A/N: Yet another chapter...I may be a bit late on the next one as the 11th is a very personal day for me. Hopefully I can finish the chapter by sunday though...
“Pansy?!” Draco gasped, seeing his best friend.
“Hiya Drakey!” she smiled, standing up.
“What are you doing here? Why are you doing this?”
“I was paid to do this since the person who paid me couldn't. We both were” she replied, grabbing another chair pulling it over and sitting down, “You alright over there Granger? We don't get paid if either of you are severely harmed.”
“Parkinson,” She paused taking a deep breath, “What the bloody hell is going on?!”
“I hired them last night to do this” a female voice drifted to them and they gasped upon seeing Alex walk into the room.
“You're alive?” Hermione asked and the older witch nodded, “What about Ron? Harry? Khira?””
“Both of the boys are safe and sound up in their rooms asleep, and completely oblivious to all of this. Khira is out in the hall attending to the other person we hired” she stated and Hermione started crying again, just as the other 'death eater' returned with Khira behind her, “Show them who you are.”
“Tada!” she said, pulling off her mask to reveal it was Sam from the club, “Thanks for casting that curse back at me Draco. It hurt like hell!”
“You hired Pansy and Sam to torture us?!” Draco yelled, glaring at Alex.
“I hired them to provoke you to the point that your magic became wild. Parkinson wasn't supposed to use that Cruciatus curse. I'm docking five galleons off your pay for that!” Alex stated, glaring at the young witch.
“It was going too slow so I sped up the process” she said, rolling her eyes.
“You used an unforgivable!” he yelled, glaring at her.
“It worked didn't it?” she glared back at him and he huffed at her, looking back at Alex.
“So now what?”
“Now these two leave, we let you out, and you two follow us up to the library and we talk about this like adults” Khira said looking between the two of them.
“Our wands?” Hermione asked
“Are locked up until the two of you calm down. You're not training today. This was your training.”
“She doesn't want us to have our wands because she knows we'll curse her for this. She knows we're both pissed off” Draco said with a scoff.
“That too.”
“Where are we exactly?” Hermione asked.
“The old dungeons below the estate. They've been locked up ever since my father passed, but they came in handy for this” Alex explained
“Why didn't you just do it yourself?” Draco asked, “Why hire these two?”
“Draco, at the mentioning of us bringing up Narcissa she was unable to say it” Pansy replied, “She wouldn't have been able to get her words out correctly if she'd have done this herself. Besides, you would have recognized their voices easily. Sam and me you wouldn't have because you don't talk to us on a daily basis.”
“Alright, let's check on Hermione and make sure she's alright after that spell and then we'll head upstairs and you two can get paid and leave” Khira stated, walking over to the young witch.
She waved her wand at Hermione and cast a few diagnostic spells before glaring at Parkinson, who looked away sheepishly. She looked at Alex for a moment, before receiving a nod. She untied the young witch and did the same for Draco, who rubbed his wrists. Alex motioned for them to follow and they did so, walking out the door and down a long, dark hallway. As they reached the end they noticed there was light at the top of the stairs, and the two felt relieved, even if just slightly. They walked up the stairs and stepped out into the hall, realizing it was directly across from Alex's office. They walked down to the library and upon reaching the room Hermione and Draco both walked towards the far windows, away from the others.
“Here is your payment” Alex stated, handing each of the girls a stack of galleons, “Leave the robes on the table.”
“Darnn, I wanted to keep it for the Halloween party at the club” Sam said with a sneer, but took off the robes anyway.
“Let Andrei know we'll be stopping by next Friday as well” she replied, looking over at the two across the room, “We all need a break.”
“I have the potions for them” Khira said as she walked in.
“We'll be going then” Pansy said, and the two witches walked out of the room.
“Hermione, Draco, come over here please” Khira asked, standing next to a lounge chair.
“What now?” Draco growled once they reached her.
“Sit down, and Hermione you sit on his lap” she replied, and ignored her protests, “Hermione, it will calm both of you down faster if you both are as close as you can be physically. So sit down on his lap.”
“Fine” she said quietly, sitting on the blond's lap and curling against him.
“These are for both of you. Two pepper up potions, a pain potion for Hermione, and two calming droughts” she said, handing them five vials which they took.
