After Harry left Remus he made his way to McGonagall's office intent on gathering everything that he would get need to be prepared for when the school year started. Taking a deep breath he knocked on the door. He heard the professor on the other side of the door telling him to enter.
As he slid in the room he saw her sitting behind her desk going over her notes for the upcoming year. She glanced up as the door closed, "Mr. Potter. What brings you to my office?" She smiled at him, setting her papers off to the side so she could give Harry her sole attention.
Harry smiled as he passed her the letter from the Ministry of Magic, detailing his scores, "I believe that I will be requiring a list of supplies that will be necessary for the up and coming year." He grinned larger as he saw the woman's eyebrows disappear towards her hairline.
She looked down at the paper, unable to form words as her mouth popped open and closed. Taking a deep breath to steady herself, "Harry, how...How did you-" She stopped taking a calming breath, "I see that you were able to pass the exams with flying colors. Not only transfiguration but your others as well."
Harry nodded and smiled looking out the window, "Yes Ma'am." Clearing his throat he turned his attention back to her, "I am going to Diagon Alley come morning. I would greatly appreciate the list before I have to go."
Professor McGonagall nodded as she conjured a fresh piece of parchment and with a muttered word she sent a quill to work writing the list of supplies that Harry would need for the coming year, "Most of the equipment will be taken care of here at the school. Unfortunately we do not have access to any of the books, unless they are out of my personal collection." She gave the young man a smile, "I hope you understand that we will be using a multitude of books for your training." She glanced over at the quill that had just finished scratching over the parchment. She double checked everything before handing it over to him, "This is everything that you will need until next year, then at that point, we will see how far you have progressed. We will discuss further books and equipment at that time."
Harry nodded and took the parchment from her and looked it over. He smiled reading it over, "Twenty three books?" He nodded giving a longer look over the list, "Professor, half of these books are nearly impossible to find. I have looked for the past year to find them, but I haven't been able to yet."
The woman nodded, "I will send out inquiries for them and see what we can do about finding them." She looked over her class notes and sighed softly, "Now, was there anything else that I could help you with?"
Harry stood and shook his head, rolling his parchment up before placing it in his pocket. He accioed the letter from her desk, "Was there anything that you needed from Diagon Alley Professor?"
She smiled and shook her head and sent him on his way.
Harry nodded and left the transfiguration professor making his way to the dungeons. It was drawing ever closer to dinner time. He didn't realize that he had spent quite longer with both Remus and Professor McGonagall than he had anticipated.
He wanted to reach the potions master's chambers before the man had left for dinner. Acting quickly he began to sprint down the hall, only to shift to his animagus form and moving faster, jumping down the stairs.
He collided with the wall as he made a sharp turn, whimpering at the impact. Shaking his furry head he carried on running towards Snape's office.
Pausing outside the door and panting trying to calm himself for a moment before he changed back to his human form. He stood and brushed the dirt from his robes before raising a fist, rapping his knuckles against the heavy oak door.
Snape was cataloging his potion ingredients, making absolutely sure that he had everything that would be needed for the coming year. He double checked everything, ensuring that even if the students should melt or blow up their cauldrons, he would have spares ready. Shaking his head, praying that this new year he wouldn't get a person as abominable as Longbottom. So far in the past twenty years, Neville Longbottom seemed to be by far the worst person to enter the potions lab that he ever had the misfortune of teaching.
He was just double checking the repairs on a cauldron when he heard the knocking on the door. Cursing under his breath he made his way to the door, setting his clipboard on a desk before he opened the door, "Potter. To what do I owe the pleasure?"
Harry took a deep breath, "I came as to inquire as to the supplies I will be needing to start my apprenticeship.
Snape sneered at him, "What makes you think that you have the necessary grades for such a thing?"
Harry smiled softly, "Perhaps you think me presumptuous to request such a thing. Maybe I am thinking that I do have the required grade for your royal snarkiness." Harry entered the classroom taking a deep breath before he turned to face Snape. Staring into the onyx orbs, "If you took the time to even ask instead of assuming we would not be having this argument, or did you think that you are too important and too self-serving that even I would never gain your approval?" He thrust the letter with his results into Snape's chest, "There are the bloody results. I figure that I did better than expected."
Harry strode to the other side of the room trying to calm himself before his magic overpowered the room and destroyed both the room and everyone in the room. He closed his eyes as he pinched the bridge of his nose, "Damn it all, just read the results and give me a list of what you require for the apprenticeship."
Snape sneered at the young man, his anger rising as he looked at the letter he was now clutching to his chest, "How did you manage to get your scores so quickly?"
Harry turned back to Snape, "The term is starting in two days. What would you have me do, sit around on my arse doing nothing?" He glared hard at the professor, "I requested an expedient delivery of the letter to ensure that I would have the results to make sure that I would be able to have everything ready for the start of the term."
