Chapter 10
Tossing yet another rejected rental application down on the small table up in the room at the Burrow he was sharing with Bill, Charlie leaned back in his chair and groaned. Scrubbing both hands through his hair, he looked at his brother. From what he could tell, Bill was signing the first of the papers when it came to the divorce.
At this point, they were hiding out as the bottom floor was filled with various kids, so they needed the quiet to think and plan. It just wasn't doing them much good was all. Shaking his head, he sighed. “I think we need to seriously consider Harry and Sirius' offer, Bill. Everything even remotely suitable for us is either too expensive, nasty as hell or we've had the application rejected. The rejections—they don't come right out and say it's you, but we know better.”Pushing the papers he finished signing away, Bill tossed the quill on the table then slouched in his chair and folded his arms over his chest. Looking at the rejected application, he sighed. Quietly, he asked, “How many more applications are we waiting to hear about?”“One and it's that Merlin awful place in the Alley. From the looks we got, it's doubtful we're going to get that one. Even if we do, it's not big enough. We need three bedrooms, something it doesn't have. Even if one is just for show, we need it there to make it look good. This one—not only is it in bad shape, it only has the two. And it's cramped. We can probably put some expansion charms on it, but not much else. Even then, it won't give us the room we need.”Head dropping back, Bill shut his eyes and groaned. Thinking it over, he said, “We'll talk to Harry and Sirius. Even if we can get that place, I don't want it. It's too horrific looking and right dead center in the middle of the Alley. Even at night, the traffic through there is bad. We won't talk about some of the places it's close to. Let's see what they say about what we can do. If they don't mind us putting up warding, expanding and redecorating, we can handle it. Mum would be happy and Fleur wouldn't object as it's a safe place that's heavily warded. We just can't have company over other than the normal. That's not a problem, honestly, as we don't want them around. Sirius and Harry live opposite schedules from us. Hell, they're getting up and heading into the club when it's about time for us to get off work. So, it's doubtful they'll bug us. They aren't going to gouge us on the rent like some have already tried. My problems won't faze either of them. Sirius dealt with worse than that when it came to Remus, so he's good. Harry—that's the only issue I see. There is something off about him, both of us know that. He's Harry still, but strange now. It's not so bad that it'll be an obstacle, though.”“I say we talk to them today,” Charlie told him. “Let's see what we can work out when it comes to some of this. They've said they'll leave us alone and the second floor is ours. Just like the top one is theirs. If we can get something signed to that effect, we'll be good. Both of us can ward that floor the way we need so no one suspects anything. We already know we'd have the rooms we need. The rest is just sharing space, nothing too bad there as it's like the downstairs and kitchen. Victoire would have plenty of room when she visits. We know Teddy goes over there and that he or Andromeda don't have a problem with whatever. I don't think this is a bad option. We can keep looking for somewhere on our own, like a house we can buy, but that's going to take time. We've already attempted that route, but haven't had any luck for various reasons.” Stopping, he thought over what Bill said then added with a sigh, “Harry is different, I give you that. Not to mention what those two are into, but it's nothing we can't handle. We want our time alone and to continue on with what's there. This would give it to us without anyone getting suspicious. It's also a good way for both of us to save money so we can get a house.”Looking at his brother, Bill thought it over then gave a slow nod. “I say we go talk to them tonight and see what they say. We usually give fair warning that we're going to the club, but we shouldn't have too much of a problem. From all we've seen, the two of them have others that actually run the place and they just sit around to make sure there aren't problems. If we work this right, we might be able to move in fairly quickly. Well, once we get it the way we want it.”Glancing at the clock in the room, Charlie told him, “I say we go now. We can grab something to eat on the way. It's early enough that it shouldn't be busy and they won't be involved in anything.”“We'll do that,” Bill said, standing with a groan. It wasn’t that he didn't love time with his family, but it was wearing on him. Not to mention their mum acted like she always had with them, though they were grown. Then there was them wanting to press on with what was there. They sure as hell couldn't do that in this house as they were too afraid of getting caught. No, they wanted out. All of this was hard enough, that they didn't need the added stresses of staying at home. As the divorce went on, though they were trying to make it as amicable as possible, he didn't want to be around tons of people while he was dragged through that hurtful mess. This seemed like a viable option. All they had to do was wait and see what Sirius and Harry had to say.
“Sirius will be here in a minute, he's checking on something in the back,” Harry told Bill and Charlie. Taking a sip of his drink, he asked, “What's up? Nothing's wrong, I hope.” As it was odd for them to show up like this and not give warning, he was slightly concerned. Their body language didn't indicate stress, so he didn't think there was a problem. One never knew though.