“Now, do you both know why I hired them to do that?”
“You told us already. They were to provoke us” Hermione replied quietly, resting her head on Draco's shoulder.
“Yes, but why would I want you provoked in such a manner?”
“You wanted us to recognize when our magic turns into Chaos magic?” Draco asked and she smiled lightly and nodded, “Why torture us though?”
“To provoke you Draco I would have had to mention Narcissa, and no matter how many times I tried the scenario in my head, I couldn't do it. Also, had that been a real situation, what would have happened to Hermione?”
“They'd have used her against me more than you did” he replied, visibly tightening his hold on the young witch.
“Exactly” she said quietly, “You both were obvious, and it can make it that much more effective in forming a way to hurt someone. Had that been your aunt, she'd have tortured Hermione and killed her in front of you, and she'd have not had any restraint.”
“I still don't understand why you chose THIS method” Hermione said quietly.
“Draco, what did you feel when that curse was on Hermione?”
“I needed to break the chains and hurt everyone in that room. Kill every one of them if only to stop them from hurting her and to keep her safe.”
“You wanted her safe, and even here now, you're holding her protectively. Why now after she's safe?”
“To me she isn't safe. She's still hurt, so she isn't safe yet” he replied, looking down at the young witch.
“Correct” Khira replied, sitting next to her wife, who pulled her close, “It is just another sign that you two are mates. As mates, you will feel things no one else will feel. You'll feel your mate's anger, pain, happiness, and more. Right now I am pretty sure I know how Hermione feels but I won't be entirely correct, because only you know the true answer Draco.”
“How do you think I feel?”
“You're scared and angry, but at the same time you're relieved that you're safe and you're in his arms. You feel more safe than you've ever felt before” she replied and the young witch nodded slightly.
“She's also still in pain because she is having aftershocks of the spell, even after having taken the potions” Draco replied, and the young witch nodded.
“I told Parkinson not to use any spells-”
“You knew she wouldn't resist that urge Alex. She's a Slytherin” Draco replied with a scowl.
“Hate me all you want for this Draco, but you both went through it, and so will Potter and Weasley” she replied.
“What?!” Hermione stared at her, fear in her eyes.
“The four of you are wanted by Voldemort more than any others in the world. Potter for obvious reasons, both you and Weasley for your friendship with him, and now Draco for him turning against him” she explained, “You need to know what it's like to be in those situations so you don't get killed.”
The younger witch shook her head at this and kept quiet. Draco could tell the conversation was getting nowhere and kept quiet as well. As the tension in the air built Alex said something to Khira in Russian who nodded, watching her wife leave the room. She looked over at the two of them before sighing and standing up. She walked to the door and paused, turning back to the two.
“You may not understand her reasons, but in time you will. Take the rest of the day off to recover” she said quietly, leaving them in peace.
Once she was out of the room Hermione broke down crying. Draco held her close, letting her do so, nearly breaking down himself. He noticed he felt incredibly tired, but didn't want to disturb the witch in his arms. After a few minutes she calmed down and he placed his fingers under her chin, making her look at him.
“We should both go upstairs and rest.”
“Alright” she replied, making to get up but he stopped her.
“I'll carry you” he said quietly, standing up slowly, her arms around his neck.
He walked out into the hallway and looked around, before slowly walking over to the stairs, and started going up them. The house was eerily silent and he swore he felt they were being watched. Hermione held onto him a little tighter and he smiled down at her. Once he reached the upstairs landing, he turned down their hall and walked over to her bedroom door which he noticed had been fixed, and his had as well, and hers was slightly ajar. He pushed it open with his foot and walked in, before closing it and walking over to the bed. As he went to lay her down she refused to let up on her grip and he chuckled.
“Not going to let me go?”
“Can you stay in here? I don't think I'll be able to be alone right now” she said quietly and he nodded.
He climbed in behind her and pulled the witch close to him, sighing in relief upon feeling her relax. He felt how tired he was come over him and drifted to sleep almost instantly. Hermione followed suit, enjoying the feeling of being in his arms.
~~Downstairs~~
Alex was pacing back and forth inside her office when Khira entered. She looked over at her before starting her pacing again. Her wife sighed and walked over, standing in her way to stop her from moving.
