Alassea Riddle: Thank you so much for your frequent reviews! I don't think we ever really know what the Dark Lord is up to, that's part of what makes him so wonderful, but I'm sure we'll partly figure out what he's planning with Hermione, and why he's being considerate. **don't yell at me for being so aloof**
Nerys: Such a long review, thanks so much for it! As far as your concerns about Snape's alliances, his relationship with Hermione and Dumbledore, etc , I'm hoping to clear that up for you in the next few chapters =)
Bookworm21: I'm not sure if you can specifically follow this fiction or not, they've moved things around on us so I couldn't tell you. I'm sorry I'm not much help =(
Hermione was immersed in committing lines of chant to memory. Focusing very hard on the words, knowing that translating the lines later would be extremely difficult, she did not hear Harry come up behind her. When he placed his hands on her shoulders she jumped, losing her place in the book. "I don't remember healing chants being a part of Snape's assignment Mione." She looked at the book, now frustrated, worried she wouldn't be able to grasp the concept without the Dark Lord's help, and not being entirely sure he would help her. "I was just curious Harry, are you ready for breakfast? I'm starving." He nodded and helped her out of the chair.
A sly look crossed her face, realizing a possible avenue for her venture, "Harry would you consider letting me hurt you, I need to heal someone." Harry stared at her for a few seconds before bursting into fits of laughter. Hermione giggled as she realized how ridiculous she must have sounded, but then she inspected Harry. In his laughing fit he reminded her so painfully of her old friend that she felt guilty tears threaten. She was betraying her friend in the worst possible way imaginable, and she knew that he trusted her irrevocably.
A few tears spilled over and Hermione practically jumped into Harry arms, trying desperately to convey that she did care about him, that she knew he was trying. She felt so guilty in that moment for the things she was enjoying with Lord Voldemort that she thought she might break down completely. How on earth was she supposed to balance these two men? She cared deeply for Harry but she did feel herself becoming increasingly dependent on the Dark Lord's attentions. Her tears increased.
Harry was dumbfounded, why was she crying? She seemed perfectly happy a few moments ago, her joke was hilarious. He knew he hadn't done anything wrong, Hermione loved the way he laughed, the way his glasses became disheveled always made her laugh along. He grabbed her tightly, worried, he could sense she was conflicted over something. He knew it was probably because of the prophecy, but didn't ask, not sure he could handle an emotional rant from her.
He kissed her lightly on the top of the head and squeezed her tightly. Hermione felt so grateful for his affection that she lifted her head and kissed him on the lips, passionately, it was the first time she had ever initiated a kiss. Harry was beyond thrilled. When she pulled away she had stopped crying and looked happier, she was breathing hard and her eyes were glowing. Harry wrapped an arm around her shoulders and reminded her softly that breakfast would only last so long.
She agreed and they walked together out of the library.
The moment they reached the Great Hall doorway Hermione felt a prolonged dull pain in her lower abdomen. Damn. Her period. All of her anxiety about her upcoming birthday had completely distracted her from her monthly hormonal calendar. She looked at Harry, she had to tell him, five days was cutting it close, she wasn't 100% sure her cycle would be over by her birthday. "Harry, come back with me to our room, I need to take care of something."
Twenty minutes later Harry laid back on the bed, exasperated. "Hermione I have been waiting for your birthday since Dumbledore told me back at the Ministry." Hermione blushed, but didn't speak. "You realize that the sooner I get your power the sooner I can begin actively fighting Voldemort, and your telling me your uncomfortable with having sex on your period? Hermione I have to kill the greatest Dark Wizard of all time and you're the only one that can help me!" Hermione found her voice, now deeply irritated, "Harry I refuse for my first time to be that disgusting display of animalistic behavior, delaying our intercourse by one day will not kill Voldemort any faster! I am not your whore! I have a choice in these decisions! If I want to delay sex for a year then I very well will!"
Breathing hard she stared Harry down, hoping it was enforcing her words. Harry glared at her, clearly infuriated. He stood from the bed slowly, looking like a tiger ready to pounce at any moment. He moved slowly towards her, but her anger and stubbornness refused to allow her to move or dodge out of his way. Her stare continued. The apprehension did not build up until he had pressed her against the wall. She whimpered. "Hermione you belong to me, as soon as your birthday arrives I own you, I will control your happiness and comfort in life, without me you're will to live will disappear, it will be like the equivalent of the Dementor's kiss. Therefore, if I want to chain you to the bed and fuck you forcibly while I invite Draco fucking Malfoy to lick your asshole then I damn well will do it."
