The minute Lidia got home she could tell that something was wrong between her parents. Loki had always made sure to touch her mother and now he was on one side of the room and Hermione was on the other. They both smiled at each other but the soon to be four year old could see the strain in the action. She didn’t let it bother her, Draco had told her that if she noted any fighting between them she should set her sights on something else. She hugged her mother, nodded at her father and tackled Harry practically to the ground. She was so happy to see him that she started telling him all about horse-back riding, painting, playing with clay, learning to swim and the camping trip they had gone on. Hermione watched the interaction with an even more strained smile on her face, she was hurt that her daughter appeared to be happier to see her uncle than her own mother.
“Liddy-bug” Hermione said “Why don’t you bring your stuff to your room and then get ready for dinner” She looked in to the kitchen then added “It’ll be done in a few minutes and we’re having your favorites”
“Spaghetti and meatballs?!” She jumped up and down “I LOVE that meal!” She shook her tiny hands in anticipation.
“There’s also going to be salad that I’ve made” Hermione said “Your father made the spaghetti and meatballs it was the first meal I ever taught him to make”
“Can you teach me sometime?” Lidia asked and Hermione was about to answer her when she realized that she was looking at Loki and not her.
“Sure” He said “I would love to teach you, Liddy-bug”
Hermione felt her heart get just a little lighter as she watched them interact and once again she missed the man that he had been, the man that she had fallen in love with. Lidia walked away to her room with her stuff weighing her down, she seemed calmer, older and just...more of something that Hermione couldn’t put her finger on. After dinner everyone sat in the living room and talked about the party that would take place the next day, it would start at noon and even though it would only be family there it was still going to be big. Lidia told them what she wanted for presents (just about everything in both the muggle and magical worlds) and then everyone told her that she would only being getting rocks. Needless to say she went to bed that night happy to be home, worried about not getting any presents and still wondering about her parents.
“Tomorrow” Thor said “I and the others will be going out to get the presents that everyone has chosen to get”
“That sounds good” Hermione said.
“Luna said that she would be stopping over around four” Harry told her “The rest of us will be back by eleven, so it will just be you, Loki and Lidia until then”
“That’s fine” Hermione said “We’ll have breakfast, get the house ready and get her bathed and pretty looking”
“It will be good” Loki said quietly “Some family time”
“If that’s all” Hermione said “I would like to go to bed now” She stood and looked at Remus who nodded “I have a headache”
She made her way to the bedroom but left the door open, she was getting ready for bed when she noted that Loki was standing just inside the room. He didn’t look happy, not that he looked sad or anything but he did look extremely pissed off. She said nothing just stood there and looked back at him waiting for him to say something...anything and when he did she wished he’d stayed silent.
“So” He sneered “What are you, fucking Remus now” She opened her mouth to say something but he continued “I never would have expected you to be a home-wrecker, but you do have a knack for surprising me”
“How can you be so hateful?” Hermione asked him “I thought you loved me...if you did there is no-way you could say such nasty things to me”
“Hermione” He looked apologetic and her heart beat a little faster “You were mine. You said You Loved Me and yet you’ve had another man in your bed all week...did you even let my side get cold before you let Remus hop in?”
“Oh Loki” She whispered walking closer she put her hand against his pale cheek and watched him flinch a little and then fight not to lean in to her touch “Your side was cold long before you even left it”
“Why do I stay?” He asked “Why would I even want to stay with you?”
“Then leave” She said, all of the strength she had was leaving her, she was just tired of the emotional rollercoaster he put her on “Loki, leave. If it makes you happy leave here, I won’t beg you to stay and I won’t bother you ever again, if in a few years Lidia chooses to see you I won’t even stop it” She wiped at tears on her cheekbones “But I can’t keep pretending to be happy, to watch you pretend to love me when you don’t”
“Who said I don’t?” He asked her “You are the one that is pushing me away”
“I am not” She snapped “You keep getting jealous, getting angry with me for no reason and then throwing up different hurtful things in my face”
“You are mine!” He growled “Mine and no one else’s. No man is allowed to touch you, ever”
“And no man has” She whispered “You got angry about stuff I did before you came in to my life and that’s not fair. I’ve never yelled at you or said anything against you for trying to take over the world, have I?”
“This is different” He tried, he hated the fact that she was able to make him feel things he didn’t want to feel “I can’t” He clenched his teeth tightly together “I can’t allow a man to touch you. I can’t take it...I want...I want to hurt him, Remus for his being in your bed, cuddling you making you feel good. That’s my job”
“Then do it” Hermione challenged.