“You did the right thing babe” she said, resting her hands on her wife's shoulders.
“Did I? I should have done it another way.”
“You and I know that wouldn't have happened” she moved to cup her wife's cheek with her hand.
“You know how I feel about Draco. He's like a son to me” Alex said, looking her right in the eyes, “I feel horrible having to put him through that.”
“He's like a son to both of us Alex, but it had to be done. They will get over it, and once they realize it was needed, they will forgive you.”
“I'm not worthy of forgiveness for this.”
“You always say that, but it hasn't stopped you from being forgiven” Khira stated, wrapping her arms around the brunette's waist.
“You really think he'll forgive me?”
“Maybe not today, or in a week, but eventually yes he will” she smiled and lightly kissed her before looking behind her, “You have an owl.”
The brunette turned and looked to see a grand eagle owl sitting outside her window. It pecked on the glass with it's beak and she walked over, opening the window to let it in. The owl flew onto the back of her chair and held out it's leg for her to take the envelope attached to it. She did so and examined the seal before opening the letter, and reading it.
Dear Lady Kruss,
We at the British Ministry of Magic would like to thank you for your patience with us regarding the status on Mrs. Narcissa Malfoy nee Black's burial arrangements. As Mr. Draco Malfoy has stated, his mother is to be buried at the Black Family Cemetery located in Norfolk. We have arranged to have her body brought there the morning of the 12th of July for her burial, which will take place at two in the afternoon. All those wishing to attend the burial will be left to Mr. Malfoy to decide. We will then read her will after the burial has been completed. We ask that you give the second letter we have sent with this one to Mr. Malfoy, and we will see you on the 12th.

“What is it?” Khira asked, walking over.
“Just a reminder of when the funeral for Narcissa will be held and that they will meet us at the cemetery that day at two” she replied, before hearing something upstairs and looking up, “Potter just woke up, and I am sure Weasley will be up soon as well.”
“What time is it?” the blond asked, waving her wand and seeing it was only eight in the morning, “Bloody hell that boy wakes up early.”
“Yes he does, but we need to let him know to not disturb Hermione or Draco today” she said and Khira nodded, standing and following her out of the room.
The two of them waited for Harry, having a light breakfast while they waited. He came down about a half hour later and sat down next to them, asking where Hermione was. They informed him that Hermione and Draco had been training that morning and were to be left alone to recover for the rest of the day. Upon asking they looked over and noticed Ron had come downstairs as well, and waited for him to take a seat before continuing.
“As I was just telling Harry before you arrived Ron” Alex took a drink of juice before looking over at him, “Hermione and Draco both are resting upstairs, and are not to be disturbed the rest of the day. They had training very early this morning and they are very tired from it.”
“What kind of training?” Harry asked, taking a bite of eggs.
“The kind that left them both in no mood to deal with anyone” Khira stated, and they both took the hint and didn't ask any further.
“Today do I have to do the water healing technique?” Ron asked, and Khira nodded, making him groan, “I don't get it. I don't understand how it helps heal someone.”
“Basic human anatomy Weasley” she laid down her fork, “What are our bodies made up of mostly?”
“Water.”
“So if a person is able to manipulate the water in someone's body, they are then able to do what?”
“I don't know...”
“Can you stop someone from bleeding?” Harry asked, and Alex smirked.
“At least one of them paid attention” she mumbled, and Khira slapped her on the arm.
“You can right?” he asked again.
“Yes, you can stop someone who is bleeding badly, but you can only do it for a short period of time. Stopping blood flow can kill someone. You want to only use it for a few seconds so someone else can close a wound with Essense of Dittany or a spell.”
“Remind me when they return to Hogwarts to award them each with house points based on their training” Alex smiled at them and Khira rolled her eyes, while the two boys went back to eating.
Draco stirred later that afternoon and slowly opened his eyes. He looked around and noted that he had turned onto his back and Hermione had curled in next to him, resting her head on his chest. He smiled at the witch and moved his arm to wrap around her once again, laying back and looking at the ceiling. He thought back to that morning lightly scowled at the memory. He knew Alex was only doing what she thought was right, but was still angry she did what she had done. He felt Hermione stir slightly and looked down as she opened her eyes slowly, looking up at him.