“Nothing to worry about, we just need to talk to you both,” Bill assured him. However, he was a little off kilter at what he saw from Harry. Normally when they came in, Harry was dressed like most everyone would be in the usual street clothes. Tonight, though he was in jeans and a sleeveless t-shirt, something normal for many, you could see the ligature marks from where he had been tied up and a few bruises. It wasn't surprising that he and Sirius were into this as they owned the club, but it was really the first confirmation, other than the cuffs and collar, that they were more than just people that watched. It was just—he didn't know, honestly. It didn't bother him, of course, but was slightly strange and gave you mental pictures you didn't want. As the two seemed quite happy together and he knew that Sirius wouldn't ever abuse Harry, he tried to push it aside. There was a curiosity, though. That was all and he planned to ignore it as well. After all, he and Charlie had their own secrets they didn't want out or discussed, so he would give these two the benefit of the doubt as well.About to start asking what about, Harry glanced up to see Sirius coming their way with a plate of food and some drinks. Good. Leaning back, he waited for his bondmate to take a seat then grinned at him, saying, “Thought you might have gotten lost looking at some of the fun toys out front.” That was a normal running joke with them, one that started after they opened when Sirius ended up losing track of time looking through a new shipment of the sex toys for over an hour, so it was nothing odd.Snorting at that and grinning, Sirius pushed the drinks to the right people then put the food in the middle of the table where they could all get to it. “No, nothing fun like that. Just signing off on what we need for inventory. The normal boring shite.” Leaning back, an arm slipping possessively over Harry's shoulders, he took a sip of his beer then asked, “What's up? Not that we mind the company, it's just odd.”Taking a bite of one of the chips Sirius put out, Bill said, “It's about your offer for renting us space in Grimmauld Place.” Sighing, he admitted, “We can find nothing suitable. Not to mention our applications have been rejected by the ones that are. Hell, our applications are getting rejected in the nasty ones! I don't want to move into the Leaky Cauldron, as that'll end up just expensive as hell. We don't want to take Aberforth up on his offer, either. It's a nice gesture, but I don't want my daughter around that pub. So, we thought to get with you to see what we can work out.” Stopping, he waited to see what Sirius had to say.Nodding, Sirius looked at Harry, who was glancing at him, then back to the two across the table. “We can easily work something out. In the last few years, we've basically gutted the place and redone everything. The second floor is really nice because of that. As I'm sure you know, the biggest two rooms are the ones with the connecting door. I wouldn't care if you seal that up to give yourselves more privacy. Harry and I will put up the same warding we have up on our floor so you have privacy and no noise gets out or bothers you. The only difference is I'll have an override I can use in case of an emergency. The rest—decorate how you want, just so it's reversible. You know what the wards are like. We have those completely locked down, as I’m sure you've heard, but can easily key you in. All we ask is that you don't key anyone else in. Just let them through as they need to come in. Everything else we'll work out as we go along.”Liking the sound of that, Charlie leaned over then whispered to his brother, “We need to take this, Bill. As long as we get everything in writing, we'll be fine. Whatever wards we want to put up, we can.”Nodding to let his brother know he heard, Bill said, “Any chance we can get some of this hammered out tonight and to take a look? We want to get settled somewhere as fast as we can manage it.”“Not a problem,” Sirius assured him with a nod. “I'll let everyone know we'll be gone a couple of hours then we'll go to the house. Once you're sure you can deal with it, we'll sit down and hammer out a contract we’ll all sign. I'm damned sure we can come up with something we're all happy with on all of it. That and we can make sure you know what you're dealing with when it comes to us. We won't be around when you are, for the most part, but we have one day a week we are and a day we take off every other week.”Actually hopeful they had something they could deal with, Charlie nodded. “We can do that. Because, seriously, we need to get out of the Burrow. You know what it's like there all the time. It's just something we aren't used to anymore.”“Trust us, we get that,” Harry chuckled, shaking his head. “It would make both of us completely mental.”“It's doing that to us,” Bill admitted with a grin, happy with this. It wouldn't be the same as having an apartment, but it might end up better in some ways, as they didn't have to worry about other things that came standard with renting. Besides, they got along well with Sirius and Harry.
Tossing the rental contract on the table after looking it over again, Harry then glanced at Sirius and said, “We're going to have to be more vigilant about keeping some bits hidden. That and remembering to get dressed before coming downstairs.”