Hermione screamed. "Harry Potter! I am your friend! How can you speak to me like that? I thought you respected me, I thought I meant something to you! I want to be something more than a tool for sex and power!" She began crying, but her mind was clear, she knew exactly what to say and she knew exactly how to hurt him most. "I'd rather be with Voldemort, atleast I know he is evil, I won't expect him to respect me! I WANT HIM, NOT YOU!!"
The slap across her face echoed around the room and Hermione fell to the floor, Harry bent down, so that his mouth was level with her ear. "I will die before I allow him to touch any part of you. I have been in his mind Hermione, I know all about the depraved things that he thinks about and does. Your life with him would be worse than hell, but I promise, that if you really mean what you just said, I will release you from my service after Voldemort is dead. I'll let you live a life empty of promise since you're so desperate to be away from me."
Harry stood up, not allowing himself to feel badly for hitting her, she had hurt him more than he realized she could and he was angry. "Kreacher." The house elf appeared. "Bring Hermione some decent food, she's not able to make it down to the Great Hall." Kreacher left with a look of hatred and Harry stalked to the door.
At the last minute he turned, "You look like hell Hermione. I have a meeting with Dumbledore tonight, so do not expect me back early." He left the room.
Hermione screamed and threw her shoe at the door behind him. She knew he heard her, but he obviously decided not to react to her outburst. She cried for several minutes and did not notice Kreacher come and go with food, but she ate quietly and thoughtfully after a time. Hermione was never one to cry for long, and although she had been weepier lately she recovered quickly once she was on her own.
She explored her loyalties. Did she want Harry to succeed? Her automatic response was yes, but after a moment she began feeling insecure. She knew about the horrible things Voldemort had done, and would continue to do. However, the Dark Lord was a better alternative for her at this point. She didn't know Harry anymore, and the glimpses of his old self were beginning to hurt her more, they were just painful memories of her past.
The Dark Lord was reasonable towards her, well, as reasonable as a Dark Wizard can be anyway. He gave her mind blowing pleasure as long as she didn't insult him and showed him respect. He, if willing, could probably give her magical knowledge that the school library didn't and would never hold. The temptation was enormous. She would be safe, protected, never under any threat. She could spend her life learning and giving him pleasure, it sounded simple, but she doubted she would ever get bored with him.
All of that screamed nothing but selfishness. She would condemn thousands and thousands of people to death and torture if she left Harry for him. As much as she wanted to in this moment, she knew she couldn't leave, she could not hurt the rest of the Wizarding World simply because Harry had gotten angry and slapped her. She tried to focus on her happiness with Harry earlier when they had been in the library, but that was hard.
Keeping Harry happy was obviously the only way she was going to be happy right now, but she would not let him get away with striking her like that. An argument was one thing, she had expected those, but physically hitting her was another. Harry was not Lord Voldemort, she was not in constant fear of him. Harry would regret what he had done.
She found the door to the common room unlocked and quickly ran up to the girls dormitory. She was already late for Ancient Runes, but for the first time she was fully prepared to skip a class. Luckily, she found Ginny sitting on her bed reading. "Ginny! I've missed you so much! Do you want to go out on the grounds and catch up?" Ginny quickly agreed and stood up to hug her friend.
Soon they were out walking in the sun filled lawns. Hermione had figured out her plan, she knew Harry's fears better than anyone, and fully planned on abusing his fears of failure, incompetence, and weakness. The conversation eventually lead to Hermione's sex life, laughing darkly inside Hermione quickly launched her attack, "Oh no Ginny we haven't had sex yet, we barely do more than snog, but I'm worried." Ginny look puzzled, but intrigued, Hermione knew that Ginny was desperate to spread the news that she was giving so willingly, "What's wrong Hermione?" Hermione acted hesitant, as though she didn't want to say anything, "Ginny I'm only telling you this because I know I can trust you, but Harry is not what we would call well-endowed, at all, and I'm worried about him pleasing me, how could I be with something that small?"
After the conversation Hermione practically watched Ginny sprint up to the castle to undoubtedly tell the whole school about Harry's tiny penis. She knew that Harry was affected by gossip more that he should be and that fact coupled with his fear of failure made Hermione feel confident in her revenge.
That night Hermione stayed late in the library studying, her prefect patrols began soon but her guilt over missing Runes was making her study frantically for her last few available minutes. When she left the library she saw Ron running frantically up the corridor towards her, "Ron! What's wrong? Are you ok? Is Harry?!?" Her mind automatically flew to the worst, Death Eaters were invading, but Ron quickly calmed her fears. "Hermione, Harry's just gotten out of his meeting with Dumbledore, you'll never believe this Mione! Dumbledore is going to help Harry defeat Voldemort! Apparently something about his past can help kill him!! Hermione! Harry can win now!!" He went into greater detail while Hermione stood there and listened, completely stunned.