“Hey” she said quietly, smiling lightly.
“Hey, you alright?” he asked, and felt her nod, before she wrapped her arm tighter around him, “No you're not. Tell me what's bothering you.”
“Aftershocks of the spell. My back hurts slightly from it” she replied, before wincing slightly just as a knock sounded at the door.
“Come in” Draco stated, the door opening and Khira walking in.
“I wanted to bring up some potions for you both” she said, handing Draco three vials.
“What are they for?” he asked sitting up and looking at the potions.
“A healing draught and pain reliever for Hermione and calming potion for you. I can sense you're upset and my senses aren't as in tune as Alex's are” she said, pointing her finger at him.
“She had no right-”
“I know you're angry because of the training session, and you were just as angry back in your fourth year when she used the Cruciatus on you to show you the side effects” she said, cutting him off.
“This is different.”
“You say that now, but in a few days I bet you will not be as angry” she said, rolling her eyes when he snorted.
“Do you always have to be right?”
“So what? You're too much of a stubborn prat!” she said, placing her hands on her hips.
“Is that a challenge?” he said with a smirk, turning to sit on the edge of the bed.
“Don't try me Draco” she said, turning to walk to the door, ignoring his chuckle, “Also, I suggest the two of you get cleaned up before you go downstairs. You both smell like you've been in the dungeons.”
“You think we really should go see what she wants?” Hermione asked and he nodded.
“Khira probably wants to check on you to make sure you're not having side effects.”
“Alright, let's take these, each of us get showers, and then head down there” she said and he nodded standing up.
Draco walked to the door and went to his room, before stepping inside. He walked over to his closet and grabbed out a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, heading into the bathroom. Placing his clothes on the counter, he stripped down and stepped inside, turning the water on hot. As the water ran down his back he sighed, his muscles relaxing from the heat. He thought again to that morning and sighed; He couldn't stay mad at Alex. She'd always been there for him when he needed her. As he washed himself and rinsed off he calmed down some more, before stepping out. Wrapping a towel around his waist he walked over to the sink and looked at himself in the mirror. He had slightly dark circles under his eyes and a slight amount of stubble on his chin. He shrugged and quickly dried off before putting his clothes on. Taking a final second to look again he yelped upon seeing the figure standing behind him.
“Mum?” he turned, but no one was there, only to turn again and she was standing behind him again in the reflection.
“I'm breaking rules to come and see you my son” she said, stepping forward and placing her hand on his reflected self, and he jumped slightly upon feeling it.
“I miss you” he said quietly, wiping his eyes to keep from crying.
“I know my Dragon, I know. I wish this could have ended another way, but it was meant to happen” she said, and he nodded slightly.
“Why didn't you tell anyone?”
“If I'd have told you or Alex, I'd have disrupted what was to come” she said, reaching out to touch his cheek in the reflection, “You always were so handsome. Your mate is beautiful as well, and I give you both my blessing.”
“You know about Hermione?”
“Yes, I know what her status is and I do not mind. I also know the pain and anger you feel for your father as well” she said.
“I'm going to kill him mum-”
“No Draco! You must not be the one to kill him! She must do it” she replied, hastily.
“Who?” he asked, looking at her confused.
“The one I loved all these years.”
“Alex?”
“Yes” she nodded, looking behind him, “Alex is the one who must kill him. With his death, she will avenge me, and my soul will be at peace. It is the ancient ways of the veela.”
“If murdered the true love of the veela must be the one to avenge them” he replied and she smiled.
“I asked Alex long ago to protect you like she would her own child, and she vowed to do so. She has secretly helped me raise you to the man you should be, not the man your father wants you to be. I'm so proud of you Dragon” she said, and he took a deep breath.
“I wish you didn't have to leave again” he said, looking down.
“I must go Dragon, but I will always be with you, in your heart” she replied and placed her hand on his chest above his heart, before fading away, as the tears fell and he collapsed to the ground, resting his head against the wall.