“The dressed is the big thing,” Sirius admitted with a snort and chuckle. “Other parts—not worried about that. We've been cautious about making sure that top floor is warded since we moved back in. That's not a problem. I'll get the override password in the wards on the second floor tomorrow and we'll beef them up. Then Bill and Charlie can take it from there. I honestly don't give a shite what they do with that floor. Everything I wanted out of my old room and Regulus' is stored. The only thing I think we need to do is put a calendar up here in the kitchen to keep track of when the kids are coming over. Beyond that, I doubt we'll see each other much except in passing. They'll be coming in as we're going out. We'll be coming in when they're sleeping and won't even see them for breakfast except on odd days. Even our normal day off is one they work. So, I don't see this as a problem. Besides, those two aren't like the twins were and won't cause havoc. This is fine. And, it'll give Teddy someone about his age to play with when he's around when it comes to Bill's daughter. That will take the stress off of us entertaining him, at least until he gets older.”Taking all that in, Harry gave a slow nod. “Very true,” he admitted.“The only issue I see is you. We've done fine hiding parts of this. They may end up seeing more than most. I don't think it's a big deal, though.” Sirius told him, reaching over to give Harry's collar a tug.“They're used to me by now, so I don't figure it will matter,” Harry said with a little grin as he leaned against Sirius.“Exactly,” Sirius agreed, slipping an arm around him. “I'll have you get with Kreacher to let him know to expect them so he can deal accordingly. It won't be a problem, I'm sure.”“Shouldn't be because of Ron,” Harry nodded. “I'll say something to him.”“It's nothing to worry about,” Sirius told him once more. “Whatever might end up that way, we'll manage. Besides, I doubt it'll be forever. I'm sure they want to find their own place. It'll just take time, what with the baby boom after the war and all. Until then, we'll deal”“We will,” Harry told him.Giving Harry a nudge, he said, “We better get back to the club. I'm certain it's fine there, but we need to make sure. It's one of those things I feel better about if we're there.”“Very true as you never know when they'll need us,” Harry sighed, standing with a groan. Waiting for Sirius to stand as well, he then made his way towards the door. When they got to the kitchen door, Sirius pinned him against the wall and grabbed him by the hair on the back of his head and pulled it back. Gazing down into his eyes, he asked, “Who do you belong to, Harry?'“You. I belong to you,” Harry breathed, shivering slightly. This never got old and he still loved it, finding it arousing even now, just as much as the first time Sirius did it.“That's right; you're all mine,” Sirius grinned down at him. Though he still did this quite a lot to reinforce what was there, he now wanted to do it more often as they would soon have others in the house. That would keep Harry from being set off or annoyed too much. That he would have to stay alert for until Harry adjusted to people being in the house. Even normal ones they were only around for a short time, though they knew them well, tended to annoy him quickly. That he didn't want happening until Harry could adjust to it. This would help. Leaning his head down, he kissed him roughly then said, “Remember who you belong to and that I'm in charge. We'll do fine if you do. Use the signals if they get on your nerves. We'll go back to the normal for that. They'll get used to what they see with us soon and we’ll adjust to them being around. Nothing to worry about.”“Nothing to worry about,” Harry breathed, shivering slightly, adoring this.“Nothing to worry about,” Sirius told him again then let loose of his hair before leaning in to give him a kiss. After breaking it off, he rubbed his head gently and smiled. “Let's get back. We still need to talk a bit more about the fisting. We've not gotten very far with that, though we've tried. What's the problem?” He asked, putting a hand on Harry's back and guiding him out. This would be normal for them, so he went with it.“The fact that you have big damned hands and fingers, thus it hurts,” Harry chuckled, allowing himself to be guided along.“Not something I thought of,” Sirius admitted with a grin. “We got some more of those lubes in that help numb areas. Let's grab one of those tonight and see how it works. If it doesn't, we'll go about it another way.” When they stepped out of the front door, Sirius looped Harry's arm through his then Apparated them away.
Apparating into the place all of them had used to play Quidditch for so long, something just inside the wards so it would tell their mum they were home and safe, Bill and Charlie let out a soft sigh. It was good.