Snape took a moment to look over the results as he made his way over to his desk, taking a seat as his eyes widened minimally, "Seven NEWTs and two of them in classes that you never took. How is that even possible? Who taught you?"
Harry ran a hand through his hair and sighed, "No one taught me. Where do you think I was going when you caught me all those times on the seventh floor? What room is on the seventh floor that could aid me in learning so I would pass the classes as well as I have?"
Snape took a deep breath as he looked up at the young man, "Are you telling me that you took it upon yourself to learn two of the hardest subjects? Is that what you are telling me you insolent boy?"
Harry nodded, "That is exactly what I am telling you Severus Snape." He sat down on one of the stools in the room, "Now what is it that I am going to need to study under your apprenticeship?"
Snape glared at the young man knowing that it was going to take a lot longer to figure out everything that he was capable of. He opened a drawer in his desk, pulling out a sheet of parchment he started to copy everything that the young man would need to study the craft, "I trust that you have the correct cauldrons, knives, safety equipment, stirring rods, and the basics of a proper lab."
Harry nodded, "I need to replace my gloves and three of my stirring rods. You saw my ingredients, but they could use a restocking. Remus and I are heading to Diagon Alley tomorrow to gather supplies and the books that I would need."
Snape nodded and continued writing everything that Harry would need, "I would prefer it if you did not wear a garish robe when you come for your lessons."
Harry nodded, "So no trying to look like Professor Dumbledore? I will endeavor to never dress like him while I still draw breath."
Snape nodded and held out the parchment towards Harry, "Here is a list of everything that you should need, provided you don't already have it. Now leave so I can finish before the miserable brats appear."
Harry took the parchment and his letter as he left the room. Stretching he looked over the parchment nodding to some of the items that he had, and others that he still had to get.
He made his way back up to his room and smiled, 'Finally. I get the chance.' He wandered through the halls, before falling hard as he crashed into a hard body, "Bugger. Why the hell do I continually end up on my arse?" He looked up and saw that he crashed into Blaise, yet again. He growled softly, "Why is it always you that I crash into?"
Blaise held out his hand to help Harry up off the floor, "I do apologize for running into you this way. Perhaps we are just instruments of Fate, and are meant to be forever crashing into one another." He smiled as he pulled Harry to his feet.
Harry's face darkened at the mention of Fate, "I refuse to be an instrument of Fate anymore. It has all but destroyed my life already. If you wish to follow blindly what they want." He nodded to Blaise before he left the other man behind.
As Harry neared his room, everything that happened today, 'Just what was Blaise talking about? Instruments of Fate? Why would I ever want to be one of their tools again, when I am already a tool in the war?' He shook his head as he opened the door to his rooms. He took a deep breath, calming himself.
He moved over to his desk, grabbing a fresh piece of parchment and his quill. Taking the two papers from his pockets, copying them both onto one sheet, making sure that he wouldn't have to carry both pieces of paper and taking the chance that he would loose one of the papers.
Setting the parchment aside he left his desk to take a shower. He stood under the relaxing spray as his mind began to wander over the events of the last several days. He shook his head to clear it as he finished his shower, grabbing a fluffy towel off the rack to dry himself off. He wrapped the towel around his waist as he left the bathroom, making his way over to his trunk. He sifted through the collection of clothing that was left making sure to pick out some of the more normal clothes for himself to wear tomorrow.
He wanted to look sharp for Remus's mate, but he also didn't want to appear to well dressed as to bring more attention to himself. Grabbing a fresh pair of boxers he slipped them on, chuckling to himself as he noticed that on the backside of them was the Union Jack.
He knew that it was Dumbledore that had picked out his clothing. Even though he was on the outs with the old man he couldn't help but chuckle at the thought of wearing the British flag over his arse. Wiping a tear from his eye, he pulled the rest of his clothes out for the morning. He nodded at the dark green shirt and a pair of black trousers, placing them on top of the trunk before he climbed into bed and snuggling himself down under the covers as he fell asleep.
Author's Note:Delia: First I would like to thank you as my ever faithful reviewer. I will continue with my story even if you are the only person reading it yourself. As for Blaise, all I will say is read and more will develop, but it may just be a crush on both of their parts or it may lead to something bigger. I just haven't decided on that yet. Like you I enjoy a good Snarry, but I also feel that they are too complex for me to attempt on my first try. While writing this story, I was attacked by an evil plot bunny. I will tell you now that I am focusing most of my attention on this story instead of the evil plot bunny. As for a Severus/Remus pairing, it is a decidely good pairing just like a Severus/Harry, but have no fear, the two will not be a pairing.