Hermione's head swam. Her first reaction was of happiness for Harry, but then she thought of her Lord. The most powerful Dark Wizard of all time that could skim through her mind without any effort, who could currently kill everyone at Hogwarts, excluding Dumbledore, without breaking a sweat. Assuming that he had a good reason too, and she consider her residence here coupled with Dumbledore's supposed vital information would be a good enough reason. Her voice cracked, "Ron, where is Harry now?" Ron didn't know, he admitted that there was some bad gossip about Harry going around and that Harry had heard about it, apparently he was now spending some time alone in the hallways before curfew.
Her answer came in a spark of brilliance, she wasted no time feeling badly for Harry and excused herself from Ron. She ran quickly down the hallways until she reached her destination. She banged on his door for ten minutes before he answered, "Professor Snape! Professor Snape! PLEASE ANSWER PROFESSOR!" He swung open the door violently and pulled her inside, "What are you doing Miss. Granger? This is highly inappropriate." "Professor, I need to learn Occlumency, quickly, now." He did not ask why, she guessed he already knew the situation, but for the first time he looked at her admiringly.
He began, "Miss Granger I will not ask you to explain yourself, I know of your presence at Malfoy Manor, I know of the prophecy, and I know that for whatever reason you have chosen to keep this information about the Manor from Mr. Potter and the Headmaster." She looked at him searchingly, ready to plead her case, afraid that he would tell Dumbledore of her secret, but he continued "The Dark Lord has told me his actions, presumably to test me, if his secret is discovered and you are kept from him he will know it was my fault, I will warn you that if your loose mouth causes me to be punished by the Dark Lord then I will punish you greatly." She stared at him, terrified by his threat, for the first time she saw him as a Death Eater, his power became intimidating. "Professor you are the first I've told, I need help, I want to continue seeing the Dark Lord, but I'm worried that he will see things in my mind that will hurt Harry, and others."
Snape looked at her without sympathy, "Granger you cannot survive this by attempting to satisfy both sides, I urge you to decide your loyalties now, our Lord would not like knowing that your inner loyalty remains with the boy, even if you do claim that you want him physically over Potter." Hermione felt like she was losing control of her anger, "And where is Dumbledore in all of this? Why am I, a teenager, expected to deal with the two men that will decide the fate of our world alone? Why does he not help me? Or even offer? Why has he not foreseen that Voldemort would attempt to contact me?!"
Snape sneered, "Dumbledore's faith in people's strength is his weakness. He believes that your decision is easy, he refuses to admit that there might be a darker side to you that is drawn to the Dark Lord. He trusts in your love towards Potter. Additionally, he has other things to worry about than a teenage girl whom he considers safe within the walls of the castle. He is unaware of your nighttime visits beyond the grounds." Hermione fumed, "And where are your loyalties Professor? Which side would you have me pick?"
Snape did not respond for a long time, and when he did Hermione felt the answer was very cryptic, "I will help you as much as I can Miss. Granger, my loyalties do not matter, I would not wish my path on anyone else, especially a young woman like yourself."
Their lesson lasted for an hour and Snape was impressed, Granger far exceeded Potter in her Occlumency skills, even in her first lesson. However, the lesson ended quickly when he saw very clear memories of Hermione's rape and sexual encounters with the Dark Lord. He left her mind as quickly as he could, but Hermione knew what he had seen. She saw his dilated pupils and noticed his heavy breathing. Her memories had turned her Professor on, would he make advances on her now too? She sat very still.
After a long moment Professor Snape cleared his throat, "Miss. Granger our lesson is done for the night, your assignment is to practice emptying your mind every evening before rest, please leave quickly." She understood that he was trying to remove her from an unsavory situation and appreciated the respect he was giving her, she mumbled a quick apology before running back to her rooms. Forgetting completely that hours before she was supposed to have had prefect duties.
Harry was waiting for her when she returned, he still looked angry. She smiled serenely at him, hoping to come across as aloof. His silence broke, "You bitch." She tried not to balk at the insult, "what are you talking about Harry?" He began screaming, "You know good and well that I am not poorly endowed Hermione! Why would you start that rumor?! Why would you add to the ridicule that I'm under constantly?!"
She smiled back at him meanly, "You will never strike me again Harry Potter." He screamed incoherently but she ignored him and walked to the restroom to get ready for bed.