Hopping up and sitting on the low hanging branch, one that was only a bit higher than his waist and had all the bark worn off it from years of all of them using it for various things, Charlie looked at his brother and grinned. They had something. Perfect, just perfect. Watching his brother light his pipe, something he assumed their mum would figure they stopped out here for as she wouldn't allow him to smoke it in the house, he said, “We've got something and can be out of here in a few days.”Leaning against the trunk of the tree as he smoked, Bill nodded, relieved. “It's just what we need. The wards on that floor are already damned good. Which means we can move in without having to put up our own. What we want to tweak we can add after. And it's not going to take us redoing anything to get it set up. They've done a nice job of fixing it up. The only thing I see is for Victoire and a room for her. That's easy enough. It's what we need.” Groaning, he leaned more heavily against the tree then smiled, “We finally have something and can get out of here in days.”“Monday is freedom,” Charlie grinned. “Thankfully, that's their day off. We can handle the rest then be in there and ready in hours.” Lowering his voice, he added, “And the connecting rooms are perfect for us. Nothing will look off to anyone, as they are the biggest. We can set up a ward on the doors to the hallway and go from there. Just what we need without having to worry about for show. It's doubtful, if we do have anyone over, other than mum and Fleur the first time Victoire spends the night, that anyone else will ever go up there. Sirius and Harry—they don't seem to care and wouldn't think anything of it.”“With their hours, we don't have to worry about too much and will mostly be left alone. I'm sure, most days, it'll be like having our own place. It's certainly better, and nicer, than most of what we've seen. And the price is perfect for us. Not only is it lower than most, we just have to worry about our own food. Even with that, we can put plenty aside to save up to find something.” Putting out his pipe then tucking it in his pocket, Bill stepped in front of his brother. Putting a hand on the back of his head, he pulled him into a kiss.Wrapping one arm around his brother's waist, Charlie leaned into him as their lips were locked. When Bill broke it off, he smiled at him. “Soon we won't have to worry about getting caught,” he chuckled.“True,” Bill admitted. He and Charlie had played around a bit when they were teenagers, like many do, because of their closeness in age and sharing a room. After they were out of school it had progressed a bit more than that, though no one knew. Then they were separated for so long and pressed on. Since they were both back, it had picked up, only ending when he got together with Fleur. As that was over, it had picked up once more. As both of them found it satisfying, they went with it, deciding to stick together and press on. Since they were both well over the age of consent, knew what they were doing and making a conscious choice, they didn't have a problem with it, hence the reason to move in together. After all, they had a relationship unlike most couples.Looking up when they heard their mum shout their name, Charlie sighed, “We better get in before she comes hunting us up. She must need help with something.”“We better,” Bill admitted. Groaning, he stretched then headed that way, thankful that they would soon have somewhere they wouldn't be interrupted.
Putting the rental contract down on the table, Arthur gave a slow nod. It was late that night, just before bed, and he was alone with his sons. Molly had been pleased, of course, that they found somewhere safe and for a good price. He was as well, honestly. Though there were obviously issues about Harry, though Sirius seemed to have it under control, he was happy with this. Looking between the two, he asked, “You've seen it and its fine? We all know it was nasty.”
“They've completely remodeled since then. It's quite nice. We've all seen the downstairs, of course, because of various visits. The upstairs is just as nice. Probably more so, as those rooms haven't been used since they redid them. You know how big those floors are, dad. We've got more room than we would in an apartment when it comes to that. All we'll be doing is sharing space downstairs. With the schedule Harry and Sirius keep, we'll probably only see each other in passing, nothing more, other than their days off.” Bill told him. “It's the best we can find and is actually far better than most of what we've seen. The rent is perfect for us. I don't see where we'll have a problem.”“No offense, but we need to get out of here. The constant traffic and noise is making us mental,” Charlie grinned, shaking his head. “We won't talk about how hard it is sharing that small room after having bigger places.”Chuckling slightly, Arthur nodded. “Something I can understand.” Sobering up, he asked, “You're not going to have a problem sharing with Sirius and Harry? I know it won't be for long on most days, if you see each other at all, but you know how that goes.”“I think we'll do fine,” Bill assured him. “We've laid out as much as we could in that agreement to make sure we respect each other's spaces. Sirius made it clear we can't get onto the top floor and he has only an override to get into our space that will be used for emergencies. That's easily understandable that he wants it. The rest—we'll be left alone. He just doesn’t want a ton of company over there. That we get, honestly. He and Harry are used to the quiet, not to mention their odd hours. I think we'll manage just fine.”“Though your mother and I like having you both home, I'm glad you found somewhere good. Andromeda says it's fine over there with plenty of room for Teddy to play. Sirius and Harry even have various items set up in the backyard for him when he visits, so Victoire should have fun as well. This way, she can have her own room, too. That's better than you would get with most places.”“Part of what we thought of as well,” Charlie nodded. “It's not perfect, as we don't have it to ourselves, but it's a start. This will allow us to save money and find something better. That we need. The rent for most was just outrageous, even if they were disgusting.”“Yes, it's rather pricey anymore,” Arthur sighed. Smiling, he said, “This is good. It’s what you need, I think, and will work out well. We know you're in a good, safe place and you have all you need. Thankfully, Harry and Sirius offered.”“We are as well,” Bill told him, leaning back. “We would still be looking if they didn't.”“Moving day is Monday then?” Arthur asked, planning to make sure most were out of the house so he and Molly could help.“Monday,” Charlie grinned, looking forward to this.