After Hermione finished her shower, she walked over to Draco's room, knocking on the door. When he didn’t answer she slowly opened the door, seeing he wasn't in the room. She heard him in the bathroom and walked over, before hearing another voice, and what sounded like crying. She knocked on the door but he didn't answer so she knocked a little louder. Upon hearing the crying again she inched the door open before rushing over to the blond, wrapping her arms around him.
“Draco what's wrong?” she asked, as he pulled her close.
“I saw my mum, in the mirror.”
“What?”
“She said she was breaking the rules by coming to see me again, but that she had to let her death happen. She also said that it has to be Alex who kills my father, not me” he replied, wiping his eyes quickly.
“Why Alex?” she asked.
“Alex was the one true love of my mum. Lucius killed her, so it is Alex's duty as her one true love to avenge her by taking his life. Only then can she be at peace.”
“I know you might not be completely over what happened this morning, but let's go talk to Khira. We need to tell her what you saw” she said and he nodded standing up, pulling her up with him.
They walked out of the room and downstairs to the veranda. Upon walking outside they noticed Khira was nowhere to be seen. Gippy popped in next to him, telling him she was by the back lake, and he nodded thanking the elf before it popped away again. They walked through the garden towards the lake, where they saw her sitting on a branch in a tree, staring at the sun as it set over the huge lake, casting rays of orange and red across it.
“Did the potions help?” she asked as they approached.
“I'm still getting random moments of chills, but yes” Hermione replied.
“I wanted to rush in there and hex the hell out of Pansy the second she did that. If it wasn't for Alex I would have” she jumped down off the tree, landing gracefully before turning to look at them, “She hates herself for allowing any of it to happen.”
“Is that why you asked us out here?” he asked, scowling, “To beg us to forgive her?”
“No Draco” she said, turning to look at the water, “She feels she is unworthy of it. It would do no good”
“Then why ask?” Hermione asked.
“Alex won't let you forgive her, so don't try. However, I asked you here to give you this” she said, handing an envelope to Draco, who read it.
“It's the details of my mother's funeral” he said once he finished reading.
“Did it also state that her will is being read that afternoon after the funeral?” she asked and he nodded.
“It did, but why show me this if you knew already?”
“We needed to be certain something wasn't included that isn't supposed to be” she stated simply.
“What's going on Khira?” he asked, seeing her looking to be in a daze.
“I'm talking to Alex while talking to you” she said and looked back at the house, “What are you hiding Draco?”
“Is it possible for someone who died to come back and speak to people?”
“It is not allowed, but it can happen” she said, looking confused, “Why do you ask?”
“I saw my mother.”
“What?” she rounded on him, her eyes wide.
“When I finished my shower and got dressed, I looked in the mirror and my mother was there. She smiled at me and touched my shoulder and I felt it, like it was real.
“The dead are not supposed to break that law...” she mumbled, and continued doing so as she turned, “I don't know why she did it...If he finds out though...No!...No damn you! You are going to stay up there and calm the fuck down!”
“Who's she talking to?” Hermione asked, watching the one sided conversation.
“Remember, her and Alex have a mental connection, and it allows them to speak telepathically. Sometimes though, Khira will forget that she is speaking in her mind and will talk out loud. I've only seen her do it a couple times” Draco replied, watching as she kept mumbling.
“Who's the he that she referred to?”
“No idea” he said, just as Khira turned towards them.
“She didn't tell you Alex is supposed to kill Lucius did she?”
“What? How did you know?”
“It's the only reason she would have broken the laws of the dead to return” she said.
“What do you mean by laws of the dead” he asked, crossing his arms over his chest.
“Cissa only ever loved Alex, regardless of her marriage, but because she had veela blood her death must be justified by the person that she loved. Alex and I both knew how she felt. However, the dead do have laws that they have to follow, and the main rule is no interactions with anyone that is still alive. Vampires are allowed to because we are undead, but spirits are not.”
“Why return to tell me though?”
“Because if you kill your father Draco, your mother's soul will never be allowed to be at peace.”

Princess_of_Slytherin - I know what you mean. I tried to keep Hermione and Draco as human as possible since they are not full blooded creatures.
Luminari_Lilium - Yes, I want to make Alex be a bit of a "mind fucker" for lack of a better term on it lol. Glad you like the story so far :)
