke some at how utterly dejected the other man looked and sounded but pushed that to the side. He didn’t want to feel sympathy for his ex. He wanted to yell and scream and rant at him for being alive when he should have been dead. For leaving and joining Voldemort. For letting everyone mourn him. For breaking Harry’s heart!
“What happened to you, Draco? Why are you speaking Parseltounge? And why the hell won’t you look at me?” Harry demanded. Draco’s shoulders stiffened some but Draco still didn’t look up. It was getting on Harry’s last nerve. How dare Draco not even have the guts to look at him in the eye!
“I was cursed, obviously. Part of the curse is partial memory loss… I haven’t managed to remember English yet… and I’m not looking at you, Potter, because I don’t want to fucking kill you alright!” Draco hissed furiously.
Harry gave a bit of a start at that. “Kill me?” he echoed in confusion. “Looking at me will kill me?”
Draco gave a long-suffering sigh. “Yes, dolt. Haven’t you ever heard of Medusa? Queen of the Gorgons? Half snake half woman? Turned men to stone? It’s not like it was all fairytale to scare Muggles. There really was a Medusa once.”
Harry blinked a bit and slowly sat down next to his ex. “Is that what you are then?” he asked softly. Draco nodded and rubbed his face with one hand while his other pulled one of the blankets up over his bare shoulders. “Who did this to you, Draco? And how?”
The once Malfoy Heir gave a single harsh laugh. “Who do you think did it, Harry? And how is a long story that I’d rather not get into right now. Point is… I’m stuck this way and I’m not about to change back so it’d be better to forget you even found me.”
Harry frowned darkly at that. “Forget I found you,” he echoed. “You really think that’s in the least bit possible? You were nearly frozen to death out here and it’s only going to get colder. You know me better than that, Draco. I’m not leaving you out here to die. All curses can be broken. We just have to figure out how and then I’m going to kick your arse for letting us all think you were dead all these years.”
A small smile managed to find it’s way onto Draco’s face. “Is that what you’re going to do? Always have to be the hero don’t you? And just how do you plan on breaking the curse, exactly?”
“I haven’t figured that part out yet,” Harry admitted. “But don’t you think I won’t. First thing we’re going to do though is get you out of here. You’ll freeze if you stay out here.”
“No, Harry,” Draco said instantly. “I’m too dangerous to be around people. One slip up and I’ll kill someone. I’m safer out here alone.”
“Bullshit,” Harry replied instantly. “I know somewhere that nobody can even get into or even knows where it is.”
Draco frowned in confusion. “Where? The Room of Requirement? That’s already an open secret after that DA thing you did…”
Harry rolled his eyes. “No, not there. Some place even more secret. The Chamber of Secrets. Voldemort already gave you the key to get inside. All you need to do is tell it to open up in Parseltounge.”
There were several minutes of silence. “You’re not serious… didn’t you say that was in the sewers or something? You really expect me to stay in a bunch of sewers with the remains of a giant sodding snake?” Draco asked. Harry was sure if he could Draco would be giving him a familiar look that screamed ‘are you insane?’ with his beautiful grey eyes. Harry shook his head. He was not going to think of how gorgeous his ex was. He just wasn’t. He was going to stay mad at him. Sure helping him was his first thought, but that didn’t mean he still couldn’t be angry at the bastard.
“Draco… do you want to freeze?” Harry asked in exasperation. Silence answered him. “Then suck it up and stay in the Chamber for a while. It’s not that bad. Not like the toilets drain into there or anything. At least… I don’t think they do. Didn’t smell like it did. It’s all just… wet.”
Draco shook his head some. “You haven’t changed a bit, you know? Still adorably stupid…”
“And you’re still an annoying prat,” Harry replied, unable to help but smile for a moment. “Come on… we’ve got to get you to the school before the snow gets any deeper. Then I’ll owl your parents.”
“NO!” Draco’s hand grabbed Harry’s arm and the black haired man couldn’t help but be surprised at how strong his grip was. “Harry you can’t! If… if the curse can’t be broken… I’m not going to make them go through all that. I’m better off dead to them. They have Scorpius now… don’t make them relive all that. Please… I’ve caused them enough pain.”
Harry tried not to be moved by Draco’s plea. He really did. But how could he not be? It was heart breaking. He studied Draco’s tightly closed eyes and slightly too thin face for a moment before nodding. “Alright Draco… but when we fix this, because we will, then you’re going to write them yourself. I don’t care how much you complain.” Harry couldn’t stop himself from reaching out to push some of Draco’s hair back from his face. Suddenly, a thought occurred to him. “How do you know about Scorpius?”
Draco smirked some. “Come now, Potter. I’ve forgotten how to speak English. Not read it. Plus I saw him a few weeks ago. He came out here with your boys to drop off another of those stupid little ornaments. Somehow my old house has got it in their heads that I’m that thing that Slytherin left behind and leaving those snake things shows me who not to attack. Utter nonsense of course but how exactly am I supposed to talk sense into them with only Parseltounge?”
“How long have they been doing that?” Harry asked, slightly concerned with the behavior of the kids he was now in charge of.
Draco shrugged. “About two years now. They’re lucky none of the centaurs have noticed them coming and going yet… they don’t like me much. Chased me out of my last place when they found me.”
“All the more reason for you to move up to the castle,” Harry said.
“Fine! You win already, stubborn Gryffindor.” He sounded utterly exasperated but Harry wasn’t fooled in the least. If Draco really didn’t want to go he would have been making quite a bit more fuss over it.
Harry smiled even though Draco couldn’t see it and brushed a bit more hair back behind Draco’s ear. His smile widened when Draco’s head tilted into his touch. “Let’s get you out of here… stupid snake.”
